Another Black to be Sorted
Another Black to be Sorted
There was a loud bellow of the train’s whistle and the smell of its smoke stack filling the air. The student began to board the Hogwarts’ Express. The families of the student were crowded about the platform wishing their children a good semester at school. Andromeda, now in her third year, waited on the platform all though all of her trunks had been loaded into a car for her. She was scanning the crowds, looking for something or someone.
“Well, well. Are you waiting for me to board the train ‘cause here I am.” A familiar voice sounded from behind her. She turned around to see a first year with black wavy hair to his shoulders and a big smile of his face. He walked up to her with his arms wide open and embraced her in the tightest hug that he could. He whispered in her ear, “Or perhaps you’re waiting for a certain Hufflepuff.”
“Sirius!” Andromeda said as she whacked her cousin in the bicep.
“Now, now. Do you always go insulting the prettiest of ladies, Sirius? Andromeda heard another unfamiliar voice say to her left. She turned to see a boy the same age as Sirius walking towards them with a smile on his face, black round rimmed glasses and unkempt black hair.
She smiled at the boy as Sirius at her side and gestured his hand to the approaching boy, saying, “I would like to introduce you to James Potter. James this is my dearest cousin, Lady Andromeda Black, of the noble house of Blacks.”
Andromeda looked at the boy in front of her and extended her hand to him. “So you’re James, the one I’ve heard so much about. I can see you two are going to be causing a lot of trouble in the next seven years.” She said shaking his hand.
She felt Sirius’ hand on her shoulder, “Only if we are lucky.” He said smirking at her. “Come on James, lets go get a good car. See you at school.”
She watched the two young boys board the train and walked down the corridor and into a compartment facing the platform. She saw Sirius take the seat by the window and look out towards her with a half smile. In an instant she saw Sirius’ smile broaden quickly as he looked beyond her. She wondered what had made him smile so broadly. Before she could manage to turn around to see what it was her cousin was smiling at she felt a pair of arm slip along her sides and encircle her waist.
“Are you waiting for me?” A sensual deep voice whispered over her shoulder as she felt lips graze the rim of hers ear and she breathed in a familiar cologne.
She turned around in those arms to have her brown eyes meet the most loving pair of hazel eyes staring back at her, his. She had been longing to see those eyes again. She loved how he looked at her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and said, “Maybe I was.”
He leaned forward, kissing her ever so gently on the mouth just for a moment before looking back into her gaze. “Then I am the luckiest man in the world, both Wizarding and Muggle.” He slipped his hand up the curvature of her neck and threaded his fingers into her hair, pulled her closer to him and began kissing her with such a flame of passion that he had to bring her body flushed to his to catch her as he felt her knees buckle a little. He released her after a few moments, making sure that she was able to stand on her own, and extended the crook of his arm to her saying, “Shall we go to find a car?”
She hooked both of her arms around his extended one. “Yes, let us go.” She said blissfully looking at him. They walked towards the train and Andromeda had now noticed Sirius teasing her from his compartments window and flashed him a scolding look.
They both were walking down the corridors when Andromeda heard her name being called. She looked over Ted’s shoulder seeing a blonde witch hanging half of her body out the door of a compartment up ahead of them. She slid in front of Ted grabbing his hand and began moving down the train to the witch up ahead.

“Oye! I’ve got us a car right here! Hurry up now you lolly-gaggers.” Alison yelled down the train at her roommate and her beau. She pulled herself back into the car as she saw Andromeda and Ted drawing closer. Inside the car was another young man also in his third year. She turned towards him. “Promise you’ll try to be nice. She is my best mate and even though her beau is in Hufflepuff he really is a good guy, you’ll see. Besides you have to like them to get to me.” She said, coyly smiling and kissing him on that last part.
His fingers were lace together behind her back as he pulled her into his lap. “All right Love, I’ll try but I can’t promise anything though.” the young man said as he caressed her cheek. He had shoulder length auburn hair and sea foam green eyes that Alison had become totally encompassed in at times. He would be true to his word and be civilized towards the couple approaching their car no matter what house they were in.
Andromeda walked into the room first with Ted in tow, laughing at his antics about the first years that they had just almost tripped over to get to the car that Alison had called from. They both were surprised when they walked into the car, seeing the witch in her wizard’s lap. Andromeda had thought for a moment that they had walked into the wrong car until she realized that it was Alison in the wizard’s lap. “Oh sorry ‘bout that.” Andromeda said as Alison stood up.
Alison immediately went straight to Andromeda and the girls embraced for a few moments. When they parted Andromeda was able to see the wizard in the car with them. “Balthus, is that you?” she had said.
