Chapter nine

“Hermione, Lucius, Barty, Draco, Avery and Severus, you will come with me, the rest of you spread out and find them.” Voldemort ordered.

Hermione took hold of Draco’s hand and led him to the portkey. They all held on tight as they felt the pull behind their navel. Landing in a clearing, they brushed themselves off and put their masks on.

Hermione held her wand at Draco’s back, pushing him to go forward. Hermione looked around for the street she knew they would go to. They were in Godric’s Hollow.

“Okay, voices down, wands at the ready.” Voldemort said, pointing to the House where Lily and James Potter once lived.

A tiny flicker of light, shone through the crack in the curtain. She knew they were in there. When the reached the gate, Voldemort told Hermione she could try once more to capture them…but kill them instead. She nodded slowly and gulped.

I can’t do this…I can’t do this…they’re my friends…she thought frantically as she entered the old house silently. She heard soft voices coming from the end room. She gulped again hard, making her cough. The house went silent. Shit! She cursed.

She tip toed up to the room and opened it quietly, “Guys…be quiet…it’s just me…” she whispered taking off her mask and putting her wand away.

They looked up at her and whipped out their wands, “Get out of here…before I am forced to kill you. We seen the death eaters outside…” Harry snapped.

“He wants me to kill you…I can’t do it. What I’m going to do is use the killing curse on nothing, just the walls. Then I’m going to use Levicorpus to drag you outside…then I’ll teleport you to Hogwarts’ gate. Get inside and never be seen again. Got it? But you’re going to have to throw some jinxes and that as well – not at me though or you will die.” she explained.

They slowly nodded and aimed their wands away from her. She pulled hers out and aimed at the wall, “Avada Kedavra!” she shouted.

Voldemort watched on as an assortment of lights, flashed in the window. A smile came upon his lips. Snape frowned softly. What one earth has she done…he thought.

A few moments later, Hermione came from the house with the three boys looking dead. She dropped them in front of Voldemort and looked at him.

“Excellent child…” he whispered.

“Shall I rid of them?” she asked.

“Yes, please do.” He replied.

She waved her wand over them and they disappeared. She looked back up and bowed. Lucius smirked in triumph over Harry Potter’s dead and long gone corpse.

“That was easy…” Avery commented.

“A little too easy.” Said Barty, narrowing his eyes at her.

She kept her game face on as she felt Draco’s eyes penetrate her mind.

“Let’s get out of here.” Voldemort said, apparating back to Malfoy Manor.

.:0:.

Hermione sat in the armchair and watched the flames crackle in front of her. She sighed heavily as she sipped the remains of her brandy. She looked out the window to her left and watched the rain smash against the thick glass. She heard the door open and spun around in her chair, causing her to topple off onto the floor.

“Miss Granger are you alright?” the voice asked.

“Fantastic…” she said into the carpet.

She lifted her head to the figure that glided towards her. Severus Snape in all his greasy glory, strode towards her and helped her up. She stood up and brushed herself off.

“Thank you.” She muttered, sitting back down.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Just wonderful…” she lied.

“Where did you send the three boys?”

“I don’t know…I just teleported their bodies.”

“We both know you didn’t kill them.”

“I beg your pardon?”

“Miss Granger…let me explain something to you. You see this mark. We both share the same one. Along with every other Death Eater in this Manor. Only ours, we don’t confide in. do you understand?”

“Are you saying…what I think you’re saying?”

“Of all the students I taught I thought you were the smartest, I say!”

“I don’t know what I should do. Kill you now or take you to The Dark Lord.”

Snape stared wide eyed at her, “What do you mean?”

“I killed those insolent little rats.” She snapped.

“I know you didn’t. Occulmency Miss Granger. It does come in handy from time to time.”

She was stuck in a rut. Was she to lie and kill an ex - professor of Hogwarts or to give in and run away? Or was this a trap? Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer her father taught her. But now, she wasn’t too sure which was which.

“What are we going to do then?” she asked, knowing he didn’t perform Occulmency on her.

“I’ll have to take you to the Order. They’ve set up a new base. You’ll be safe with them.” He replied, scratching his brow.

“I don’t know if I can trust you.” She said cautiously.

“Have I given you any reason not to trust me?” he asked.

She stared at him stupidly, “Uh, yeah!” she snapped, waving her arms about.

“Fine. If you change your mind…let me know.” He stood up and began to walk away.

“I can look after myself Severus!” she said venomously.

He simply raised an eyebrow and left the room. He closed the door behind him and met with Lucius.

“Well?” Lucius snapped.

“She’s never lied before…why would she lie now?” Severus replied, striding down the hall.

Lucius sighed and went in the other direction, towards the ballroom where the Dark Lord awaited him.
