Chapter 9

A/N: Guess what everyone! New chapter!! Midterms means procrastination, and procrastination means more writing! Haha, hopefully that means I'll actually finish this story soon. I'm sorry it's been so long. I was doing so well at first. Enjoy!

Chapter 9

Hermione smiled as she was pulled into yet another shop by her best friend. ‘Ginny, I think I have enough lingerie,’ Hermione complained as she looked around the shop that Ginny had brought her into.

‘Psh,’ Ginny admonished. ‘You can never have enough lingerie.’

It had been another day since hers and Draco’s anniversary party at the Potters’ home, and Hermione had promised Ginny that she could take her shopping today as an anniversary gift. Ginny had already bought Hermione two outfits, and she was now going to buy her some lingerie.

‘I have almost an entire closet full of lingerie, Gin,’ Hermione said, but looked around the shop anyways.

She found a cute teddy and felt bad as Ginny told the manager to put it on the Potter tab.

They decided to have a late lunch and Ginny led her to an expensive restaurant on the far end of Diagon Alley. ‘This one’s on you,’ Ginny said with a smile.

Hermione laughed. ‘I don’t have any money,’ she complained.

‘You just have to sign for it; it’s on the Malfoy account.’

‘I don’t remember how to sign my name,’ Hermione reminded her best friend.

Ginny pursed her lips for a moment. She then grabbed her purse and pulled a quill and a piece of parchment out of it. ‘Sign your name,’ she said.

Hermione looked at the quill dubiously. ‘I…’ she complained.

‘Just do it,’ Ginny said.

Hermione put the quill to the parchment and signed Hermione J. Malfoy. She laughed as she added a heart over the ‘i’ and a loopy ‘y.’ She gave the parchment back to Ginny.

‘Perfect!’ Ginny said.

‘What?’ Hermione asked. ‘That’s how I sign my name?’

‘Exactly. With the heart and everything,’ Ginny smiled.

Hermione just sighed. She supposed that writing ‘Hermione Jean Weasley’ into her diary so much when she was younger had left it there subconsciously.

‘So when did I first start forgetting?’ Hermione asked Ginny as she forked some romaine lettuce into her mouth.

Ginny laughed softly. ‘It was great,’ she said. ‘Well, not actually great, but hilarious afterwards…So, apparently this was after the first night that you had screamed out “Draco” instead of “Malfoy” when you were having it off with Draco.’

‘He told me about that,’ Hermione said with a smile. ‘Apparently I’ve also called him “Ferret” in bed.’

Ginny smirked. ‘That’s incredible. Anyways, so you came down to breakfast in the morning, not knowing that Draco had just popped down to the Great Hall to bring you back breakfast. Ron and Harry and I were all standing in front of the doors to the Great Hall and you came flouncing down to us and gave Ron a gigantic kiss and hugged him and asked “Why didn’t you stay with me last night?”’

‘Oh, Merlin,’ Hermione said in horrified shock.

‘Well, Ron pushed you away. You two were still fighting at this point. He said “Why would I stay with you? We’re not even together,” and that made you all upset because you thought that the two of you had just slept together the night before.’

‘I can imagine,’ Hermione said.

‘And that’s not the worst part. While you were crying and trying to kiss Ron again, Draco comes out of the Great Hall and sees you all over him.’

Hermione put her hand over her heart. ‘Oh, dear.’

‘So he got upset, asking you about the night before and whether it had meant anything to you, but you didn’t even know what he was talking about. Finally, he pulled you away from us, and when you came back, you had remembered everything. He says that he just kissed you and it all came back, but we were never certain.’

‘Kissed me…’ Hermione thought that sounded familiar for some reason, could feel something in her mind trying to trigger a memory.

‘Yeah, he said that you were arguing and then he just kissed you and you just remembered.’

He pushed her against the wall and slammed his mouth against hers. It was angry and possessive, full of punishment and desire.

She pushed him away fiercely. ‘I don’t belong to you.’

Hermione’s eyes closed. She knew that this snippet was not from the happenstance that Ginny had just mentioned, it had that anger and raw desire that was present in her snippets from ‘the fight’ as she had been calling that particular memory in her head.

‘How could you do that to me, Hermione? How the hell could you do that do me!?’

‘Jealous?’ she sneered.

He pushed her against the wall and slammed his mouth against hers. It was angry and possessive, full of punishment and desire.

She pushed him away fiercely. ‘I don’t belong to you.’

‘I know that I’ve never said it before, Hermione, but you have to know that I love you. I love you so fucking much.’

‘That’s good, Draco,’ she said with tears in her eyes. ‘Because we’re having a baby.’

All of the snippets were jumbled up in her brain and were not making any sense. She had to figure out what this fight was about.

‘Ginny, have I ever cheated on Draco?’

Ginny looked surprised for a minute. Her mouth opened slightly. Then she closed it and swallowed. ‘No,’ she said definitively.

‘You can tell me the truth, Ginny. I know we had a fight about it. I know I did something but I can’t remember it completely. I just know parts of it and I just don’t understand.’

Ginny looked for a long time at her friend. ‘If you really want to know what that fight was about, ask Draco. But no, Hermione, you have never cheated on him.’

Somehow that didn’t make Hermione feel any better.

