Chapter 9
James looked up when he heard the door to the trailer open and smiled sadly at his best friend and one of the foremen on his crew. He had met Josh Taylor while he was overseeing the building of his first building. The two had instantly hit it off as Josh reminded him of Sirius. He had been the best man at Josh’s wedding and was the godfather of Josh’s three-year-old daughter.
“They are getting ready to break ground, thought you should be there for that.” Josh said, saddened when he saw the lost look in his friend’s eyes. “You were thinking about them again."When James nodded he continued,"James there was nothing you could do. You didn’t know there was a leak and are lucky to be alive yourself. Lily wouldn’t want you to blame yourself.”
“It was my fault though. I could have done more, I should have saved them.” Josh was used to this as James always got like this when someone asked about his family.
“There was nothing you could have done.” Was all he could say as he gave James’s shoulder a comforting squeeze. “Mary wanted to know if you could join us for dinner tonight? Sammy would love to see her godfather.” The mention of Samantha always lifted James’s spirits. Josh sometimes wondered if James was making up for everything he missed with his son by spoiling Sammy.
“Yeah I think I can do that. Now how about he go out there and break ground.” James said as he wiped a stray tear from his eye. Before he left however he placed a kiss on his fingers and touched the picture of his wife and child.

“I think they are going to break ground soon.” Chloe said as they saw the two people come out of the trailer. They had all been excited to see how this would work with all this machinery.
Many of the residents of Smallville had come to see this, but she couldn’t help but stare at her two friends. Clark was standing behind Harry with his chin resting on the smaller boy’s head and arms wrapped around the small waist. She still marveled at how small Harry was. She had seen Dudley and knew of the abuse of the Dursleys so knew his size was an effect of malnutrition. She always wondered how Harry had managed to survive what he had and still remain the sweet and caring person he was.
“He is made of stronger stuff than the rest of us.” She was broken from her thoughts when she heard Lex’s voice. He said it loud enough for only her to hear.
“How did you know I was thinking about that?” She responded just as quietly.
“Well you were staring at him quite intently and I figured, judging by the look on your face that you weren’t contemplating on starting a relationship with him.” Lex had heard a little from the others about Harry’s past, but knew there was a lot he hadn’t been told.
They all looked up when one of the cranes turned on and dug into the ground.

Harry suddenly felt Clark go ridged and quickly turned to find out what was wrong with his boyfriend. Looking at him hesaw his face was gaunt and it looked like he was having trouble breathing through the pain. Harry recognized this reaction and instantly knew there had to be meteor rocks around somewhere. Instantly he tried to hold his boyfriend up, but found he couldn’t do much as Clark was a lot bigger and heavier then him.
Pete also saw the reaction and since he had found out about Clark’s powers went over to help Harry. “Do you know where the rocks are?”
“No, I can’t see them.” Harry said. He then turned to where the crane had pulled up the dirt and saw hundreds of tiny green rocks.
By now Chloe and Lex had seen there were some problems and had gone to check it out. “What’s wrong with him?” Lex asked worried for his friend.
“The meteor rocks. They give off a very small amount of radiation and he is severely allergic to it.” Harry said as he motioned to the rocks by where the crane was digging. This had been the excuse everyone had come up with and Harry had even thought enough to sent a sample off to a lab so see if they could possibly verify that they did give off radiation. The Kents had told him not to waste his money, and that they probably didn’t, but Harry still followed his instincts and was surprised when the tests proved the rocks did give of some form of unknown radiation.
“Come on, we gotta get him out of here.” Pete said as Lex took Harry’s place supporting Clark, seeing that Harry was hardly able to hold him.
“Harry can you drive the truck?” Lex asked figuring Harry would be their best option for getting Clark back to his house.
Harry nodded and the other two pushed Clark into the car while Harry climbed into the driver’s seat. When they saw him drive away Lex decided he would have a word with the architect.

Harry was almost to the Kent farm when Clark began to show signs of waking. Clark opened his eyes and looked at his boyfriend wondering how he had gotten into the truck.
“Lex and Pete had to help you when the crane dug up the meteor rocks.” Harry answered him. “I don’t think anyone else saw though.”
“That’s good.” Clark said smiling at Harry.
That was about the time they pulled into the Kent’s driveway.

