Hitting The Trail

The next morning the teens gather early for breakfast and check the Daily Prophet. As Hermione reads the section on the election Hunter can't help but smile.

The conference went as well as they had hoped and Arthur handled himself superbly and stuck to the speech they had prepared. Their first fundraiser was arranged for that Saturday and as promised, they were permitted to attend.

"Naturally we need to prepare his next speech," Hunter began. "Neville, you and Cho will work on that." He turns to the others. "We need to go over the playlist and effects for the concert Saturday and I'll write the others about what to do next." He hands them each several flyers to pass out to the other students before they go to their classes.

Back in the common room Hunter, Ron and Harry continue discussing the election. "We need to line up a few guest speakers for the fund raiser. I know Dumbledore will be alright but I’m not sure about Moody.”

Ron laughs, "Yeah he might mistake the microphone for a trap."

"How about asking Madame Bones to say a few words?" Harry inquires.

"That's actually a good idea," Hunter agrees. "Her support along with that of a few Aurors would lend credibility to our platform about public safety."

"I know Tonks and Shacklebolt will be glad to say a few words." Ron adds. Harry says that he'll also speak on Arthur's behalf and Hunter says he'll talk with Dumbledore during his next break about getting the other speakers lined up. They also decide on having a silent auction to help raise a little extra money for the cause.

While the others are in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Hunter goes to the Headmaster's office and finds Dumbledore talking with Remus and Sirius. "Just the men I needed to talk to," he says to the adults.

He lays out the strategy that they came up with and the men agree. "I need someone to go around Diagon Alley and see if you can get the shop owners to donate some stuff for the silent auction for the fund raisers. This should help generate some more funds for the campaign."

"Consider it done." Remus says with a smile.

"I'll take a look around the house," Sirius offers. "If I find anything we think might go for a decent price we'll use it."

Hunter nods as he goes over his mental list. "Okay so we've got the location, the band and the silent auction in the works. I need you to line up a few guest speakers," he tells Dumbledore. "Harry's already agreed to do it and we'd like for you and Madame Bones to say a few words as well as seeing if a few of the Aurors in the Order would also speak on Arthur's behalf."

"I believe that Shacklebolt is in charge of Arthur's security detail." Dumbledore tells him. "I shall ask him if he wouldn't mind saying a few words at the event." They said their goodbyes as Hunter left for Transfiguration.

The next evening Hunter and others go over their performance and work on what the speakers should say during their speeches. It suddenly occurs to Hunter that they had not even considered the topic of Werewolf rights. He mentions it to them and asks for their opinions

"This is going to be a sore spot," Hermione points out. "Especially with Voldermort current activities."

"I know," Hunter admits. "But we still need to address it."

"The best course of action would have to be to address the matter head on." Ron says. "We can't deny that the current system is flawed and creates too much resentment between werewolves and the rest of Wizard World. The laws have to be changed before more flock to his side."

"I agree," Cho responds. "We have to remind the voters that it's irresponsible and dangerous to allow these laws to continue to serve as a means for Voldermort to recruit more werewolves to his side. We have to tell people that by removing this temptation we can ensure that many werewolves would remain neutral if given the option. By removing this threat it will be even harder for Voldermort to find followers."

Katie voices her opinion next. "What we have to do is make them see how dangerous the current system is while at the time avoiding alienating those that prefer to see werewolves treated as second class citizens. At the same time we have to make the werewolves see that they have other options foe finding the freedoms and rights they desire."

"Basically," Harry interrupts. "We have to promise to review the laws and revise where needed without specifying which laws we want to change or get rid of. Keep things as vague as possible while at the same time reminding everyone of the importance of removing this threat hanging over our heads."

Hunter can't help but laugh at how silly the whole thing seems to him. "You guys are simply amazing." He goes over the list for the silent auction Professor McGonagall handed him during dinner and sees that they have several items from the house as well as a many more the shop owners donated.

Hunter is amazed at just how many of them donated items for the auction on such short notice. He's also amazed at how many made cash donations as well. Looking over his list it is obvious just how many support Arthur’s campaign and are fed up with Fudge's incompetence.

"Well given the current guest list and items being offered we should do pretty well." He turns to Neville and Cho. "How are the speeches coming along?

"They'll be ready by tomorrow," Neville says looking up from his writting. "Hopefully, we get our points across without alienating anyone."

"Good," Hunter says, "We'll need all the votes we can get." He turns to Ron and Harry. "How are things going with the students?"

Ron has a huge grin on his face as he answers. "Better then we could have hoped," he laughs. "We were talking to a few of the seventh years when Umbridge walked by and confiscated everything we had. There should be a new Decree posted by morning."

Hunter laughs loudly as the others look confused. "That is perfect, I'll have Dobby get us more."

"I'm lost here," Carla tells them. "If they're going to be banned then why are you happy?"

"She did the one thing that could ensure everyone in school reads them." Hunter informs her. "By banning the flyers she's make sure everyone will read them once they get them."

The others join the laughter. "This is going better then we could have ever hoped." Ginny says. "With as badly as Fudge messed up we may actually have a chance of winning this thing."

"It won't be that easy," Hunter cautions them. "But this does work to our advantage." He grins as he gets another idea. "I'll ask Professor McGonagall to speak with Madame Rosmerta about a student rally for our next show."

Hunter looks back to Ron and Harry. "You guys spread the word about the rally and I'll get the merchandise from Fred and George. Make sure everyone shows up, especially those of legal age."

"Consider it done mate." Ron says with a grin.
