Midnight Adventures

Author's Note: Finally my creative juices are flowing. Here is the next chapter. I hope you all enjoy it. I made it super long to make up for how short the last chapter was. I finally got over the the hump that all stories had and already have some ideas written down for the next few chapters.

A bit of warning though. There is a small amount of animal abuse in this chapter. Its not extremely graphic so don't worry about it. There is no details about body parts or anything and there is no blood. It is strictly for learning purposes. I do not, in anyway, think that animal abuse is funny or right. Just to clear the air and give you guys a heads up!

Okay, hope you enjoy the story!

Let the Bad Parts In
Chapter Eight: Midnight Adventures

"Just great….just my fucking luck!" Hermione muttered as she looked out the window of the Head's Common Room. It was half past midnight and it had just begun to snow. The window fogged up from her breath and then faded to show the reflection of a very agitated teenage witch. "Of all the days it had to snow, it just HAD to be this one." With a sigh she walked away from the window and went up to her room.

She shut the door and walked over to her dresser. She pulled out a pair of jeans, a long sleeve shirt, a black turtle neck and her winter traveling cloak. She laid them all out of her bed and then quickly performed a warming charm all of them. She then transfigured her regular school shoes into dark snow boots.

Satisfied with her boots and clothes she walked over to her desk and sat down. She pulled the Marauder's Map out of the top drawer and unfolded it. "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." She said in a low voice and tapped the blank parchment with the tip of her wand.

Hermione studied the map for about a half an hour before folding it back up. She did not clear it because she knew that Draco would have to see the map, but did not want him to know how to use it. She'd make sure he'd keep his promise using a Wizard's Oath.

'Simple enough.' Hermione thought to herself.

She glanced at the clock and saw she still had about an hour or so until Draco was due to arrive back in the Common Room. When she last checked the map he was still patrolling in the Dungeons. She ignored the fact that he seemed to be only patrolling the girl's dormitory. She figured that since she had some time left she could get some extra studying done for her N.E.W.T.S.

The next time Hermione glanced at the clock it was ten to Two o'clock. She quickly got up from her desk and changed into the outfit she picked out before. After she dressed she ran over to the corner of her room and opened up her trunk. She grabbed Harry's cloak and folded it over her arm followed by her winter cloak to cover it. She took the folded map and stuck it in her back pocket, out of Draco's sight. She picked up her wand and headed out the door.

The clock just struck two when she entered the common area that she shared with Draco. He was standing by the fire wearing dark pants and a dark green turtle neck with his wand sticking out of his back pocket, and his hair slicked back like old times. He turned to look at her and smirked.

"So where are we off to, teacher?" he asked in his slow drawl.

Hermione drew her wand and pointed it at him and watched his eyes widen for a split second and then narrow. "You'll see soon enough, but first I need something from you." She said, keeping her arm steady with her wand pointed at his heart.

"Oh really?" he asked. "Like what, may I ask?" he folded his arms across his chest and stared her straight in the eye. He knew she could hex his ass to the next centuary before he could even attempt to get his wand and he couldn't trust his wandless magic yet.

"I want a Wizard's Oath from you." She nonchalantly. "Just necessary precautions, you understand of course." She felt a smirk playing on her lips. She liked this feeling of being in control.

"Promising what?" he asked skeptically, glancing her up and down. "I think I have the right to know what I'm promising."

Hermione shrugged, still keeping her wand pointed at his chest. "Just repeat after me or I'll Oblivate your mind and tell everyone what you're up to. I'll get off scott free and you'll be put in Azkaban and wait for the Dementor's Kiss."

Draco stood still and quickly weighed his options. The chances of knocking the wand out of her hand and Oblivating her first before she could curse him seemed slim to none. He swallowed his pride and prayed to all that was magic that he was making the right choice. Worst case scenario he would just oblivate her while she was sleeping and go about his daily life as if nothing ever happened.

"Fine." He said with a defeated sigh.