When Hermione came back to the Manor that afternoon, she was told that Draco was in the nursery with Rose. She looked confused at the house-elf before the house-elf nodded and told her where the nursery was. She smiled and walked in that direction of the Manor.

While walking down the hall to that part of the Manor, she realised that she knew this hallway from somewhere. She knew it, but she could not place it. She hated that feeling, the feeling of déjà vu, but knowing that it was not déjà vu, but actual memories trying to permeate her consciousness.

She shook off the memories and walked towards the nursery. She found Draco reading to Rose and Rose drifting off for what was probably her afternoon nap. Hermione smiled at her daughter and Rose smiled back. Hermione went and sat in the chair next to Draco, listening to him read to their daughter until Rose fell asleep.

Draco smiled at her and grabbed her hand, pulling her up from the chair and dragging her out of the room, closing the door gently behind him. He had a mischievous look in his eyes and Hermione knew that he was up to something. She smiled at him.

Then she was hit with a mind-blowing, full-force déjà vu. She stopped in her tracks. Draco turned around. ‘Hermione, what’s wrong?’

‘I know this hallway,’ she said. She stared at the walls and the way that they were decorated, the portraits hanging along it, the small mahogany table, and she knew finally where she knew this hallway from. ‘This is where we had the fight.’

Draco grimaced. ‘I knew this was coming.’ He dragged her a little bit farther down the hall and pushed her roughly against one of the walls and said with resentment and reluctance in his voice, ‘How could you do that to me, Hermione? How the hell could you do that to me?!’

‘Jealous?’ she sneered.

‘Of course I’m jealous. You are mine.’

‘Ha!’ she laughed, though her arms were being held against the wall by him. Her tears had made her mascara run and she was wearing clothes that she did not feel comfortable in. ‘Don’t you remember, Draco? I broke up with you two months ago!’

‘You never told me that you were leaving me,’ he growled. ‘Which gives you no right to fuck other men.’

She laughed again. ‘I was gone for two months, Draco. I went to stay with Harry and Ginny thinking that you would come around and apologise, but you didn’t even owl me, didn’t even try to visit me, for TWO MONTHS!’

‘I thought you needed some time alone!’ he said. ‘I had asked you to move into the Manor and you seemed against the idea. I just wanted to give you space!’

‘I didn’t need space!’ Hermione yelled, tears in her eyes. ‘I needed you!’

‘Then why did you leave? Why did you fuck Weasley?’

‘Because he gave me something that you could never give me, Draco.’

‘What can’t I give you?’ he asked somewhat angrily. ‘I can give you anything you want.’

‘Not everything,’ Hermione said with a sad smile. ‘You can never compare to Charlie…’

Draco was angrier than he had ever been before. ‘I am better than a Weasley,’ Draco said in a deadly voice. ‘In all things, and nothing that belongs to me should be touched by a Weasley.’

He pushed her against the wall and slammed his mouth against hers. It was angry and possessive, full of punishment and desire.

She pushed him away fiercely. ‘I don’t belong to you.’

He looked angrily into her face. ‘You have belonged to me since the night you agreed to fuck me. Since you were bent over that bed, screaming my name as I spanked you with your favourite book.’

Hermione glared at him. ‘That may have been what I needed two years ago, Draco. But now I need more. And Charlie is much more mature than you are, and can give me that one thing.’

‘What one thing!?’ he asked in exasperation.

‘If you don’t know already, Draco, then you’re not worth my time,’ she said, trying to push him away in vain.

He held her hands steadfastly, but moved them to her sides.

‘Do you even know the reason I broke up with you?’ she asked, suddenly softly.

He stared at her for a long time, trying to decipher her thoughts from her expression. Finally, he shook his head.

‘I broke up with you because you don’t love me.’

‘Of course I love you!’ he shouted, surprising even himself with the exclamation.

Hermione looked at him in surprise. Her eyes filling with tears as she read the sincerity in his exclamation. ‘Then why have you never said it before?’

He shook his head slightly. ‘I didn’t know that’s what you wanted.’

‘Draco, we’ve been together for two years and for two years I have wondered when you were going to tell me how you actually felt. I’ve been waiting for you to tell me how you felt, because without those words, it meant that I could be cast aside at any time. Thrown away for something or someone else.’

‘Sweet Salazar, I know that I’ve never said it before, Hermione, but you have to know that I love you. I love you so fucking much.’

‘That’s good, Draco,’ she said with tears in her eyes. ‘Because we’re having a baby.’

He looked at her in surprise and, releasing her arms, put his hand over her stomach. ‘Is it mine?’ he asked seriously. She nodded her head. He kissed her.

Hermione opened her eyes and looked into Draco’s face. She remembered the fight. And with that memory, other memories started plopping into place, like Scrabble pieces falling onto the board of her life.

Her 20th birthday.

Her wedding.

Feeding Rose mushy peas.

Studying for NEWTs naked in bed with Draco.

Buying a stuffed unicorn for Rose.

Draco proposing.

‘Hermione, dear. Call me Lucius.’

‘Mummy!’

‘Yes, dad. Of course I’ll take over the business.’

‘I love you.’

‘I love you.

‘I love you.’

Draco looked at her with a slight smile on his face. ‘You remember.’

Hermione smiled at him. ‘I remember.’
