Vampires

Vampires

Harry watched in mute horror, watching Snape and Kingsley pampered Hermione like a queen. They dressed her in a black silk robe and slippers. She caressed each of their cheeks with an intimacy that made Harry feel as if he were watching something intensely private.

“Why did you bring him here during our meal?” Snape asked.

“He asked why Kingsley should hate him so much. You told me to tell him the truth. He wouldn’t have believed me otherwise.”

“A doubting Thomas is our Harry,” Hermione sighed, her hand going over to Shacklebolt who was sitting at their feet. Kingsley closed his eyes and leaned into her touch. “Severus…”

“I know,” he muttered. “Take him out of here. We will talk with him later. At the moment our queen is half starved.”

Moody nodded and pulled Harry out of the rooms. He was already asking the old auror questions upon questions when they reached the main corridor. The older wizard stopped him and simply took a few deep breaths before he could answer.

“Hermione was made a vampire in order to protect you more efficiently. In other words so she could out maneuver, out last, and out live any wizard that should come after you.”

“But…” He couldn’t think of anything to say he was so shaken.

“She gave up her life for you. Everything, Harry, not just her mortality.”

“What do you mean?”

Moody snorted. “Don’t you know anything, Potter? Did we teach you nothing? Think!”

Harry racked his brain, trying as he might to come up with the answers. What he knew about vampires was mostly fiction he had to admit. The truth of what they were was so beyond what the muggle world thought they were. But he didn’t know or understand what he had seen so far.

Moody let out a disgusted snort. “Still hoping to get the answers from Hermione? This isn’t going to be tested, you know.”

“Some female vampires have followers, they have territories, and they…”

“Cannot marry, cannot have children, and will never be accepted into society ever because of what they are,” Moody whispered. “She did it for you, because she believed in you, Harry. And what she received in return was your disloyalty and your betrayal. Where were you when she needed you? Telling everyone you could get to listen to hear about how she murdered Lupin, wasn’t it?”

“She killed…”

“Do you know what happened that night?” he asked him.

He shook his head no and snapped, “No one will tell me!”

Moody leaned in and growled, “Then shut up!” He hobbled away grumbling about idiots never seeming to learn their lessons.

“Why didn’t you tell me that Hermione was a vampire?”

Bill’s head snapped around, his eyes narrowing as he stood there. “I didn’t know it was necessary to do so. Who told you?”

“Moody took me over during their feeding.”

Bill relaxed at that. “Leave it to Moody.” He snorted. “Personally, I don’t know how I could have done it. Not without begging her to bite my neck that is.”

“She feeds from you too?” Harry asked weakly.

He nodded.

“That would make you…”

“I am her minion and she is my queen.”

“And Snape?”

“Her consort, but she calls him her husband,” But then he held his hand up. “Speak of the devil.”

Harry swung around to see Snape strolling over to Bill and whisper something to him. Bill nodded, getting up quickly and rushed away.

“What’s the matter?” Harry asked, making Snape look over to him with narrowed eyes.

“Hermione has been starving herself,” he answered. “As a result she’s more ravenous than usual.” Snape studied him. “So have you been getting the answers you were looking for, Potter?”

“Yes and no.” Harry took a sip of his now cold coffee. “All I seem to be getting is more questions.”

“Not a surprise,” he murmured. “The next person you speak to is Tonks.”

He rushed over to the professor. “Tonks? Hasn’t she been through enough?”

Snape’s eyes narrowed as he snarled, “She’s expecting you.”
