Chapter 13

“I must admit, you nearly had us all fooled. Drop the charade. We know you’re not Lord Voldemort.” Dumbledore stated with confidence the next day when the group had gathered in the privacy of his office.

The “dark lord” sighed, his voice dropping into a whiny pitch. “We’ll have to wait for the polymorph potion to wear off.”

Nearly everyone in the room stared at the man in wonder. “But, Dumbledore, how did you know it wasn’t really Voldemort?” Ron asked in surprise, wincing at his own boldness by saying the dark lord’s name.

“That’s easy, Mr. Weasley. Tom would not act in such a manner. It’s out of character for him. I could tell almost immediately that it was, in fact, Peter Pettigrew.”

His eyes grew wider, looking at his once-rat, now masquerading as someone so incredibly evil. “Wait…So, is Lane his daughter then?”

The imposter shook his head as Lane looked at him in disbelief. “He couldn’t risk coming himself, so I was sent in disguise.”

Dumbledore nodded. “I see.”

Lane’s eyebrows went up. “Wait, so all of you are telling me that this uber evil wizard is my dad. Lord Voldemort.” Everyone but Dumbledore and Harry winced at the name. “Isn’t he that loon that went around killing people way back?”

“Around the time all of you were born? Yes.” Professor McGonagall stated.

Harry turned towards Lane. “It makes perfect sense! That’s why you never saw your father when you were young and thought he was dead…Well, everyone thought he was pretty much dead…”

She rolled her eyes, sighing. “So, he’s out to kill you. Yay. I’m glad you guys get along so well.” She rubbed her neck, the bruises there were dark purple spreading into a light green-yellow around the edges. “One big happy family, huh?”

Harry looked sympathetic, never having known his own parents. "Sorry your dad and I keep trying to kill each other."

Lane sighed, rolling her eyes once more. "That's not funny, Harry. Besides, not much you can really do about it now."

Draco stood towards the back of the room, watching the events unfold. He felt so helpless, so useless. The person that he loved most was hurt by those closest to him.

Lane stomped her foot. “Let’s get this over with. I’m tired of all this squabbling.” She shuddered as Lucius and Professor Snape were being led out by some Ministry officials, who had their wands at the ready. Lucius smirked, giving her a little wave.

Ron growled, staring at the two. “That bastard. I still can’t believe it.”

Hermione patted his shoulder. “Calm down Ron.”

Pettigrew muttered something under his breath, narrowing his eyes at the Potter trio. “Then don’t dawdle. Come with me, young miss.” The rat-like man started walking towards the great double doors that led out of Hogwarts, everyone wondering if he should be stopped, but Dumbledore decided to let them go.

Draco stood, watching Pettigrew walk away, Lane about to follow. He was nearly in tears. “Wait! Lane, I-.”

“Come with me.”

He looked up, a tear slipping out of his eye. “What?”

She turned, walking up to Draco and taking his hand in both of hers. “Draco. Please, come with me.”
