Chapter 9
Potions and Killing Curses
Chapter 9
Sirius stood beside Albus as they knocked on the door to Snape Manor. Sirius didn’t like the idea of helping Severus. All Albus had told him was that Severus needed his help with the potion Hermione created and nothing more.
“Master Albus, wes was getting worrieds.” Celest said as she opened the door.
“Sorry Celest. Please get Severus and have him meet us in the library.” Albus instructed.
The elf nodded and disappeared. Albus led Sirius to the library. Sirius plopped onto the sofa while Albus began pacing. Sirius knew something was wrong, but for whatever reason, Albus wouldn’t tell him. A few moments later, Severus entered the library. He closed the door and cleared his throat.
“Snape.”
“Black.”
“How is she?” Albus questioned.
“Still sleeping. Have you told him?” Severus answered.
“I wanted to wait till we were here. Sirius, today Hermione and Severus had left the manor to collect one of the ingredients they needed for the potion. On their outing, a woman pricked Hermione with a dart. The dart was laced with the Rhine Maiden poison.” Albus explained.
“WHAT! YOU BASTARD! YOU SAID YOU WOULD PROTECT HER!” Sirius screamed as he jumped to his feet.
Albus grabbed Sirius and forced him back on the sofa. “That is enough Sirius! Hermione needs your help. Severus will be brewing the antidote, while he’s doing that, you will be working on the potion Hermione created. Celest will be reporting back to me. I want you both to control your issues toward one another. The last thing Hermione will need when she is awakened is to find you trying to kill one another.” Albus instructed angrily.
Both Wizards glared evilly at each other. Finally, they nodded to Albus in agreement. Severus then explained to Sirius where they were with Hermione’s potion and what needed to be done next.
“You will find her notes and the instructions in the lab on the desk.” Severus said.
“Fine. Can I see Hermione?” Sirius asked.
“I will take you, but you can only stay a few moments.” Albus answered.
Albus and Sirius left the library. Once alone, Severus dropped into one of the armchairs and let out a shuddered breath. Celest popped in and walked over to her Master, placing her hand on his knees.
“Whats cans I do Master?” Celest asked.
“I don’t know Celest. I can’t loose her. I’m scared of failing her again. I swore to protect her, but today I failed on that vow.” Severus said sadly.
“Yous didn’t fails Mistress. Yous loves her and she loves yous. Yous will saves her.” Celest replied gently.

For the next month Severus worked non stop on the antidote while Sirius worked on the potion that Hermione had created. The two men avoided each other as much as possible. Sirius wasn’t allowed to be with Hermione alone. Celest watched Sirius like a hawk when he visited Hermione.
“Snape, we need to talk,” Sirius said as he entered the bedroom where Hermione was sleeping.
“Not now Black,” Severus snarled.
“No, we need to talk now. It’s about the potion and possibly about Hermione,” Sirius insisted.
Severus sighed, kissed Hermione’s forehead, and followed Sirius into the lab. Sirius closed the door, and faced Severus. “Look, over the past month, I’ve realized something. Something that I have a hard time admitting, but I realized that you love Hermione. Does she return your feelings?” Sirius questioned.
“Not that it matters to you, but yes. She told me she loved me and she stayed at my side when I was discovered as a spy,” Severus spat.
“I see. You know, I thought I was in love with her for a while, but after seeing you with her, I knew then that I didn’t. I mean, I love her, but I’m not IN love with her. All I ask is that you love her the way she deserves to be loved. You and I have never gotten along and we probably never will, but I’m willing to try and get along with you for Hermione’s sake,” Sirius explained.
“I will love and cherish Hermione. As for you and I getting along, I will give it a try. For Hermione’s sake,” Severus said.
“Good. Now, for the potion, it’s complete. What Hermione didn’t realize is that, a few of the steps could be combined and it will make the potion twice as strong. It’s done and ready to go,” Sirius added.
“It’s finished? That’s a relief. Thank you,” Severus sighed.
“How’s the antidote coming?” Sirius asked.
“I only have one step left. It has to be done at midnight during the full moon. Hopefully it will revive her,” Severus answered.
“Need some help?” Sirius questioned with a smirk.

Later that night, Sirius and Severus stood at Hermione’s bedside with the finished antidote. The moon was now sinking in the night sky as dawn drew closer. “Here goes,” Severus said.
“Don’t worry, it will work,” Sirius assured him as he held Hermione up so she was sitting.
Slowly Severus poured the golden liquid down Hermione’s throat. Once the potion was gone, Sirius gently laid Hermione back against the pillows. The two wizards stood off to the side waiting. The potion worked almost instantly.
“Ugh. What…what happened? Why do I feel so weird?” Hermione asked hoarsely as she slowly sat up.
“Thank god!” Severus cried as he sat beside her and pulled her into his arms.
“What’s going on Severus? Why is Sirius here?” she asked as her eyes widened in fear at Sirius seeing Severus hugging her.
“Don’t worry Hermione, I know you two love each other and I won’t breath a word to anyone. I’ll leave you two to talk. I’ll be downstairs in the kitchen Snape, let me know if you need anything,” Sirius smiled as he patted Hermione’s shoulder.
“What the hell did I miss?” Hermione demanded.
