A Day In The Life

CHAPTER 9: A Day In The Life

Remus and Hermione lay side by side on their stomachs in his bed. It was early morning and they had been awake all night. Remus was slowly sliding his palm over the smooth, cool skin of her back as they rested their heads on the same pillow, their noses almost touching. He had lost count of their passionate bouts sometime after midnight. They had taken one another again and again yet still he wanted her, craved her.

“You look exhausted.” She said softly, her lips brushing against his as she spoke.

“I don’t think I have ever stayed up all night making love before. I think I can say without a doubt that I AM in fact completely knackered.” He said, smiling slightly. “Yet I want you still.”

Hermione smiled and reached up to push his hair back from his forehead, her fingers trailing over a faded scar.

“It still seems strange to me, finding this passion with you.” She said.

“I wasn’t expecting it either. Never even considered it before the wedding.” Remus pushed the sheet lower and stroked his hand over her rounded bottom and then back up again.

“I like being with you, Remus. I don’t feel like I have to pretend.” She said, her eyes drooping slightly.

“You never have to be anything but yourself with me, you should know that by now.” He kissed the tip of her nose.

“Why is it so easy between us?” She was nearly asleep and moved closer to him, wanting to feel his warmth soaking into her.

“I don’t know, I’m not going to question it anymore. You said it perfectly, there is no need to make it complicated, let’s just see what happens.” He said.

“People are going to have a fit if they find out, you know that right?” She smiled, her eyes already closed.

“We will deal with them when and if they do. For now let’s just enjoy each other.”

“I like that, just you and me, secret lovers.” Her words were barely a whisper as sleep claimed her just as the sun came up. Remus pulled the covers up over them and tugged the cord on his drapes to block out the light. With Hermione nestled in his arms he followed her into sleep.

It was early morning, but Ron didn’t really care as he let himself into his sister and best mate’s house. He knew they tended to rise early and wasn’t surprised to find them sitting in their kitchen having breakfast.

“Ron, what are you doing here so early and why didn’t you knock?” Ginny asked, glaring at him as he sprawled lazily into one of the kitchen chairs.

“Sorry, was I interrupting?” He asked, snatching a banana from the basket in the center of the table.

“No, not this time, but you might want to try using some manners in the future, assuming you still have any.” Ginny said, sipping her tea.

“Why are you here so early?” Harry asked.

“I want to know what’s going on with Mione.” He said with his mouth full.

“What do you mean?” Harry asked, buttering his toast.

“She’s different now. She looks…..well she looks beautiful, she’s dressing up, fixing her hair and wearing makeup…..she never did that before.” Ron said, wondering why Harry and Ginny were smiling at one another in such an odd way.

“Quite frankly Ron, it’s none of your business, you aren’t together anymore and that was your decision, remember?” Harry said over his coffee.

“Well, maybe I’m rethinking that decision now.” Ron muttered. Ginny looked up, her blue eyes flashing with anger.

“Oh no you don’t Ronald Weasley! You stay away from her, far, far away from her if you want to continue calling yourself a man.” Ginny tossed her napkin on to the table and stood up, her fists braced on the table top. “She is happy and she is moving on! She’s over you, get it? OVER YOU! You didn’t see what you had while you had her, that’s your loss. Did you think she was just going to sit around and wait for you?”

“Well….yeah, I suppose I did. I mean come on, it’s Hermione, and it’s not like she’s a party girl and aside from going to the dance with Krum she never dated anyone but me. She loves me.” He said rather arrogantly.

“Not anymore.” Harry said quietly. “You’ve lost her, Ron, and the sooner you accept it the better.”

“So she is seeing someone?” Ron asked quietly. “Who is it?”

“If she wants people to know I suppose she will tell them.” Harry said.

“I went by her house last night and she wasn’t there. She wasn’t there this morning either.” Ron said his stomach turning at the thought of his Hermione with another man.

“That’s her business and no longer yours.” Harry had seen her leave with Remus and had a sneaking suspicion that she had spent the night with him at his house.

“I fucked up didn’t I?” Ron asked quietly, wondering how he could have let things go so wrong.

“Yeah, you did.” Harry answered. Though he was sorry to see his friend hurting he knew that Ron was not what was best for Hermione, that had become crystal clear recently. “Let her go, mate, and be happy for her. There is nothing else you can do now.”

Remus was trying to proofread the latest chapters of his book before sending it off to the editor, but he was failing miserably. He and Hermione had finally crawled from his bed just after noon and shared the shower. Though they had been less focused on getting clean and more concerned with the pleasure they found in the slick glide of skin on skin.

He hadn’t bothered to actually dress, instead he pulled on a pair of knit sleep pants and an old tee while Hermione had opted to wear nothing but his old, worn cardigan jumper. He sat in the kitchen and watched her make them lunch, her soft curves outlined by the thin knitted material.

Now she was curled up on the end of the sofa, the jumper pulled over her knees as she read a book. She wasn’t trying to distract him, wasn’t being deliberately enticing or provocative, but none the less, he was completely enthralled by her. He set the manuscript down and watched her lips move slightly as she read.

“What has you so interested?” He asked.

“The History of Werewolf Wizards.” She said, turning the page without looking up.

“Do you ever read anything that isn’t a reference book? Do you read fiction at all?” He asked. Hermione lowered the book and stared at him as he reclined into the corner of the sofa.

“I read your books and the occasional romance.” She answered honestly. “But primarily I like to read something that can expand my mind. One can never attain too much knowledge.” She noticed that he had set his work aside and so she laid the book on his coffee table. “What interests you, Remus?”

“You and the fact that you are completely naked beneath that jumper.” His lids lowered and his voice became rough and gravelly.

“I think we have already set a record, Remus, between last night and earlier in the shower……I’m beginning to think you are insatiable.” She said, crawling across the cushions and into his lap.

“Only with you.” He told her, pulling her tight into his chest and kissing her as he slid down to lay flat on the sofa and make love to the little witch who was quickly burrowing under his skin.
