Chapter 8: Complementary Wizardry

~o0o~

Slowly, Harry made his way back to Hogwarts. A million thoughts were racing through his mind, a million possibilities that led again to other choices. But his foremost thought was what the hell just happened in the cave. He had not been lying to Lucius when he said the afternoon was delightful. And then, it had happened. A blue surge of energy between them. Not unpleasant or painful. Just... there.

Lucius had been terrified, though. Another thing that had surprised Harry. Malfoy\'s were never afraid. Let alone terrified. But he had no other word for what he had seen in Lucius\' eyes as the man had backed away from him. It had terrified him enough to send Harry away.

It had started to drizzle. The fine spray of water reflected Harry\'s mood perfectly. He feared that Lucius might not want to see him again. Somehow, this made him sad. He really had enjoyed the company of someone who didn\'t treat him with total abandon and awe like his schoolmates. Even his friends were not completely immune to his fame some times. But Lucius... he had treated him like an adult. Like an equal.

Harry started to jog when the rain got heavier. But he still ended up soaking wet in the entrance hall of Hogwarts. As fast as possible, he made his way up to the Gryffindor tower. He ignored the looks some students gave him as he passed them, wanting nothing more than to get out of his wet clothes. Even the Fat Lady gave him a disapproving look, muttering something about \'catching death\', but still letting him pass. He refused to acknowledge the worried glances from his house mates and climbed the stairs to the dormitories. He hastily peeled of his robes, jumper and jeans, sighing as he realised that his boxer briefs were also soaked. He divested himself of those, too, starting at a whistle from behind.

\"If I only knew, Harry,\" Seamus drawled.

Harry grinned. \"Thanks Merlin, you didn\'t.\"

The Irish boy put his hand over his heart. \"You hurt my feelings.\" He fell on his bed, propping his face on his hand. \"So, tell me. Who\'s this mysterious wizard you were meeting today?\"

Harry put on fresh boxers and black slacks, finally turning around to face Seamus. \"I won\'t tell you, Seamus.\"

\"Why not? I mean, it\'s not like you\'re meeting with some Death Eater or something.\"

Harry suppressed a flinch. But after all, Lucius was no Death Eater anymore. \"No, I\'m not meeting with some Death Eater. But I\'ve prom to to keep it secret.\"

\"Is he your lover?\"

\"No, he\'s not. I think I\'ve told you that already.\"

\"Yeah, yeah.\" Seamus waved his free hand impatiently. \"Why all this secrecy? I mean, if he\'s not your lover... or a Death Eater...\"

\"I promised. That\'s all you get out of me.\" Harry smirked. \"But you\'ll be the first to know if he becomes my lover.\"

\"Is he attractive?\"

\"Yes,\" Harry answered, appalled by his own confession. But it was true, though. Lucius was attractive. Beautiful even. \"I\'m so not going there, Seamus.\"

He grinned. \"Pity.\"

Harry finished dressing. \"Let\'s go to dinner, \'k?\"

\"\'k.\"

They went down to the Common Room to pick up the others. Harry touched Hermione lightly on the shoulder to gain her attention. \"Can I tto yto you for a minute?\"

\"Sure.\"

The others turned around, looking expectantly at Harry and Hermione. But Harry motioned tto gto go on. \"This is private,\" he said with a grin, almost laughing at Ron\'s pout. \"We\'ll join you in a minute or two.\" He waited until the portrait had swung close again.

\"What is it, Harry?\"

\"Can we go to the library after dinner? There\'s something I have to ask you.\"

\"\'k. But why can\'t the others come, too?\"

He smirked. \"\'Cause it\'s private. You\'ll see why I won\'t tell them, especially Ron.\"

Her eyes lightened up. \"Has this something to do with the wizard you were meeting today?\"

\"Yes,\" he admitted. \"After dinner?\"

She nodded. \"After dinner.\"

~o0o~

Hermione had to search the library for Harry. He had chosen a secluded table in the far corner of the room, away from prying eyes and ears. He looked up, smiling at her.