"I swear to never speak of the Invisibility Cloak or the Marauder's Map with any other being, besides Hermione Granger." Her spoke with a slow and clear voice.

Draco reached back into his back pocket slowly, while his other hand was raised. "Just gonna get my wand to do the Oath, don't do anything rash Hermione." He said slowly. He reached for his wand and pointed it at Hermione's.

Both tips of the wands glowed a bright gold and then connected by a beam. "I, Draco Guerrier Malfoy, swear a Wizard's Oath to never speak of the Invisibility Cloak or the Marauder's Map with any other being, besides Hermione Granger." Draco said with a clear voice and then the beam glowed brightly, expanded, and then disappeared in a shower of golden sparks.

Once the sparks died they both lowered their wands and put them away. Draco quickly marched over to Hermione, his eyes narrowed and dark steel gray. Hermione was taken back by his actions and started backing up as he got closer. Suddenly she felt the cold stone wall up against her back and Malfoy was just a foot away from her. She tried to move out of the way but he grabbed her arm and pushed her up against he wall again. He put both of his hands on either side of her head and glared down on her.
"Don't you EVER put me that position again!" He barked out through clenched teeth. He dipped his head down so he was about eye level with her. "Do I make myself clear?" he asked in a low voice.

Adrenaline rushed through Hermione's veins as he had her pined against the wall. She wasn't sure if was from the excitement she felt of having him this close to her or the fact that she severely pissed him off. She didn't want him to know that she was, in fact, a little intimidated by him so she straightened up her shoulders and looked him in the eye.

"You know it had to be done. Its valuable information that I'm not willing to let wander around without my knowledge. Its better than my first plan. Originally I was planning on just Oblivating you once we got back to the Common Room and telling you later that I thought you learned enough and then move on to the other part of our deal.

But I thought you would appreciate the fact that I'm giving you an ounce of trust, showing you that I'm not just leading you on some wild goose chase that will end up with your pureblood ass in Azkaban."

Draco leaned in close enough that Hermione could feel his breath on her lips. 'Why in Merlin's beard is he starting this now.' She thought to herself.

"Fine, I'll let it slide this time, but next time I won't take it so lightly." He said and stepped back and looked at her. "You know," he started with a smirk. "I think you might just make a decent Death Eater. Plus you look good in black. You should wear it more often."

Hermione smiled at the compliment and felt a sense of ease wash over her. 'At least he didn't forget about his end of the deal.' She thought to herself. "Thanks, Draco."

He ran his hand over his hand to flatten his perfectly styled hair. "So what's with this cloak and map thing you made me swear not to talk about?" he asked.

Hermione walked over to the near by desk and put the cloaks down and reached in her back pocket and unfolded the Marauder's Map. "This," she said as she placed the map on the desk. "is the one and only Marauder's Map. It shows you the entire grounds of Hogwarts and some places in Hogsmeade. It shows secret passages ways, passwords for them, and the exact locations of every person in Hogwarts. It is truly brilliant and is quite useful."

Draco walked over behind Hermione and glanced over her shoulder, his hands resting on her hips. "See," she pointed to the area labeled "Head Common Room". "here we are." Next to the portrait door was located were two dots labeled "Draco Malfoy" and "Hermione Granger".

"This is brilliant. Simply brilliant. Did you make this?" asked Draco as his eyes traveled over the map.

"No, it was passed down through friends, you could say." She explained as she stepped away from Draco. "But this is my favorite, has been for years actually." Hermione reached over and uncovered the Invisibility Cloak and held it up for Draco to see.

"It just looks like an old ratty cloak to me." He shrugged.

Hermione smiled and threw it around herself and disappeared. "That's what we first thought too. But you can never judge a book by its cover." Hermione laughed as she watched Draco look around for her. She pulled the cloak of her head and laughed. "Are you ready?"

Draco grinned. "I'm always ready." He walked over the coach and wrapped his winter cloak around himself and pulled his wand out of his back pocket. Hermione uncovered the herself with the Invisibility Cloak and then put on her winter cloak also and picked up the map.

