The Sexual Education of Remus J. Lupin
Chapter 9
Lesson Nine: Pride Brings Prejudice
______________________________________________________________________
Compared to the action packed first half of the train ride to Hogwarts, the rest of the trip passed by in a rather uneventful fashion. Remus and Sirius were joined by Peter, James, and Lily after a short while, none of which seemed to suspect anything naughty had went down on those seats. Well, Sirius thought that James had probably suspected something, but thankfully, the dark haired boy kept quiet. James and Sirius had sat down to play a game of exploding snap, and before anyone really realized it, they had arrived at the Hogwarts Grounds.
The Welcoming feast passed by in an equally uneventful fashion. Unless the gaggle of girls attempting to hug Sirius all at once counted for an event, but Sirius just shrugged them all off and found his normal seat between Remus and Peter. See? Sirius wasn't a terrible boyfriend. All the first years were sorted, and everyone spent the rest of the evening soaking in the glory that was Hogwarts. Sirius had missed this school, and secretly, he had missed some of his lessons too. But he wouldn't dare admit that to anyone else, let alone his adorable bookworm of a boyfriend Remus Lupin.
As beginning weeks at Hogwarts went, the first two weeks of their school year went off without too much of a hitch. James was quidditch captain, Sirius was now the star Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team for three years in a row, and the dark haired boy somehow managed to scrape by in those two weeks with only three detentions. It was a record, that was. The only problem seemed to be that somehow, a nasty little rumor about Sirius Black began to circulate through the halls of Hogwarts. That didn't surprise the pureblood all that much, to be honest, there were countless rumors going around about the boy, one of which included a brilliant story where Sirius took on a full grown mountain troll with his bare hands over the summer. In fact, Sirius wasn't even sure he really cared about what that new rumor about him involved. That was, until someone finally had the guts to come up to him and ask him about it.
“S..Sirius Black!” Came the voice of a very frightened third year girl from behind Sirius, as he and Remus were about to enter the Great Hall for dinner. The male rolled his eyes, but turned to look at the shy, bespectacled girl. “Oi, that's me.” He flashed her a smile right after, attempting to calm her nerves. But all that did was manage to send the girl into another fit of near paralyzing nerves. “Out with it, come on, what'd you want?” Sirius asked the girl again. Finally, once the girl had mustered up enough courage to speak, and after she had shot fearful looks at the group of even more frightened and excited third year girls, she said “A..Are..you...g..g...gay..?” Her voice sounded like a stutter. The dark haired boy gaped at her. “Huh?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at her. Surely she hadn't asked him that question. “Are...y..you...gay..?” She asked again, her voice sounding a bit stronger, though she still looked as if she had just seen some evil dark wizard or something.
Sirius couldn't believe his ears. Did this little girl really think he, the great Sirius Black, was gay? He shot a quick glance at Remus before laughing loudly. “Don't be stupid. Of course I'm not. Where'd you hear that from?” The girl shook her head quickly, simply refusing to give up her source of information. It dawned on him then that this must have been that rumor everyone had heard about. The new Sirius Black rumor. The dark haired boy's stomach dropped, completely, until he was sure it was now at his feet. Now everyone in the school thought that the resident Casanova was really just a pouf. That was it, he had to do something about this. He just..well he had to, there wasn't any other option.
Turning quickly on his heel, he pushed open the doors to the Great Hall, made his way to his normal seat, slammed his rucksack down on the bench, and climbed up, first onto the bench, and then onto the table. “OI!” He yelled, the chatter in the great hall silencing immediately. Panicking only slightly, the dark eyes gazed over the room, looking from the Slytherin table, up and down the Hufflepuff table, scanning over the Ravenclaw table, and then up and down his own Gryffindor table. It was then, nearing the front of the table, by the staff's table, Sirius saw her. The girl he had been looking for. Well, he hadn't been looking for her, technically, but she would do. All he needed was some stunningly beautiful girl that would catch everyone's attention. “YOU, DOWN AT THE END.” His voice carried through the silent Great Hall, and he threw his hand out to point straight at the girl. She had long, silky black hair, bright blue eyes, and a killer figure, from what he could see, at least.
