Chapter 8

Broken Wings

Chapter 8

Hermione left her solicitor’s office. She had decided she would leave her house and basement labs to Severus. His home had been destroyed when Lucius had discovered Narcissa was lusting after Severus. After all, Severus always said he liked her home.

‘I can’t believe I’m doing this,’ she thought as she exited Diagon Alley.

At the same moment, Severus was at 12 Grimmwauld Place telling the Order of Hermione’s decision. She knew Albus, Minerva, Draco, Remus, and Sirius as well as a few others would understand. After all, everyone in the Order knew she was a Jedi. Making sure the coast was clear, she apparated away.

She quickly thought of 12 Grimmwauld Place and watched it appear. Quietly, she entered the house. As she neared the kitchen, she heard the raised voices of Harry and Ron. Groaning, she entered the kitchen.

“How can she abandon us!” Ron yelled.

“She promised she would fight with us!” Harry added.

“You two don’t get it. Hermione didn’t ask to be a part of this war. Yes she’s a witch, but she doesn’t and never will truly belong here on Earth. She belongs with the Rebellion,” Severus shot back.

“What do you know about Hermione?” Harry demanded.

“I know she’s a gifted witch, but she belongs with the Jedi Order. She has more invested in the Rebellion than she does here Potter,” Severus growled.

“He’s right Harry,” Hermione said as she entered the room.

“Why?” Draco asked.

“Guys, my heart and the Force are leading me down a different path. My place is beside the man I was born to love. He and I are meant to rebuild the Jedi Order and defeat the Empire,” she answered.

“Who is he Hermione?” Sirius questioned.

“His name is Luke Skywalker. As we speak, he and his friends are battling the Empire. You no longer need me but they do. I can feel it,” she explained.

“Then you must go where the Force leads you child. We will miss you,” Albus smiled as he and Minerva stood up.

Hermione hugged the couple who had become like parents to her. The others quickly followed suit, wishing her luck. Everyone except Harry. She sighed as she watched him leave the kitchen. Hermione turned and followed him. She found him in the library.

“Harry, I know this is hard for you. Just like you can’t change your destiny to fight Voldemort, I can’t fight my destiny to help the Rebellion,” she sighed.

“Mione, I don’t want to loose you. If you leave, when will I see you again?” he whispered as he faced her.

“Oh Harry,” she smiled and gathered him into her arms. “You’ll never loose me as a friend. As to when we’ll see each other, I don’t know. Once the Empire is defeated, perhaps Luke and I can visit and you can meet him,” she smiled.

“I guess I can live with that,” he laughed.

“You’ll have to,” she giggled.

Two hours later, Hermione and Severus were back at her house. He was helping her load the last of her possessions onto the KARYTHIAN MOON. Once the last of it was loaded, they stood at the bottom of the ramp saying their good byes.

“Where will you go?” Severus asked.

“Sullust. The fleet is there,” Hermione answered.

“How do you know?” he questioned.

“Leia. She said Luke had something to do and would meet them there. They successfully rescued Han. He, Leia, and Lando are with the fleet and Leia and Han will meet me in a week,” she replied.

“What about your house? It’s a shame to let it go to waste,” he sighed.

“It won’t. The house is yours now my friend. I know how much you like it,” she smiled handing him the paperwork and keys.

“Thank you. I’ll miss you,” he nodded.

“I’ll miss you too,” she said.

The two hugged tightly. She had given him a commlink and he promised to keep in touch. Severus stepped back as she boarded her ship. With a final wave from the cockpit, Hermione took off and headed toward her destiny and future.

Leia and Han stood in the hanger as Hermione landed. “Does the kid know she’s coming?” Han asked with a smirk.

“No,” Leia smiled as the ramp lowered.

Leia and Hermione rushed toward each other and hugged fiercely. “We’ve been worried about you,” Leia sighed.

“I’m fine, I didn’t run into a single Imperial the whole trip. Have you heard from Luke?” Hermione asked as they came apart.

“Not since we got here. He didn’t say where he was going,” Leia answered, a hint of worry in her voice.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine. I know where he is. He’ll be here soon,” Hermione replied.

“Good to see you kiddo,” Han grinned.

“Same here Han,” Hermione chuckled as she hugged him.

The three left the hanger. Leia filled Hermione in on what happened on Tatooine. Hermione couldn’t help but feel proud of Luke. Leia showed Hermione to her room on the ship. As Hermione changed to meet with Admiral Ackbar and General Madine, she let her thoughts wonder.

‘I wonder what Luke is going to say when he sees me,’ she thought.

Severus groaned as he came to. He looked up to see Voldemort standing above him wearing an evil smile. “Hello traitor,” Voldemort chuckled.

“Well, at least I no longer have to pretend to like you,” Severus smirked.

“A smart alec until the end. Too bad your wit won’t save you,” Voldemort snarled.

“Show’s how poor your information is,” Severus smiled.

Before Voldemort or the other Death Eaters could react, Severus used the Force to release his restraints. He quickly pulled out his blue lightsaber. He cut his way through the Death Eaters and ran for it.

“Let him go,” Voldemort hissed.

“My Lord?” Wormtail questioned.

“He’s a Jedi. We will deal with him again. Besides, we have bigger fish to fry. Is everything set?” Voldemort stated.

“Things are progressing perfectly,” Wormtail answered.

“Excellent. For now forget the traitor. He will get his soon enough,” Voldemort replied.

Severus arrived at the gates of Hogwarts. He opened the gates and calmly walked up to the castle. He figured Voldemort wouldn’t fight him, but that didn’t mean his escape was a success. He headed straight for Albus’ office. He found Albus having tea with Sirius.

“Severus? Is everything alright?” Albus asked, noting the dirty and torn robes of his Potions Master.

“No. Voldemort knows I’m a spy. Even more, he knows I’m a Jedi,” Severus answered as she sat down.

“Well, this day just keeps getting better,” Sirius sighed.

“What should we do?” Albus questioned.

“Wait I guess. I feel he’s planning something. Something big,” Severus replied.

“Planning what?” Sirius wondered.

“I don’t know. I’ll meditate and let you know if the Force shows me anything,” Severus stated.

Hermione was leaving the training room when she ran into Leia. “Getting in some lightsaber practice?” Leia smiled.

“Yep. I noticed you and Han getting a bit friendly,” Hermione teased.

“What can I say. He’s grown on me,” Leia laughed.

“I know that feeling,” Hermione nodded.

“Care to tell me about Luke’s visit?” Leia prodded.

“It was great. I just wish we had more time, but I understand. At least he and I will be together now,” Hermione sighed.

“I’m just glad you’re happy. Luke’s a good man,” Leia stated.

“Yes, he is,” Hermione agreed.

The two women talked a while longer before Hermione headed for her cabin. She sat her lightsaber on her nightstand before heading for the refresher. She sighed as the water washed over her body.

‘Luke, I can’t wait till you get here. I just hope he doesn’t get upset that I didn’t tell him,’ she thought.

She entered her room and heard her commlink going off. “Granger,”

“Hermione, it’s Severus,”

“Is everything alright?” she asked worriedly.

“Voldemort knows I’m a spy and a Jedi. he’s planning something Hermione. I just don’t know what. It’s got me worried,” he explained.

“Have you mediated on this?” she questioned.

“Yes, but the Force was no help. I don’t know what that means,” he sighed.

“It means that events are already in motion that can’t be stopped. Just keep alert and be careful,” she advised.

“I will. May the Force be with you,” he said.

Hermione ended the transmissions. She had a feeling that things were about to become even more complicated. She let out a heavy sigh as she got ready for bed.
