Chapter 9: A Change For The Snape’s

            The next
morning Hermione found herself in the bathroom, throwing up. She hadn’t had
anything to eat so she knew that she shouldn’t feel ill. When she had finished
emptying her stomach contents she conjured a glass of water and drank it,
trying to get the horrible taste out of her mouth. Five minutes later she was
back throwing up.

            Hermione
decided to go into Muggle London and get one of those tests that told you if
you were pregnant. Since it didn’t run by electricity then she didn’t have to
worry about it messing up. When she returned she went into the bathroom to
check. As she waited she wondered what she was going to tell Severus and how
the board was going to take it. She hoped they didn’t fire him.

            Hermione
checked her watch and saw that it was time. She looked at the stick and it
showed that she was pregnant. Hermione felt a small bubble forming filled with excitement.
She was going to be a mother. She was carrying a real baby in her. She broke
down and cried for joy.

   “What do you mean
Hermione isn’t going to be returning for her final year,” Arthur said to
Dumbledore when he told him.

   “That’s what I’m
telling you,” he said. “Your son must have said something horrible to Hermione
to make her not want to return.”

Arthur sighed and then told him what Ron, Harry, and Ginny
had said to Hermione when she told them.

   “What am I going to
do?” Arthur asked. “I mean, Ron hasn’t returned yet, and now Hermione isn’t
going to return for her final year. This summer is turning out to be horrible.”

Dumbledore nodded.

   “Is there anyway to
get her to change her mind?”

   “I’m afraid not,”
he said. “Hermione has a mind of her own and she doesn’t think that she can
live in the castle with so many people pointing their fingers at her. I agree;
I couldn’t live like that.”

   “So what are you
going to do?”

   “Owl her her
lessons,” Dumbledore said. “The staff has all agreed that she can do that. She’ll
return to do her N.E.W.T’s when it’s time.”

   “Can she do that?”

Dumbledore nodded.

            Hermione
wrote to her parents telling them of the wonderful news that they were soon to
be grandparents. She knew they would be excited about this. She also wrote a
letter to Mrs. Weasley, telling her the same thing. Hermione then left the shop
and headed to St. Mungo to get her first tests done. She had read that the
hospital would test the womb for possible magic so that she could have the
option of having the child aborted. Hermione shivered at that thought.

            She arrived
at the hospital just in-time and meet up with a wonderful Healer that did her
usual tests, making her feel comfortable. Finally she did the test to see if
the child would be magical and she wrote down the results.

   “Well.”

   “Your child will
have magic,” the Healer told her.

Hermione could have jumped for joy if she wasn’t lying down.

   “Are you planning
on telling the father?” the Healer asked her.

   “Yes, I am,” she
said. “Oh, he’s going to be so happy.”

The Healer smiled at her.

   “I bet he will.”

            Hermione
left the hospital and then went back to Hogsmead. She found Severus helping
Remus out with some bottles that had been brought in. She smiled sweetly at
Remus and then turned to Severus.

   “Severus, honey,
can we talk?” she asked.

He gave her a strange look, but Hermione kept on smiling.

“Um, is this bad? class=GramE>Because it’s usually bad when you keep on smiling like that.”

Hermione giggled.

   “No it’s not bad,”
she told him. ‘It’s very, very, good.”

She then motioned him to follow her and they let Remus
behind.

   “Thanks for letting
me spend the night here,” Ron told Madam Rosmerta.

   “No problem,” she
said. “But I think that you need to return home.”

Ron sighed, knowing that she was right. He bid her goodbye
and then disapperated.

            When he
returned home he saw that both Weasley’s were looking excited about something.
They ignored him, Mrs. Weasley now giggling.

   “Oh it’s about
time,” she said to her husband. “Oh this is so exciting.”

   “What’s exciting?”
Ron asked.

Mr. Weasley turned and glared at his son.

   “So I see that you’ve
decided to return,” he said.

   “Ya,” he said.

   “Arthur, we’ve got
to get her something for the baby?” Molly said.

   “B-Baby,
what bloody baby?”
Ron snapped.

Both glared at him, but his mother spoke.

   “The baby that
Severus and Hermione are having,” she told him. “The one that
in eleven years will be joining at Hogwarts as a student.”

   “Like bloody hell
that thing is going to Hogwarts,” Ron snapped.

His mother crossed her arms and looked at him.

   “And what are you
going to do about it.”

Ron could think of a thousand reasons and they all ended in
death. But he didn’t say anything like that.

   “Oh this is so
exciting,” Mrs. Granger told her husband. “Were going to be
grandparents.”

Mr. Granger laughed at that.

   “What do you think
we should do?”

   “Give them all the
room they need,” he said. “I’m sure their going to need it after the baby’s
born.”

   “Let’s just hope
the board doesn’t give them any problems.”

Her husband sighed.

   “I hope not either.”

111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

   “So what do you
want to talk to me about?” Severus asked Hermione when she led him to the back
room.

Hermione sighed, feeling as though the butterflies were now
having a rock concert in her stomach.

   “Severus, I’m
pregnant,” Hermione said.

He stared at her, shocked and Hermione was waiting for him
to react or say something. Suddenly he threw his arms around her and twirled
her around.

   “Oh this is great,”
he said. “When are you due?”

   “Um, the Healer
didn’t tell me,” Hermione said.

   “How far along are
you?”

   “The Healer didn’t
tell me that either.”

He stared at her.

   “What kind of
Healer is she?” he asked her. “Let’s see when did you start getting sick?”

   “Today.”

   “And we were
together a little over a week ago and this is July,” he said, doing some calculations
in his head. “Your due in April.”

Hermione stared at him.

   “How are you able
to do that?”

He laughed.

   “I’m good at math,”
he told her, grinning. “You’re not the only one that got a Muggle education.”

Hermione grinned.

Note: Now the cats out of the bag. Next chapter: The journey
