Engagement

Once Hermione and Ginny returned from the dressmaker it was time to wait for the boys to escort them to dinner. Ginny continually brushed the soft wisps of curl left out of her French knot away from her eyes and Hermione twisted and untwisted her handkerchief. They wore identical dresses in different colors, Hermione in blue and silver and Ginny in a dark green that matched her eyes. They both looked up expectantly when the door opened and the boys appeared.

Draco wore black dress robes over a blue shirt with a silver tie, and Blaise wore green with silver. Both had jewelry boxes for the girls.

“Hermione, you look stunning. I have something important to give you.” Draco said.
Hermione walked over to him and smiled weakly.

“This is the Malfoy engagement necklace. We do not share rings as engagement symbols because they are too easily lost and have a different meaning in the wizarding world.” He said, opening the box to reveal a silver chain with a dragon on the end. The dragon was in flight and holding a beautiful emerald in his front claws. He had sapphires for eyes as well, but the important jewel was the emerald. Hermione gasped.

“Draco that is beautiful. I couldn’t possibly accept that from you, it is too precious for someone like me.” She said.

“Nonsense, as my fiancé it belongs to you.” Draco insisted, “You must willingly take it from the box and allow me to put it on for you. That is the only way that the magic will work.”

Hermione took the necklace out of the box and handed it to Draco before turning and pulling her hair out of the way. Draco smiled and put the necklace on her.

“No one can remove the necklace without your sincere permission. You have to truly want them to remove it, so imperious will not work. The necklace also cannot be replicated, so no one will be able to impersonate you even with Polyjuice Potion.” Draco said.

“Why are there such strict restrictions about removing the necklace?” Hermione asked.

“Because as long as you are wearing the necklace I can tell if you are hurt or in trouble, or if you are just upset about something. It also allows me to find you no matter where you are, so that no one can keep you from me. Once you take the necklace off the engagement is broken, and can never be redone. There are extreme circumstances where you can remove the necklace, which we can go over later.” Draco responded.

Meanwhile…

Blaise walked over to Ginny and pulled her away from the other couple.
“This bracelet is for you, it signifies that we are officially engaged. Have you heard of the Malfoy engagement necklace?”

Ginny’s eyes widened, and she looked over at Hermione who by this time was wearing the necklace.
“Yes, every pureblood witch knows about that jewel.”

“Well, the Zabinis also have an engagement charm, which you wouldn’t know about since I’m Italian. Here, open this.” He handed her the box. Ginny opened it to find a stunning gold bracelet, with Italian engraved in the sides meeting at a beautiful black diamond panther. The clasp looked very simple, but Ginny guessed immediately that it would be similar to the Malfoy Necklace and be impossible for anyone other than her to remove.

“It is the same thing as the Malfoy necklace. I have to put it on you, but no one can take it off save for you.”

“Blaise, I don’t know what to say. I didn’t think that there would actually be engagement charms for Hermione and I…” Ginny said, allowing Blaise to clasp the bracelet around her wrist.

“Of course there are. This is real Ginny, not a game, and not just a way for you to get protection. We will have a wedding ceremony, and one day we will have children.” Blaise said.

Once the girls had their engagement charms on and they were ready to enter, the boys took them by the elbows and Draco pushed open the door…

*************************************************************************************
Sorry for the short chapter everyone! I just got back into writing again and need some time to decide how the dinner chapter is going to go. I realize that I’ve drawn this one day out for a while, but the Dinner is VERY important for the story, and there is a lot that has to be addressed in that chapter.
I also wanted to mention that I have 2 original stories in the Original section, The Infidelity and The Testing. I’d love some reviews for them, the first one has been there almost a year and I haven’t gotten any feedback at all for it.
I’ll try to update before next week, please review!
