Chapter 9- A New School Year
Chapter 9- A New School Year
Hermione sighed as she sank into her tub. The new term had started a week ago. On the third day began the Quidditch auditions. From Wednesday till today, she had treated a multitude of Quidditch related injuries. Today was Friday. She just wanted to soak in a nice hot tub for at least an hour then go to bed.
“Aahh,” Hermione sighed.
“Feeling better?”
“Severus. I thought you had rounds tonight?”
“I finished early. I’ll leave if you want me to,” He teased as he rose to leave.
“No, don’t leave,” She said in a cute pouty voice. Severus just laughed as he began removing his robes. A few minutes later Severus climbed into the tub behind her. Hermione smiled as she felt his arms slid around her. He dropped a soft kiss onto her shoulder.
“How was your first week?” She questioned, her head falling back against his chest.
“Long and tiring. I swear the students get lazier each year,” He grumbled, taking a wash cloth and soaping it up.
“Surely not all your students are that bad,” She giggled.
Severus slowly began washing Hermione. Even though they were now lovers and spent the month before the term began together, they weren’t so used to sleeping in each other’s arms that it would interfere with their duties at the school. In fact, both agreed that during the week there would be no private time except at meals. If they saw each other in the corridors they acted completely professional. The weekends were a different matter. Unless one of them was busy, that was their time together.
“So, are you staying the night?” She asked as she wrapped a fluffy white towel around her.
“That was the plan love. Unless you rather I go back to my rooms,” He smirked wrapping another towel around himself.
“I’d like you to stay,”
“Then I will,”
With their arms wrapped around each other they headed for the bedroom. True to his word the day after Harry’s birthday, Severus made it well known that he and Hermione were together. The faculty found the news wonderful. The students weren’t so sure how to take it. Some of them didn’t believe it because of the lack of affection shown between them.
Severus pulled Hermione into his arms as they lay in bed. “I thought that maybe tomorrow we could have a picnic near the lake,”
“That sounds nice. What brought this on?” She grinned.
“I guess I just missed spending time with you,” He grazed her cheek with the back of his hand. Hermione just laughed as she snuggled into his arms. Even after she fell asleep, Severus stayed awake just holding her to him. ‘She means so much to me. I can’t believe I went so long without knowing the love that I have with Hermione?’ He wondered as he rested his head against hers. Slowly he drifted off to sleep.

Severus awoke to a beautiful sight. Sunlight poured into the room washing over the sleeping woman in his arms. He carefully rose to rest on his side with his head in his hand. Her hair was spread on the pillow, her hands tucked under her cheek. The sun caught soft honey highlights he never noticed before. Her skin was still tanned from her countless hours of yoga by the lake. The sun’s rays gave her tanned skin an even more golden glow. Severus smiled as he watched her nose crinkled as she began to wake up.
“Good morning love,” He brushed a strand of hair from her face.
“Good morning. How did you sleep?” Hermione stroked his hair.
“Peacefully. So, we should probably get dressed and head down for breakfast,” He chuckled.
“You’re right,” She nodded.
The couple climbed out of bed. During the night, a house elf had brought a change of clothes and a few toiletries from Severus’ chambers for him. As Severus grabbed a quick shower, Hermione brushed her teeth and fixed her hair.
Once finished, she returned to the bedroom. Since it was Saturday, Hermione decided to forgo her medi-witch robes. She pulled on a pair of blue jeans, a red shirt with three quarter length sleeves and donned simple maroon robes that signified her stature as a medi-witch.
“No bat robes,” She teased as Severus pulled on a pair of black jeans and a green V-neck sweater.
“I told you I changed after you graduated. That includes my wardrobe. On weekends I don’t wear my teaching robes. You don’t like my clothes?” He replied.
“No,” She stated. Before he could respond, she started grinning. “I love them. Like I said that night of our first date, I’m glad you changed and found peace. The changes you’ve made in your life are for the best,”
Severus returned her smile as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her tenderly. Arm-in-arm the couple left her rooms and headed for breakfast. Any doubts the students had about their relationship vanished when they saw Severus and Hermione enter the Great Hall.
******************************************************************************
Severus left the kitchens with the perfect picnic lunch in a basket in one hand and a blanket n the other. He smiled softly as he walked into the hospital wing. However, his smile faded at what he saw. Sitting on six cots were six sixth years students; two from Ravenclaw, two from Slytherin and two from Gryffindor. Hermione stood with her hands on her hips, addressing the students.
“I can’t believe how stupid you six are. You could have seriously injured each other,” Hermione scolded.
“We were just practicing,” One of the Gryffindors began.
“I don’t want to hear your lame excuses Mr. Clothier. I will be notifying your Head of House. It is up to them to determine your punishment. Now, you six sit tight while I get everything to take care of this mess,” Hermione glared.
“What happened Madame Granger?” Severus spoke up.
“Ah Professor Snape. It would seem these students took it upon themselves to practice dueling. They told me what spells were used. Luckily, they weren’t seriously hurt. Of course they will be staying overnight to be safe,” Hermione answered.
“I see. Mr. Marks, Mr. Keller, the two of you will lose 20 points each and have a week’s worth of detention with Mr. Filtch beginning tomorrow night,” Severus addressed his Slytherins.
As Hermione headed for her stores cabinet, Severus followed. He could see her shoulders slumped slightly as she gathered the appropriate potions and salves. “I’m sorry about this Severus. I was really looking forward to having lunch with you today,”
“Honey it’s alright. Maybe tomorrow. I guess you’ll be busy tonight huh?” He smiled softly.
Hermione just nodded as they left the stores cabinet. While she left to tend the students, he turned and headed for her office. He sat the basket on the desk and unpacked half the basket for Hermione. Once finished he left the office.
“I suggest you six lay down and get comfortable and get rest. It’s going to be an uncomfortable and long night for all of you; not mention the rest of the afternoon,”
“Yes Madame Granger,” the six mumbled.
One by one Hermione drew the curtains around each of the beds. Hermione turned and found Severus leaning against the door frame of her office. Hermione sighed as she walked to him. “Well, I guess I better send for Minerva and Filius. As well as write up my report,”
“I’ll tell Minerva and Filius for you. I left your lunch on your desk. You eat and write your report. I’ll stop by later and check up on them okay?” He said.
“Thank you. I’ll see you later,” She nodded with a smile. Severus returned her smile. He then leaned down and kissed her. Hermione moaned quietly as he pulled her close. Slowly he pulled away.
“I love you,” He whispered.
“I love you too,” She smiled.

Hermione sat back in her chair. Just after lunch Minerva and Filius, along with Albus came by. Hermione told Albus what Severus’ punishment for his students. Minerva and Filius delivered the same punishment. The Gryffindors were to serve their detentions with Minerva and the Ravenclaws were to serve theirs with Hagrid. It had been a long day. Just after lunch the six students began feeling the effects of the potions and salves. There was little Hermione could do except give them a mild sleeping draught. It was now ten after midnight.
“Hello my dear,” Albus greeted.
“Hello Albus,” Hermione nodded.
“Hermione, why don’t you go get some sleep,” He smiled.
“I can’t leave my charges Albus,” She argued.
“I’ll sit with them. You could use a few hours sleep,” He insisted.
“I guess you’re right. Well, I’ll see you in a few hours,” She agreed. She stood up and started to leave. Before she left, she turned and faced him. “Thank you Albus,”
“You’re quite welcome,” He said.