\"Hey.\"

\"Hey, Harry.\" She sat down, looking expectantly at him. \"So, what is it you want to talk about?\"

He stared at her for a moment. A sudden grin appeared on his face. \"You know, I feel like seeing a shrink.\"

She leaned back. \"Honestly? I feel like one.\"

They laughed. \"Gods... I don\'t know where to begin...\"

\"What about the beginning?\"

An almost evil smirk appeared on his face. \"The universe began with a word, you know?\" he said, quoting something Lucius had written in one of his letters. He snickered when she glared at him. \"Okay, okay. The beginning.\" He took a deep breath. \"I don\'t need to remind you that this is between ynd mnd me?\" At her nod, he continued. \"Remember the article in the Daily Prophet? About how Lucius Malfoy killed his wife and Bellatrix Lestrange?\"

She visibly shivered. \"Yes. The pictures were to horrid to forget.\"

\"Well. I was there.\"

She frowned. \"What do you mean?\"

\"I was there when Narcissa Malfoy was killed. And it sure as hell was not Lucius. It was MacNair.\"

\"What?\" she exclaimed. \"How do you know?\"

\"I dreamt it, Hermione. I wasn\'t sure if is jus just another nightmare or a real vision. But then, the Daily Prophet had this ludicrous story about Lucius killing his own wife published.\"

Hermione\'s frown deepened. Harry could practically see the wheels turning in her restless mind, trying to put the pieces of a puzzle together that even hadn\'t all pieces revealed, yet. \"It makes sense,\" she finally said. \"He may be cruel and evil and all... But Malfoys always protect their family. Still this doesn\'t explain why he killed Lestrange.\"

\"Personal reasons.\"

\"Harry... Don\'t tell me what I know you\'re going to tell me,\" she whispered. \"You\'ve been meeting Lucius Malfoy today, haven\'t you?\" He nodded. \"Are you out of your mind, Harry? This man...\"

\"Don\'t \'Mione,\" he said quietly, averting her eyes \"I know who he is and what he is.\"

\"Then why, Harry?\"

He sighed. \"I don\'t know. When the article was published I just felt like he should know that there\'s someone who knew he didn\'t do it. Someone other than Voldemort and his Death Eaters. The letters he sent back were more than different from what I expected them to be. He even asked me to protect Draco. I guess that\'s why Draco\'s taking the same classes. Well, Lucius asked me to meet him. And I agreed. Yes, yes,\" he said when Hermione started to answer, \"I know that it was foolish and everything.\"

Hermione snorted. \"Indeed.\"

\"He\'s nothing like I remember him. He seems tired. Grounded.\"

\"Broken?\"

\"No, I won\'t go this far. He lacks the coldness and aloofness, but he\'s not broken. Quite on the contrary. He seeks revenge.\"

\"Harry... Why are you telling me all this? Why now? You could have told me all the time.\"

Harry winced at the clear hurt in her voice. \"I\'m sorry \'Mione. I have to admit that I still wouldn\'t have told you if what happened today hadn\'t happened in the first place.\"

\"You\'re scaring me, Harry,\" she whispered. \"What has he done to you?\"

\"Nothing. Well, nothing he intended to, I suppose, \'cause he\'s even more frightened of it than I am.\"

\"Harry...\"

\"When we said our Good Bye\'s we shook hands. I touched him and a blue surge of energy went through both of us.\"

Hermione squeaked, jumping up, clamping a hand over her mouth. Harry snorted. \"I guess you know what it means, then.\"

She sat down again, shaking, pale like death. \"Do you have any idea what this means? No, of course not. You wouldn\'t have come to me if you did.\"

\"I\'m sorry.\"

She held up her hand, motioning him to be silent. \"I understand, Harry.\" She smiled. \"And I can definitely see why you don\'t want Ron to know. He\'d have your head for this.\"

