Sirius Black was sitting on the ground with his back against an old oak tree. He looked up when he heard someone’s boots crushing the leaves that had fallen.
“I have been looking all over for you,” James whispered as he sat down next to Sirius.
“I don’t know why you bothered,” Sirius replied in a pained voice.
James sighed and stared at the night sky. A still silence stung the air for several minutes. Finally, James spoke.
“Sirius, I’m sorry for what I said. I should never have brought any of that up.”
“You were feeling it, weren’t you?”
“Well…yes. But I-“
“Then you should have said it.”
James furiously faced his lover. “Damn it, Sirius, I should not have said it. Not to you. Notr. r. Even if I was feeling it…well, that doesn’t make any difference at all.”
Sirius pulled his knees up to his chest and continued to cast his eyes to the stars. “The fact that you said it makes all the difference in the world, James.”
James leaned over closer to Sirius and placed his hand on Sirius’ face. “Gods, Sirius, I love you so bloody much.”
Sirius roughly removed James’ hand from his face and stood up. “Nothing else in your life will cause you more pain than loving me,” he said quietly.
James watched as Sirius slowly walked across the lawn, his black boots rustling the leaves as he went.