Whispers were heard throughout the entire Great Hall as Sirius began to walk down the table, straight towards that girl. Her eyes were wide, looking as if she wasn't quite sure that he was speaking to her. Once he reached her, he kneeled down, until he was in a sort of crouching position. The hall was still silent, though several “OOOOO~”'s and “AAAAHHH~”'s could be heard. “Hi. I'm Sirius Black.” He said to her, flashing her that smile that he knew would make her weak. It worked, because the girl turned a brilliant shade of pink in the face. “I..I know..who you are..” She said, her face turning pinker. “I..I'm Re..Rebecca Turn...Turnland..” She continued, seeming as though she was having a hard time remembering her own name. -c-
“Pleasure to meet you Rebecca. Listen, there's a Hogsmeade Trip this weekend, and I was wondering if you wanted to go with me.” He flashed her another one of those prize winning smiles. If her face could have turned any pinker at that moment, she'd have been the color of a radish. “Y...YES!” She exclaimed excitedly. With that Sirius extended his hand, pulled the girl up onto the table with him, wrapped an arm around her waist, and kissed her full on the mouth. She had her arms around his neck, and they kissed right there on the table, in front of the entire school, to a chorus of sad wails from hundreds of girls, and a ton of wolf whistles from the guys. In the back of his mind, Sirius thought of Remus, and how bad this was going to turn out for them. But that..it just didn't matter now. He had a reputation to take care of. He was The Casanova. He couldn't be pegged that way, he couldn't lose that reputation. He just couldn't.
Remus had sensed trouble the minute he’d heard what that girl had asked Sirius out in the hall. He knew there were various random rumors going around about his boyfriend, but most of them were simply ridiculous stories about him and some troll. Honestly, Remus wouldn’t have been surprised if Sirius started those himself just for fun. However, this question sparked something in both himself, and Sirius. He knew that Sirius was going to deny his sexuality, they had already talked about this before now.
What Remus hadn’t been expecting was the way Sirius decided to go about ‘repairing’ his reputation in the Great Hall. He jumped slightly when Sirius called out to the girl, and then watched, his eyes going wide as Sirius continued to walk down the table, ask her out, and then kiss her. Sirius Black, his boyfriend, the one that Remus was in love with, and who supposedly loved him back, was kissing a girl, right there, in front of everyone.
Remus felt as if he didn’t even have a heart anymore, at the moment. Watching Sirius kiss another girl, after everything they’d gone through over the Summer and what not. It was terrible. He felt betrayed, hurt, angry, sad, and worst of all, humiliated. He knew that he had no reason to be humiliated, as James and Lily were the only ones who even knew about their relationship, but he just couldn’t shake the feeling that everyone in the hall was pointing and laughing at him, taunting him for ever believing that he could tame Sirius Black.
He watched as the two continued to kiss, it seemed to last a life time, and then there was the sound of breaking glass. Remus had been gripping his goblet so tightly in his hand that it had exploded, shards of glass now sticking into his hand at odd angles, blood dripping down all over the table.
He was feeling so many things at once that the pain didn’t even register. He stood up immediately, unable to watch his boyfriend any longer, and stormed out of the Great Hall. Of course, the only people who even noticed him leaving were James and Lily. They had both watched Sirius as well, with expressions of equal shock on their faces. They had both thought better of him, and would have some choice words for their friend when he returned.
Later that evening, Remus was sulking. He was sitting on his bed in the dormitories with the hangings drawn around him, a spell cast to alert him if anyone approached. He sat cross-legged, and was staring down at the bloody pile of broken glass that lay before him on his sheet. He had been so embarrassed and angry that he hadn’t even gone to see Madam Pomfry. He’d spent the entire day in his room, extracting the shards of glass with his wand. He’d only just gotten out the last bit, and now he was trying his best to focus on the dull ache and throb in his left hand, rather then on how terrible he felt inside.
Sirius knew he was in trouble. He had known it since he got up on that table. And since he had kissed the girl, well, he knew he was going to be in the doghouse for a long, long time. But what was he supposed to do? Hell, Sirius pulled that kind of stunt all the time. It was in his nature to do things without thinking, after all. That still didn't erase the feeling of sick in his entire body once the kiss was over. He chanced a glance towards where Remus had once stood. He had hoped to find his boyfriend there, but sadly, all he saw was a revolted looking Lily, and a hugely disappointed James. He wasn't sure where Remus went, and he couldn't very well go find him right then. With a small sigh and an apologetic look at his best friend, Sirius climbed down off the table, helped the girl down as well, and hand in hand, the two exited the hall, more screams of despair from the girls and hoots from most of the males.
Once out of the Great Hall, he let go of the girl's hand and gave her another smile. He sure was good at acting when he felt so disgusted on the inside. She smiled back at him, and he felt a pang of guilt. He'd have to break this girl's heart eventually. But not until after that date the following day. She was pretty, really, she was. But her smile wasn't anything like Remus' smile, and that was the smile he missed. For the briefest of seconds, Sirius thought about what his life would be like if he were anyone else but himself. But that thought was gone as soon as the girl spoke to him. “Wanna go out on the grounds?” She asked him, her voice clearly more confident now that she had snogged the infamous Sirius Black in the middle of the Great Hall.