Harry blushed. \"So, what is the meaning of all this? What was this surge? And why\'s Lucius terrified of it?\"

She quirked an eye-brow. \"He\'s terrified? Well, that\'s unexpected.\"

\"He practically threw me out, backing away from me. He said something about stopping and preventing it, whatever *that* means.\"

She shook her head. \"He cannot prevent it. If he tries the weaker one of you two will die.\"

\"You\'re not being helpful.\"

She sighed. \"I really don\'t know if I should feel happy or sorry about this, Harry. If it was someone else than Malfoy...\"

\"\'Mione, spill it, whatever it is.\"

\"Lucius Malfoy is your complement. The one wizard that completes, complements and counters you in every aspect of life.\ Har Harry paled. \"What... what do you mean?\"

\"Every witch or wizard has a magical complement. It\'s not very common, though, that the wizards or witches in question complete the bond. You can spend half of your life in company of your complement without knowing it. You have to make skin-on-skin contact to recognise each other.\"

\"That\'s why we didn\'t know before. On the few occasions he touched me before he always wore gloves.\"

Hermione nodded. \"There are two cases of complementary wizardry. Either you are two individual entities or you are one entity in two bodies. Either way - if you complete the bond the resulting energy is the most powerful magic known to our kind.\"

\"Then why doesn\'t he want to complete the bond?\"

\"I don\'t know. I would\'ve expected him to snap at the chance. He could become the most powerful wizard next to you. He could achieve everything he ever wanted.\"

\"And I couldn\'t prevent it,\" Harry concluded.

\"No, you couldn\'t. He could absorb all magical energy you have. And that would be a lot of energy, Harry. He could rule the wizarding world and nobody would be able to stop him.\"

Harry was dumbfounded. Lucius had had the one opportunity to obtain every possible goal he ever had - including the revenge he so desperately sought; he\'d let it pass. \"Suggestions?\"

She shrugged. \"Talk to Dumbledore?\"

Harry tensed. He so didn\'t want to talk to Dumbledore about this. He didn\'t want the Aurors or any Order members to find Lucius. Still, he suspected that Dumbledore already knew what was going on. He always knew. \"I think he already knows. Well, part of it. I received a note from him the day I came to the Burrow. His favourite question. Is there anything you\'d like to tell me, Harry.\"

\"Do you want to bond with Lucius?\" Hermione asked softly.

Did he? What would it be like to have a complement? \"I don\'t know. What would it be like to have a complement?\"

\"Well, basically you will be stronger and more powerful. I have to admit I only know the basics because all the books on the subject are in the Restricted Section. I believe you will feel complete. In every aspect.\"

A sudden thought crossed Harry\'s mind. \"\'Mione,\" he said, slightly panicked. \"How\'s the bond created? Or do I so not want to know that?\"

She snickered. \"You\'re a dog, Harry. But you\'re train of thought is right. Sex is a way to complete the bond. The books I read only mentioned massive skin-on-skin contact. Preferably naked.\"

Harry groaned. \"Thanks, \'Mione. I so didn\'t need the image of a naked Lucius Malfoy in my head.\"

She punched him lightly, giggling. \"Harry!\"

~o0o~

They walked back to the Gryffindor Tower. They didn\'t talk. There was no need to. Hermione had promised that she wouldn\'t tell Ron or the others about Harry\'s \'friendship\' with Lucius. She also had managed to reassure him that she wouldn\'t desert him just because of his connection to a former Death Eater and muggle hater, though she again had voiced her concern. Lucius was still a dark wizard after all.

They had climbed the last staircase to the hall that led to the portrait when Professor McGonagall stepped in front of them, a serious and worried look on her face. \"Mr Potter. Please come with me.\"

Harry gulped. It could only mean that Dumbledore indeed knew. Hermione gave him a supportive squeeze before she walked down the hall to disappear in the Common Room.