Very awkwardly they moved through the dark halls of Hogwarts following the map, which Draco held. He was having a field day with it and was making fun of the people he was watch. An example was how Snape was in the bathroom ever since they left the Common Room and Draco deemed it necessary to make up all kinds of extremely gross and detailed stories about what he was doing in there, much to Hermione's displeasure.

"Draco, you need to be quiet and hunch over a bit. You're too tall and our feet are showing."

Draco snorted and hunched down lower. "My back is starting to hurt, are we there yet?" he whined.

Hermione just rolled her eyes. "You're acting like a First Year for Merlin's sake!" she muttered under her breath.

Finally they made it to the front doors of the school and walked out towards the grounds. Hermione stopped them and turned around so she was facing the school. "Okay this is going to be tricky but head to the Forbidden Forest and I'm going to clean up our tracks, okay." Draco nodded in agreement.

After ten minutes of walking, some tumbling, a few curses, and one embarrassing fall, they finally made it into the Forbidden Forest. Hermione threw the cloak off of them and folded it up and hung it over her arm.

"Okay follow me and stay quiet. Hagrid's hut just over there and we don't want to wake him or his dog up." Hermione grabbed his hand and started walking into the forest. Once they were far enough in that it was almost completely dark and she could no longer see Hagrid's hut did she mutter "Lumos" and light her wand.

"Where are we going Hermione?" asked Draco after they walked for fifteen minutes. He was glancing at the map every now and then but couldn't see where they were going.

"There is a clearing over here. I just want to make sure we're far enough in that no one will interrupt." A few moments later the couple stumbled into a dark clearing. "Okay we're here. Draco could you transfigure that rock into a lantern, please?"

"Yea, sure thing." Draco waved his wand and the rock floated into the air and transformed into a iron lantern. Hermione quickly muttered "Nox" to douse the light of her wand, then put up a silencing charm around the clearing, and turned to Draco.

"Okay, so this is the final part of your lessons. If you pass this then you're done with your training and the most you can do is just practice as much as you can from this. What you need to do is cast then three Unforgivable Curses using your wandless magic." Hermione pointed her wand at a rock and transfigured it into a rabbit. "Okay, first one is the Imperius Curse." She held out her hand and Draco handed over his wand to her. "I want you to concentrate. Clear you mind of all thoughts and just relax.

Draco struggled for a few minutes and Hermione was starting to get worried. "Just relax Draco." She took a step back to give him more room. "Just concentrate on the spell. Breath in through your nose and out the through you mouth. You can do this, Draco." She coach him calmly. Secretly she was worried that she was testing him too soon and they couldn't stay out her much longer.

Just when she was about to tell him to stop and that they will pick up again another day did the rabbit stop hopping around. It stayed perfectly still and looked directly at Draco. Then it leaned back so it was on its back legs and started to tap dance. Draco made it dance for five minutes before he broke the spell and relaxed. He wiped the some sweet off his forehead and turned to look at Hermione.

"How was that?" he asked her.

Hermione smiled at him proudly. "Wonderful. It'll get easier the more your practice it. Now I want you try and use the Cruciatus Curse. Take a deep breath and relax, if you want to take a few moments to regain yourself its okay. The trick is to just relax and concentrate on the spell."

Draco nodded and narrowed his eyes. It took less time for him to first get the curse to work. The rabbit stopped eating and feel over and started twitching. Draco relaxed and stopped the charm and took a breath. He then went back to concentrating on the curse again. Hermione remained silent the entire time, afraid of breaking his concentration. The curse came upon the rabbit more quickly this time and it fell over and started thrashing around on the ground. Its eyes were bulging and it was squealing in pain.

Hermione looked from the tortured animal to Draco then back again. It was then that Hermione realized what was going on. She walked over to Draco and placed her hand on his shoulder and said in a calm voice. "Draco let it go. You don't want to kill it now. Let it go." Draco blinked a few times and stared blankly at the rabbit that was panting on the ground a few yards in front of him. "Are you okay?" When he didn't respond Hermione asked again, worry clear in her voice .She was afraid that she pushed him too far in such a short time.

