You touch these tired eyes of mine
And map my face out line by line
And somehow growing old feels fine
I listen close for I'm not smart
You wrap you thoughts in works of art

To Enchant a King: Chapter 9

King Lucius stood watching out of his window at the front of the palace, waiting for the famed Seer, Lady Sybil Trelawney, granddaughter of the most famous Seer in the entire wizarding world. It was little after eleven o’clock when her carriage finally pulled into the palace gates. Lucius had been waiting for her for all of three days, in which Hermione had begun to doubt whether she was indeed coming. He hoped she would confirm what he knew in his heart of hearts, that Lady Narcissa’s child was not his. Sir Thomas Riddle had not been seen at court for several days, prompting the presumption that he had been summoned to his father’s estate on business.

When infact Sir Thomas had been staying with the Snapes, trying his best now to distance himself from Lady Narcissa. He knew she had lain with the king even after she had pledged herself to him, there had been several rumours circulating that she had the king’s child in her belly. Sir Thomas knew the truth, it was his child in her belly, not the king’s. He didn’t understand how she could betray him like that, she had told him that she loved him and that she would give up her quest for the king. She had seen the king’s perusal of her sister. He had seen first hand the level of the king’s interest for the younger Granger sister.

Lady Snape had took Tom in with no questions asked. She had seen the forlorn look etched on his face, and chose not to question him in this delicate matter. She could sense the bond between Thomas and the lady whom he had brought with him to their home. She knew Thomas was in love with her, but she wasn’t so sure of Lady Granger’s intentions. Severus had told her of the mystery surrounding the queens death. He had also mentioned that surrounding the body was a unique magical signature, one that he had not encountered before. An innocent had been conceived in that very room, she had wondered if the queen had been with child at the time.

His session with the Seer had not gone well, and Lucius felt positively downcast as he came away from his chambers the following night. Rain poured heavily from the heavens, reflecting the king’s mood. He had been dismayed to find out that one of his own had betrayed him in the worse way. He was racking his confused brain, trying to decipher who on gods earth it could be! He needed to get to the bottom of the situation that currently troubled him, he needed to locate Sir Thomas Riddle, and find some way to get the truth out of him, once and for all. He wasn’t a patient man at most times, but even now Lucius felt he had waited long enough.

He walked silently, flanked by his cousins, and the Lestrange brothers, who in turn where congratulating Draco on the birth of his daughter. Lucius felt as if something was in the air on this night, it felt charged, almost tense, he wondered was he the only one who felt it? A storm was coming…and he was going to be fully prepared when she hit.

The only solace he sought was that of his love, his Hermione. He loved how utterly pure she was, even though he was eager to consummate their love, he knew she was worried what people would think of her, given the current situation, and the rumours circulating the palace. He couldn’t put into words, how he felt when he saw her, it was as if the good lord above had created her just for him. His late wife had been a wonderful confidant and companion, but it was more out of loyalty to his family that he married her, he had not loved her as more than a friend. But never the less, she was the mother of his daughter, and he would always miss her. He loved his daughter more than life itself, and was proud of his little Bella. He knew he had been smiled upon by some deity or god, to have been blessed with such wonderful women in his life.

He nodded to Hermione’s brother Sirius as sat down upon his throne, ready for the royal feast. His eyes sought out the one face he wanted the most, and smiled when he caught her eye. She looked radiant as always, dressed a gown of white and gold, her curls tumbling over her shoulder. Gods, what he wouldn’t give to have her laid out in front of him, ready to be feasted from. He wanted to taste every inch of her smooth, creamy skin. Images of her spread out, begging him to take her haunted his tired mind as he slept, and plagued him when he woke.

He hardened almost instantly, when she brushed a flowing lock of hair away from her face and smiled shyly at him. He licked his lips unintentionally and she blushed. He raised his goblet of wine in her direction, and she repeated the gesture. She then turned her head and carried on speaking to Sir Remus Lupin, who in turn seemed to be greatly amused by the petite girls scarlet cheeks. He watched as she laughed at something he said, and smiled as she playfully smacked his arm.

All of a sudden, the hall went quiet as a small podgy man burst forth, shouting for the king. Lucius barely made out the words he was speaking before it dawned on him what he was being told.

Sir Thomas Riddle had returned to court.

Hermione noticed how pale Narcissa seemed when the little man had practically flew through the hall. She had fanned her face and excused herself almost immediately. Hermione knew it could of only been something of extreme importance, lest the king be interrupted while eating. She only hoped that it was something that could aide their current situation.