He gave her a nod of his head and another smile. “Go on then.” He replied, and allowed the girl to lead him out onto the grounds. The two found a spot underneath a tree and spent the rest of the evening doing nothing else but snogging. Sirius preferred it that way. He didn't want to talk, because that would give him reason to think. He'd just preferred to stay distracted the entire time. It was quite late by the time the two had made it back up to the common room. Having bid the girl goodnight, Sirius plopped himself down in a chair, surrounded by nothing but the fire and several stacks of discarded books. Well, so he thought. Not a second after he sat down, James Potter himself appeared seemingly out of thin air right in front of Sirius. The dark haired boy jumped. “Shit, I told you not to sneak up on me like that.” Sirius said, his face looking angry, but he let out a laugh soon after. It surprised him that James didn't return that laugh. In fact, the boy looked like someone had just died.
“You're a git, Sirius.” James said sternly, shaking his head. This was exactly what Sirius wanted to avoid, but deep down, he knew he'd have to have this talk with James eventually. “I know.” the dark haired boy replied with another sigh, leaning over, his elbows on his knees, his head in his hands. “Right. Go up there and fix this. I'm not going to have my two best friends fighting because one of them can't keep it in his pants.” Sirius' eyes widened and his eyes gazed up to find a very serious James Potter staring back down at him. As much as Sirius hated to admit it, James was right. With another sigh, Sirius nodded his head and got up, making his way up the stairs to their shared dormitory. Once there, he found the room seemingly empty, though he was sure Remus was in there somewhere, the curtains on his bed were closed around it. “Remus..” Sirius said softly, closing the dormitory door behind him. “Can we talk?”
Remus heard the door open and almost instantly knew who it would be. He then heard Sirius’ voice, and he gripped his wand. For a moment, he considered cursing the boy, but he knew that wasn’t going to help him feel any better. Instead, he dispelled the alarm-charm and drew back his curtains with a flick of his wand.
He didn’t say anything, though. He was too angry to speak at the moment. If Sirius wanted to attempt to explain himself, Remus would listen, but chances were he probably wouldn’t say anything back. He knew that if he tried to speak to Sirius, he would start to cry again, and that was the very last thing he wanted to do. He hated crying. He hated that he’d broken down so easily that other night, and he refused to do it again. Maybe he was just going to accept the fact that Sirius cared more about his reputation, then he did about Remus. He certainly was making that obvious by the way he was acting.
He didn’t even look over at Sirius, simply sweat the broken glass away with his wand and let it settle with a soft tinkle down on his bedside table. He then scooted back on the bed making room for the other to sit if he wanted, all the while his gaze fixed on his own knees.
Sirius felt in that moment the same way he did the night he had kissed James' sister. Hopeless, sick to his stomach, and like he should just melt away into nothingness. Anything would have been better than what he got. He had prepared himself to get hit by a stream of jinxes, or maybe a flurry of fists, or tears, or screaming. He could have dealt with that. But Remus did nothing. He did absolutely nothing. Silence, that's what Sirius got when Remus laid eyes on him. Complete. Silence. That chilled him completely, and that feeling of guilt swept over him like an intense sort of fog. Mentally kicking himself for not thinking of anything to say to Remus on his way up to the dormitory, Sirius heaved a sigh and crossed the room, taking a seat next to Remus on his bed.
“Look..I...” He began, turning to face the other boy, who was determined to look no where but his own knees. “I'm..I'm sorry Remus.” He continued. His hand reached out to touch the sandy haired boy, but fell back down on the bed the next moment. Sirius wanted nothing more than to touch Remus, to kiss him, to know everything was going to be all right. But he knew it wouldn't be. “I..I know that sorry doesn't fix it.” That was obvious, but Sirius was known for being the captain of all things obvious. “And I know you won't forgive me right away..” That was the truth. Sirius honestly had no intention of trying to weasel his way into forgiveness this time. The only problem was that he just didn't know how to earn that forgiveness back.
He sighed once more. “But I'll do whatever I can to make it up to you. “ His voice nearly cracked saying those words, which would have matched the feeling he had in his heart. Sirius was sure that his heart, and probably his brain, was now permanently cracked in half. “I promise.” His voice had a sort of finality in the words. Standing up slowly, he moved to go to his own bed, to leave Remus alone for the night. But..he just couldn't leave without touching Remus at least once. Leaning down quickly, he placed a kiss to the top of his sandy haired lover's head. He wanted to do more, but he knew that Remus wouldn't allow it. With that, he turned on his heel and made his way back to his own bed, sitting on it, and taking his shoes off. “I love you, you know.” He said softly, not even sure if Remus could hear him. Once the shoes were off, Sirius laid himself down in bed, not bothering to put his sleeping clothes on.