Draco seemed to recognize her voice and shook his head. "Yea I’m fine. It was just….weird."

Hermione smiled at him, still a little bit worried. "Do you want to sit down for a second and calm yourself down? I don't want you to over do yourself."

Draco rotated his right shoulder popping the kinks out of it and then smoothed his hair down. "I think I'm okay. I just want to get this over with. It's freezing out here."

"Okay, if you're sure then." Hermione took a few steps back, making sure she was several feet away behind him and out of his range. "On my count okay? Remember you have to mean it. Ready? One…two…three!"

Hermione wasn't sure what she was expecting to see. She knew from her research that there shouldn't be a blinding light like when a wand was used. There seemed to be a faded version of the green light coming from between Draco and the rabbit and as quickly as it appeared it was gone.

She stayed still and quiet, deciding to let him make the first move. She didn't want to startle him and cause something to go wrong if the spell was still taking place. Finally Draco seemed to snap out of the daze he was in. He rubbed his eyes and ran his hand over his still prefect hair.

"Did I…did I do it?" he asked with an edge in his voice.
Hermione glanced over at the lifeless body of the rabbit.

"Yea, its dead." She looked at Draco again and smiled. "Congratulations Draco Malfoy you've passed Hermione's School of Wandless Magic." She teased.

"Really?" Draco said with a shock. "I really did it?"

Hermione laughed at the expression on his face. "Yes Draco you passed. The most you can do now is just practice it as much as you can to sharpen your skills."

Then Draco did something that Hermione wasn't expecting. He closed the gap between them quickly and then picked her up by the waist and spun her around. He pulled her in then kissed her hard on the mouth. Hermione closed her eyes and leaned into the kiss. Her arms snaked their way around his neck and played with the soft hairs at the nape of his neck.

When they finally pulled apart they were both breathing a little heavy. Draco leaned back and pushed one of Hermione's stray curls behind her ear. She was taken back at his sudden change of demeanor.

"We should get back to the Common Room. Its getting late and its getting colder by the second." Hermione suggested as she glanced around the clearing, looking anywhere expect were Draco was.

Weren't they supposed to go about their daily lives and act as if nothing sexual happened between them? Did this count? What the fuck were they doing anyways? Did she even care?

"Yea, you're right. Come on, let's go back to the Common Room." Draco said, sensing her slight discomfort.

They're trip back to the Common Room seemed to be ten times shorter and with a lighter mood. They almost took a short cut to the Dungeons to see what Snape was really up to because, as Draco so kindly pointed out, he was still in the bathroom. Then Hermione pointed out that Peeves was down there too and it would be to much of a risk to go down there.

When they finally made it through the portrait hole they took off the Invisibility Cloak and Hermione took the Cloak and the map up to her room. After she cleared the map she locked both objects into her trunk to make sure Draco would not be able to get them and then went back downstairs.

Draco was sitting on the coach by the fire with his boots propped up on the coffee table in front of them. In his hand was a bottle of Fire Whiskey. Hermione got the sudden feeling of déjà vu', but decided to go against what her gut told her and sat down next to Draco.

"You did very well tonight." She started as she curled up on the coach and played with one of her curls.

He got a smug look on his face and with the flick of his wrist turned the two glass candle holders in to two wine glasses. Then he poured them each a full glass of the Fire Whiskey and then handed one to her. Hermione looked at the glass skeptically.

"Draco," she warned.

He rolled his eyes and pushed the cup into her hands. "I'm not trying to get you drunk again Hermione. Trust me. It's just one glass for celebration. You don't even have to drink the entire thing if you don't want to."

Hermione smile and held her glass up for a toast. "To the future." She toasted.

Draco gave her his trademark smirk and raised his glass. "May we all get what we want."

They tapped their glasses together and drank, their eyes never leaving each other.