Harry followed his Head of House. A very sour feeling filled his stomach with every step nearer to the Headmaster\'s office. McGonagall said the password before she gave him a stern look. \"Good luck, Mr Potter.\"

He nodded. This could only mean that Dumbledore was more than upset. A thousand things raced through his mind on his way up to the office, all of them unpleasant and resulting in expulsion from Hogwarts.

The office was empty except for Fawkes. Harry walked to the perch, carefully stroking the phoenix.

\"Good evening, Harry.\" Harry turned around, looking into the worried face of Dumbledore. \"Please, have a seat.\"

Harry sat down. He watched the Headmaster preparing two cups of tea before he took a seat in front of Harry. \"I assume you know why you\'re here?\" Harry nodded, not meeting Dumbledore\'s gaze. \"Don\'t worry, my boy. I won\'t expel you.\" He snickered when Harry looked up sharply. \"\'s \'s what youughtught I\'d do, didn\'t you?\"

\"Yes. And I\'d like to know why you don\'t do it.\"

The Headmaster leaned back, his eyes twinkling. \"Well, it\'s a very rare occasion that a wizard finds his complement. Even if the complement is Lucius Malfoy.\"

\"You knew I was meeting him today, didn\'t you?\"

\"Of course. I know about the vision you had, about the letters you sent and about the meeting you had.\"

\"And yet you don\'t expel me?\"

\"Why should I expel you for following your instincts, Harry?\"

\"Because I can\'t trust them anymore,\" Harry whispered.

\"Ah. But you do trust Lucius, don\'t you?\" Harry shrugged. \"You met him today. Despite all reservations and apprehensions.\"

Harry worried his lower lip. \"Professor Dumbledore, why am I here? If you don\'t want to expel me what did you want to talk to me about?\"

\"Straight to the point, then.\" If possible, the twinkle in his eyes intensified. \"There aree the things I like to discuss with you, Harry. First of all,\" he handed him a role of parchment, \"I\'d like you to give this to Lucius the next time you see him. In two weeks, I guess?\" Harry nodded. Dumbledore gave him another piece of parchment. \"This is a permission for you and Mrs Granger to do some research in the Restricted Section.\"

\"You say this as if Lucius and I were already bonded.\"

A smile quirked the elder wizard\'s lips. \"Just... foreboding, Harry. Then, I\'d like you to take Draco with you to Hogsmeade.\"

Harry snorted. \"As if Malfoy\'d follow me.\"

\"He\'ll be ordered to do so by Severus and me. The boy is on the verge of falling apart. But I can\'t let him go to his father alone.\"

\"Yes, Sir. Is there anything else?\"

\"No. Unless there\'s something you like to tell me?\"

Harry grinned. He\'d knew this would come eventually. \"No, Sir. There\'s nothing. Well, nothing you don\'t already know.\"

\"Then I guess you should return to your dormitory.\"

\"Yes.\" Harry stood up. \"Good night, Professor.\"

\d nid night, Harry.\"

~o0o~

He is floating. Swimming on a wave of passion and lust. Slowly falling into everlasting desire. Lips feasting on his tanned skin. Eliciting moans and sighs from his throat. Yet, those sinful lips don\'t travel lower, neglecting the throbbing erection between his legs. \"Please,\" he moans, yet he knows not what he\'s pleading for. Nimble fingers make short work of his pyjama bottoms, throwing them onto the floor, leaving him naked and shiveriith ith desire under the scrutinising gaze of silver eyes. He pulls the man down for a bruising kiss, licking and biting and sucking the clever tongue. An experienced hand closes around his cock, stealing his breath away. He arches into the touch, despite the other hand that\'s holding him down. He parts his thighs, lets his lover fall between them, feeling the answering erection against his skin. \"Lucius... please...\"

Harry woke with a scream. \"No!\" He fell back into his bed, his hard cock leaking evidence of his dream. \"Gods, no...\"