Hermione had never yearned for something, like she yearned for the king. He was like walking, talking sin. But until the situation with Narcissa was resolved and found out to be nothing more than lies, she could not give herself to him. But as Sir Remus had suggested brazenly, that didn’t mean she couldn’t do other things….

Tom had never received a royal summons before, but had not really been surprised when he had been ordered to return to court. He knew Narcissa had weaved a tangled web for herself, when he had found out she had told people she was with the king’s child. He didn’t understand the feelings that quelled inside of him, on one hand he felt foolish for sacrificing what he had for her, and on the other he felt such intense passion for her, that it almost frightened him. He had spent several days just thinking about his situation. He knew the king had a right to know just what had gone on, just with a few important facts omitted. In conversation, Severus had mentioned that one of his potions had gone missing from his stores at his home. Tom had immediately put two and two together, and he figured he had guessed quite correctly.

In the beginning it had been just a plot to get to the throne, and Tom had never expected to end up feeling for the woman who had charmed him so very much. He now realised what a fool he had been, dropping like a submissive dog at her feet. Well no more, Sir Thomas Riddle had stared down at the image of love, and laughed in its face. He would never be fooled again.

He was led into the small receiving chamber, where the king was waiting. He noticed he was pacing slightly, only stopping when Tom cleared his throat.

“Ahh, Sir Thomas! It has been a while.” said Lucius as he offered Tom a seat.

“Yes, your Majesty, it has. I was called away to my late fathers estate, on business, no the less. When I received your summons I came immediately. How can I help your Majesty?”

“I would like to know everything about your relationship with Lady Narcissa Granger. I’m sure you are aware of the wicked whispers that are circulating through the palace, and I would like to put an end to them. I am going to ask you some questions and I want you to be honest with me Sir Thomas. Have you laid with her?” asked the king.

“Several times, your Majesty.” replied Sir Thomas.

“Hermione seems to think that the child that lives in her sisters stomach is yours.”

“I am more than certain it is. I have only discovered she was with child a mere few days ago. I knew straight away the babe was mine.”

“When was the first time you took Narcissa?” he asked.

“Little over three months ago.”

Lucius was not prepared for that answer. It shocked him that someone like Sir Thomas could fall for the brazen charms of an all to apparent slattern. He wondered how many other men she had fooled.

“What do you intended to do with her?” asked Lucius.

“I am asking you, as my king, and as the ruler of this country to decide how she should be dealt with. My only request is that she be allowed to carry the child to full time, and then she is yours to do as you wish.”

“You wish to raise the child yourself?” he asked.

“Most definitely, your Majesty. He or she is the next Riddle heir. Regardless of it being a bastard.”

“I will consider what you ask, but let it be known, she has committed treason against crown and country. She has conspired to ensnare the throne using deceitful means. Not to mention the shame she will bring on her family. It is only their unblemished reputation that will save them in the eyes of the court.”

“I understand completely, your Majesty. I will do anything to secure the truth from her, as your Majesty commands.” said Riddle.

“Your word is as good as your honour, Sir Thomas. You have yet to let me down.”

“I hope never to, my king.”

“I will have serious words with the Granger family about Narcissa’s behaviour, and have my decision to you by the end of the week. You have my word that your child will not be harmed.” said Lucius.

“I thank you, your Majesty.”

“It is I, who should be thanking you.” he said as he shook Sir Thomas’ hand.

“It is a more than fitting punishment.” agreed Alexander.

“But is it fair to the child, to take it’s mother away?” asked Draco.

“Excuse his wetness, Lu, it’s the papa in him.” laughed Alexander.

“He does have a point.” replied Lucius.

“But the child wont be without parents. Sir Thomas Riddle is more than capable of caring for the child.” said Alexander.

“I will not kill her, I don’t think Hermione would want that.” said Lucius.

“As I said, the first is the most fitting punishment.” replied Alexander.

“I will put it to Cardinal Weasley tomorrow, he shall preside over the final judgement. He has always shown a fair and true nature when it comes to matters such as this.” said Lucius.

“I still can’t believe it’s true.” said Draco as he shook his head.

“You want to think yourself lucky, that Hermione is normal.” laughed Alexander.

“I think you will be referring to her as our Queen, soon enough.” said Draco.

“The odds are more than favourable.” laughed Lucius.

If he had his way, he would make her his queen that very night.