“I do hope so. That is what my parents tell me.” He said smiling, standing up and placing his hand on the small of Alison’s back as everyone laughed. He moved towards Andromeda and extended his hand. She extended hers as well. He grasped he hand and turned it over and kissed the back of her hand while making a small bow. “I hope your summer was well.”
Balthus then turned towards Ted, standing as tall as he could, and extended his hand towards him. He knew that no matter how tall he tried to stand he would never over shadow this 5’5” Hufflepuff. Balthus was lucky to be around 4’9”. “I don’t believe we have formally been introduced, Balthus Codswell.
Ted grasped Balthus’ hand firmly and shook, “I don’t believe we have, Balthus. Theodore Tonks, but please call me Ted.” He noticed a small wince come across Balthus’ face when he shook his hand. Ted had a bit of a habit doing that to people, not realizing his own strength. He had remembered his father telling him to be firm when shaking someone’s hand for the first time. He released Balthus’ hand and gave him a rueful look.
Ted turned towards Alison and opened his arms towards her as she was just coming out of her embrace with Andromeda. “Hello Ali-Bear.” he said as he caught her up in a bear hug, making sure not to squeeze her too hard.
“Hello Ted-i-bear. How was your holiday?” Alison asked, slightly winded from his bear hug. He really didn’t know his strength.
“Pretty good. Mum and Dad had me helping them with their newest endeavor.” He said putting his hands up in the air and wiggling them back and forth in a mocking way. “They are calling it a garden but it’s more like a small farm if you ask me. I must of spent the majority of the summer working the land.” He held his arms out towards the girls. “I did get a nice tan though.”
They all listen to the antics of what Ted’s “farm life” was this summer. He even had Balthus laughing so hard that he had to ask Ted to stop for a moment so he could catch his breath. Before they knew it the train was pulling into Hogsmead and the carriages were waiting to take them to the castle. They made their way off the train and into a carriage together with Ted still making them all laugh and Balthus now joining in on the antics. They were also two Ravenclaws that joined them in the carriage and by the time the carriage had arrived at the castle steps they too were holding their sides from the hysterics of the two.
When the carriages halted the group got out of their carriage wiping their eyes of the tears of laughter. Ted stepped out before Andromeda and offered his hand to help her down but as soon as she grasped a hold of his hand, he pulled her firmly from the door and cradled her body into his arms and spun around with her so that they were facing the castle.
“Shall I carry you over the threshold?” He said with a smile. “It may not be our very own home but we’ll make do for now. At least here we can be together. When we leave here I will get us a proper home.” He looked into her eyes earnestly. All he could think was that he only had three more years until they would graduate and leave these halls. He would make her his wife as soon as they could.
She knew that any place they would get to call home would be proper as long as they were together. She gazed at him lovingly, leaned in, kissing him soundly on the mouth. It was when she pulled back from his kiss that she noticed others were staring at her and Ted, noticing the disgusted looks that any passing Slytherin were giving them. “Maybe we shouldn’t. Everyone is already looking at us.” She said.
“Let them look.” Ted said looking into her eyes with such love and with a longing to feel her lips on his again. He began to lean towards her and she leaned in to let him know that it was what she wanted as well. His lips just grazed hers as he heard a voice cackling from behind him, making her pull back from him. He groaned and cursed silently as he let his head fall to her shoulder.
“Oh dear gods, I might be ill! Now I won’t even be able to eat anything at the ‘Welcome Feast’ thanks to you, ‘Romé, and you filthy mud-blood.” Bellatrix said as she and a group of Slytherins came up behind Andromeda and Ted. “Come Rudolfo. We proper couples shouldn’t be in the presence of muggle-born lovers and their pets. We might catch something.” She said as she waved her hand at the two standing there. She then looped her arm in Rudolfo’s arm and the both walked off, sneering disdainfully at the couple.
Andromeda could feel something welling up deep inside her and before she knew it, she had her wand in her hand and without thinking trained it to her sister’s back. She hadn’t known she grabbed her wand. Without even saying a word, Andromeda could feel her wand begin to vibrate and the tip begin to glow purple, and she could feel she was about to cast something although not sure what it would be. Suddenly a voice broke through the trance like state that she was in.
“Look Andromeda! The boats are almost here.” Ted yelled to her. He was trying to think of something to break her of the trance she had been in when he saw the boats out the corner of his eye. He saw that in a flash of an eye her wand was out and beginning to glow. He didn’t know what kind of curse made the witch’s wand glow purple but suspected it was not good. He couldn’t let her do something terrible that she would regret later or worse, get punished for.
Andromeda turned towards Ted’s Voice to see him point down the side of the cliff. She looked out into the lake and saw the boats bobbing towards the docks, noting that they were only about 10ft away. She began to scan over the boats passengers looking to see if she could recognize any of them. She located James and Sirius in one boat when see saw the glint off of James’ glasses. She began scan over the boats again, beginning to smile as she noticed a boat with a petite young witch sitting in the front had long platinum blonde hair and creamy white skin. The young witch was the first out of the boats once they reached the dock. She reached for Ted’s hand and pointed to the girl timidly disembarking, “There she is. She looks so scared. Did we look that scared?” she said.