Remus heard everything Sirius said, despite his remaining completely silent and refusing to look at him. The only problem was, he wasn’t sure how much he believed what Sirius was saying. If Sirius loved him, really loved him, then he would’ve assured Remus that the date was off. He would’ve said he’d never look at another girl again. Hell, he would’ve done anything but simply say it, and then go to bed.
Remus sighed, and got up finally, heading to the bathrooms to change, shower, and brush his teeth. No matter how depressed he got about things, he was always a stickler for hygiene. A short while later, he returned, and wouldn’t even let himself look in the direction of Sirius’ bed. He simply laid down in his own, drew the curtains, and attempted to will himself to sleep.
Sirius had a hell of a time trying to force himself to sleep that night. He tossed, turned, fell asleep, woke up, and repeated that pattern until morning. When he finally got up, it was nearing noon. He had missed breakfast, but if he hurried, Sirius might just make it down to lunch on time. Dressing quickly, not bothering to do much with his hair because it tended to look better if he didn't try so much, Sirius hurried down the stairs, out of the common room, ignoring some chubby girl with brown hair who tried to stop him by the portrait hole, and rushed as fast as he could to the Great Hall. Just as he suspected, he arrived just in time for lunch. James, Lily, and Remus were nowhere to be found, but that was alright for the time being. He shoveled as much food as he could possibly fit into his body before getting up from the table, and walking back out into the entrance hall.
He found the girl standing there, Rebecca, if he remembered right. She looked quite pretty, wearing some short dress that showed off her legs. Sirius liked legs on women. He gave her a smile, and let her take his hand in hers, as the two exited the castle and made their way down to Hogsmeade. The two had fun, which surprised the hell out of Sirius. He was expecting the girl to be stupid or boring, like they all were. But she was nice, really nice, and funny too. After spending the day browsing shops, buying trinkets, having a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks, and just lazily walking through the tiny little village, Rebecca pulled Sirius aside. It was getting close to dinner, but the girl seemed to have other things on her mind.
“Let's go there..” she whispered, pointing towards the Shrieking Shack. Everyone assumed that place was haunted, but Sirius knew different, being that he went there all the time with Prongs, Wormtail, and Moony. Shrugging his shoulders, Sirius allowed the girl to lead him back across the village, and inside the run down looking building. Once inside, Rebecca pounced on Sirius, pushing the much taller male against one of the walls. Eyes widening, Sirius chuckled, though a bit shakily. “Better be careful, you might knock the building down.” Rebecca ignored that comment, standing up on her tip toes to kiss Sirius fiercely, her hands beginning to work at the fastenings on his pants. The problem with this was that Sirius, though he felt terrible about what happened with Remus, was still a hormonal teenage boy, and sex was sex.
Soon, the girls' hands had found their way into Sirius' pants and were rubbing at the boy's cock through his underwear. Normally, by this time, Sirius would have been hard as a rock by now and ready to shag the girl. But..something was..odd. He pulled back from the kiss and stared down at his pants, a look of sheer bewilderment on his face. His cock just..wasn't..working. Surely something was wrong, it was SUPPOSED to work. Rebecca had noticed something odd about this as well, because try as she might, and stroked though she did, Sirius just couldn't get hard. Bright red began to creep up his neck. But..it had worked before..with Remus..And then it hit him. Sirius banged his head backwards against the wall. “Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.” He said to himself. Rebecca opened her mouth to speak, but Sirius was already ahead of her, having hiked his pants back up to where they were supposed to be and buttoning them.
Before she could reply, Sirius had sprinted across the room, thrown a haphazard “I'M SORRY.” her way before exiting the building. Once outside, Sirius ran, as hard as he could, through Hogsmeade, past Hogsmeade station, up the path towards the grounds, across the grounds, and into the castle. His chest was heaving by this point, being that the boy had seemingly just run for his life from some imaginary foe. Doubled over on his hands on his knees, Sirius panted for a moment, catching his breath, before dashing forward, pushing the door to the Great Hall open once more, and bursting in. The room was nearly full of people again, but Sirius didn't care. That didn't matter. He had one objective, and one only. For whatever reason, Sirius just could not have sex with anyone but Remus anymore. He couldn't explain it, he couldn't control it, and that scared him. Scanning the table for his boyfriend, Sirius inhaled sharply when he saw the sandy haired object of his affection. His heart started beating fast, and this time it wasn't from the running.