“Probably, I wouldn’t worry about ‘Cissa though. Before you know it she’ll have put some wizard under her spell and have him bowing to her ever whim.” Ted had said as he slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her back into him. He gently kissed her check and whispered into her ear. “We should get going though. Dumbledore will expect everyone seated soon.” He extended his arm and she grabbed it tightly and he led her towards the castle. He looked down at her and smirked, saying “Beside we want to see what house she gets sorted into, don’t we?” They both already knew what house she would most likely going to be in.
“Gee, I wonder. Like that’s a real hard guess.” She said smiling as they walked up the stone stairs towards the two large heavy wooden doors. When they were just inches away from walking threw the door when Ted swept Andromeda off her feet and into his arms, carrying her through the doorway and into the Entrance Hall. Ted looked into her eyes and spoke. “I told you. This is going to serve as our first home together until I can make you my wife and buy us a proper home to raise our family in.”
Andromeda looked into his eyes and could see all the love that was emulating through them to hers. She cupped her hand to the side of his face and drew him close to be able to kiss his lips with all the love and passion she had in her body. She knew he meant every word that he said and looked forward to the day until it would all come true.

They had just made it to their respective tables before the new first years were escorted into the Great Hall by Professor McGonagall. At the front of the line Alison and Andromeda could see Narcissa standing and flipping her hair at a boy sitting at the end of the Slytherin table. Alison leaned back to see a boy in his second year with long platinum blonde hair smirking at Narcissa. “Well look at the boy Narcissa picked. She picked the boy who looks the most like her. Guess it’s a vanity thing. Aren’t they a match made in heaven.” Both girls giggled as Professor McGonagall prepare to call the names of the new students. They heard Narcissa’s name called and watched her as she sauntered up to the stool. There were two boys, sitting near the boy who Narcissa had been looking at, that began to drool. The young blonde wizard noticed them looking Narcissa over and backhanded both of them for doing so. It looked as if the wizard was already staking his claim for the young witch.
Narcissa sat on the stool with her legs crossed and then the hat was placed on her head. The hart began to come to life. “Ah, who might this be, yet another Black sister? Well, well I know where you are suited…Slytherin!!!” Once the hat was taken off her head she began to walk towards the Slytherin table and all the boys hoped that she would sit down near them. The young wizard with the long platinum blonde hair stood up and walked towards her and extending his hand and she took it. He bowed and kissed her hand and led her to sit down next to him and she reveled in the possessiveness that he was showing. Next was a lanky boy with stringy black hair who was sorted into Slytherin. He walked over to Narcissa and sat down on the other side of her blocking her in between the two boys. The blonde haired boy nodded thankfully at the black haired boy for helping keep the other boys away from her, who nodded back to the blonde boy before looking back to another first year with long reddish brown hair still waiting to be sorted.
Andromeda and Alison fell in to some chit chat as the first years were sorted into their new house. They heard James be called and sorted into Gryffindor. Andromeda knew that Sirius was next. She heard Sirius’ name called and watched him walk up to the stool, take a seat and have the hat paced on his head. It began to speak, “Yet another from the house of Black enters these halls. Ah yes, yes, very courageous, strong willed, and a heart that is true and pure. Another Black has come through with these same qualities as you. They were sort into a different house for a reason but this time I will not make a mistake…Gryffindor!!!”
Sirius turned towards Andromeda and both of their jaws dropped. She was so stunned by the comment that the hat had made that she couldn’t even move. A smile came to her face as she could feel her heart lighten. She always had hope that the hat was wrong. She was now hoping that Sirius would be able to bring the name ‘Black’ into a good light instead of all this darkness. She did feel a twinge of betrayal and jealousy that he would not be in the same house as her and that he left the family and escaped to the Potter’s, leaving her to be the black sheep and now got to go to a different house.
She had Ted that was her rock and filled her life with a love she had never felt before and gave her a complete feeling. He was through most of the day and night in the halls of Hogwarts. She did feel lucky to have made friends with Alison that first day on the boat ride to Hogwarts. Without her she would have been so alone in her house. She had become the sister that Andromeda always had wanted, but never had found in her own blood sisters. Alison was there to share in all of her joys and gossip with during the long nights in their dorm room. The two of them felt it was up to them to make other realize that not everyone who was in the house of Slytherin was evil. Little did they know that a snake that had come through their house before them was now lying in wait for the perfect moment to strike.

Little did they know that a snake that had come through their house before them was now lying in wait for the perfect moment to strike.