With a deep breath, Sirius strode up to the Gryffindor table and jumped onto it, landing on his feet with such style that it earned a few gasps from the surrounding people. “OI, EVERYONE LISTEN.” He called out again, his hands came to his mouth to form some sort of megaphone. “You.” He continued, once the hall was silent again, everyone waiting in anticipation for Sirius to repeat the performance from the night before. Though, they were all surprised to find out that Sirius Black, the school's very own Casanova, was pointing directly at Remus Lupin. Sirius strode, as confident as he could considering that his heart was nearly beating out of his chest, across the table, stopping himself right in front of Remus.
He kneeled down in front of the boy, just like he had done for Rebecca. “Hi. I'm Sirius Black, and I'm fucking in love with you.” Gasps were heard throughout the entire hall, but Sirius didn't care. With a quick movement, he had pulled Remus to his feet and onto the table with him. Without warning, without thinking, only acting, he wrapped his arms around his boyfriend and pulled him as close as he could, pressing his lips against Remus as if he didn't have a care in the world. And he didn't, because nothing else mattered right then to Sirius was Remus.
Remus had looked up as soon as he heard that voice shouting again. Oh Merlin, was he really going to have to go through this twice? Was he really going to have to watch Sirius pick out another random girl to no-doubtedly shag somewhere else? Well, that was it. It was over. Remus wasn’t going to be Sirius’ dirty little secret on the side. He deserved better than that, and he knew it. Sure, he was in love with Sirius, but he just couldn’t keep doing this.
Then, all thoughts of breaking up with Sirius left his mind as he saw that Sirius was pointing dramatically at him, and marching towards him. He stared up at him, his face riddled with bewilderment, and then, Sirius shouted that he was in love with Remus to the whole school, or at least the ones that were there for Lunch still.
Remus felt like his skin was on fire. Once more, Sirius had managed to make him blush all the way from his ears, down to his toes. If it were possible, he was sure his hair would’ve gone red as well from how embarrassed he was. “S-Sirius keep it down!” he stammered out, though he was soon being pulled to his feet.
He wasn’t allowed to say any more, either, as soon his lips were taken captive once more by those that he loved to kiss so very much. Him and Sirius were kissing, on the table, in front of everyone. Sirius, the ladies man of Hogwarts was admitting that he was in love with a male, and kissing said male. Remus could’ve died from all the emotions hitting him at once.
He was overwhelmingly embarrassed, happy, slightly frightened, taken aback, and a tad bit frustrated all at once. It was like his brain was on overload. The kiss broke after what felt like forever, and finally, for the first time in nearly twenty four hours, his eyes met Sirius’. “What about...what about that girl. What about your reputation?” he asked, his voice breathless and soft, only loud enough for Sirius to hear.
Hogwarts could have very well caught fire at that very moment and Sirius wouldn't have cared. A dark wizard could have been shooting the killing jinx in every direction and the male wouldn't have blinked an eye. Dumbledore himself could have been prancing around wearing nothing but a tea-cosey and Sirius would have..well he probably would have vomited, but that was very much beside the point. Remus was his, he was Remus', and now everyone in the school knew about it. The kiss was everything he needed it to be. He felt better about being a git, he felt happy that the two were finally alright, he felt relieved that this huge secret was finally off his shoulders. And most of all, he just felt complete again. It was scary for Sirius, to feel so complete with anything in his life, but as long as he was with Remus, he figured he'd be all right.
After the kiss was over, Sirius pulled back just a bit and smiled as wide as he could at the other male, still ignoring all the cries from everyone around them. “You broke it.” he said softly, to where only Remus could hear him. The male glanced down at his own pants, then back at Remus, then back at his pants, and back to Remus' again. “It doesn't work with anyone else but you now. So there's no good in being a Casanova if my cock only works for one person.” Sirius let out a small laugh and pressed another quick kiss to Remus' mouth before pulling back completely, taking Remus' hand in his own, and tugging the boy along with him as he walked back towards the end of the table. “CARRY ON THEN.” He called out, addressing the entirety of the school that had gathered in the great hall. He was sure that there would be rumors flying around about him and Remus before they even left the hall, but that didn't matter so much.
Sirius refused to let go of Remus' hand as the two climbed down from the table, and out of the great hall. Once they were in the entrance hall, Sirius turned to look at that sandy brown haired boy that he had accidentally tripped and fell head over heels in love with. “You wanna go out on the grounds?” He asked, giving Remus a small smile, tilting his head towards the exit towards all that landscape.