Remus and Sirius were sitting in the Headmasters office glaring at the two other families. They had thought this was going to be an order meeting and were surprised to just find only the Weasleys and Hermione’s parents sitting in the room. Albus had told them he had brought the two families there to discuss the children’s safety. The children who were the topic of conversation were also there, Ron, Ginny, and Hermione.
Albus hand wanted them to take in the three children for the summer to protect them from the remaining deatheaters, but when he had told Sirius and Remus this Sirius had automatically started yelling.
“Sirius I know you don’t want to have them, but that is the safest place for them. None of the Deatheaters would ever think to look for them there.” He said trying to calm the man.
“I don’t care Albus. Harry is finally happy and we are not going to do anything to jeopardize that. He has been through enough and it is mine and Remus’s jobs to see to it that he remains as happy as possible.”
“Oh, isn’t that how it always goes. Merlin forbid we do anything to upset the Great Harry Potter.” Ron said sarcastically. “We don’t even want to be around the little fag, but do you see us complaining? No, because it won’t do us any good. We just have to pray he doesn’t try anything when I get there.”
“You won’t have to worry as you won’t be going. I refuse to let any of them into my house.” Remus said while glaring at the three students.
It was Mrs. Granger who spoke next. “Please, seeing the way they talk about your godson I understand your not wanting to take them in, but wouldn’t you want to know we would take Harry if he were in trouble?” She was willing to do anything to keep her daughter safe. Even send her away.
She just couldn’t understand how her daughter could be a part of this. Hermione’s favorite aunt, her mother’s sister, was a lesbian. How was it she could be so cruel to this boy who she was constantly talking about as though he were the greatest thing in the world. She had also told her parents she had thought he might be gay and was just waiting for him to confirm it.
“Trust me, I would do anything for Harry. But I will not harm him by bringing these three into his home. Now if you will excuse us Albus we need to get back before Harry starts to worry.” With that the two stood and left the room with one last acknowledgement to the Headmaster out of respect.
“I hope you children realize what you have done. That really was the safest place to send you, and you ruined it by being prejudice. School lets out June 1st and we don’t have anywhere safe for you to go.” The headmaster said while looking at the three children.
Hermione felt awful. The only reason she had treated Harry like that was because she wanted Ron to like her. She had gotten what she wanted too. They had dated for a month before she broke up with him. They had broken up when she found him in bed with Lavender after she told him she wasn’t ready to take that step in their relationship. She had seen the way he used his status as The-Best-Friend-of-the-Boy Who-Lived-to-Vanquish to get what he wanted. It broke her heart to find him cheating on her and she had run off only to run into Ginny.
She had told Ginny everything and was surprised to find out the younger girl had not been speaking to anyone in her family, except Charlie, because of their treatment of Harry. The only one who had stuck up for Harry had been Charlie and had shocked the family by telling them he was gay too. He had been instantly disowned and had left the house that night taking Ginny with him. Her parents had been on the verge of disowning her when they were called into the Headmasters office to meet with Sirius and Remus. Hermione was just thankful to see Charlie also sitting in the office and knew he was there to take care of Ginny until he could find someone suitable to claim her.
She was broken from her thoughts when she heard someone speak. “Surly there are better places than that for the children Albus. Where is this place that it would be so hard to trace?” asked Molly Weasley.
“If I knew the answer to that question I would send my son there in a heart beat.” Came a voice from the door. “But I got lucky and ran into Black and Lupin in the corridor. They agreed to take Draco if he promised to be nice to Harry and his friends. I was told to ask how they were supposed to get him.” Lucius Malfoy said.
He had become a spy when Narcissa had decided to hand their son over to the Dark Lord against Draco’s and Lucius’s wishes. Lucius had instantly told his lover, Draco’s godfather, Severus Snape, and had been convinced to spy for Dumbledore. Harry had been in the office during their meeting and knew of the man’s allegiance. Draco and Harry had even started being civil to each other. He had been found out to be a spy during the final battle when he killed a fellow Deatheater to save Harry.
“I will contact them and tell them where to pick Draco up at. Give him this, it will explain everything as to how he is supposed to get there.” Albus said as he handed over a sealed packet of parchment.
Lucius just nodded and left to cancel the plans of having his son stay with his new business partner. Lupin and Black would be better equipped to protect his beloved son than some muggle, no matter how rich they were. And that was what was most important to him, keeping his son safe.
88888888888888888888
Clark and Harry had been there an hour before Lex showed up and told them he had asked the architect and one of the foremen to make sure all the meteor rocks had been cleared out of there. He had to tell them about the allergy, but they had also agreed not to tell anyone.
He had been in the trailer and had seen the picture on the man’s desk. He had even gone so far as to question the man about it. He had told Mr. Evans he didn’t have to answer if he didn’t want to and was surprised when the man had answered all his questions. James had told him it was because Lex wasn’t like his father.
He felt sorry for the man who had lost everything and wished there were some way his wife and/or child had survived. He also had a feeling he hadn’t been told the entire story though. It was the feeling he got whenever Sirius or Remus were talking about their past at the boarding school.
888888888888888888888
Jonathon looked at the three teens and his wife. Clark was finally back to his normal self and was sitting on the couch with Harry wrapped in his arms talking with Lex about what Mr. Evans was going to do about the meteor rocks.
Just then they heard a car pull up and looked outside to see Remus getting out of his car. He walked over and let the man in wondering why he looked ready to unleash the wolf.
Jonathon and his family had been told that Remus was a werewolf and they didn’t mind. Remus was never anything but nice to them.
“How’s it going?” His only response was a growl from the normally calm man. He then realized why Sirius wasn’t there. If Remus was this pissed than no one wanted to be near Sirius unless your name was Harry Potter or Remus Lupin.
Harry looked up from the couch and smiled at the werewolf. Seeing the wolf fighting to take control he quickly stood up and went to hug him. He had no idea as to why the wolf would always calm for him, but decided never to ask either.
The wolf instantly calmed when it had its cub safely in its arms. Remus had no idea why his inner wolf felt as though someone was threatening his cub, but didn’t care.
“Is Moony safely put away?” Harry whispered to him causing Remus to laugh.
“Yeah he is, but I think we need to get home to calm your godfather. I think he had transformed into Padfoot and had taken residence in your room before I left.” Remus said quietly so only Harry could hear.
Harry didn’t understand what it was with the two of them that whenever they were angry or upset their K9 selves would come out and take residence were his scent was the strongest. He also knew it was bad if Padfoot was in his bedroom.
With that thought he said goodbye to the Kents and Lex and followed Remus out to the car.
88888888888888888888888
When Harry and Remus finally made it up to his room he was not surprised to see the big black dog curled up on his bed. He instantly climbed up and lay down next to the dog and began petting him.
“Either of you two want to tell me what got you guys into these Wonderful moods?” He asked his guardians.
“We saw the Headmaster today and he wants us to take Granger and the two youngest Weasleys for the summer. Apparently Deatheaters want them dead and they would be safer here as who would think to look for them here.” Sirius said when he had changed back.
“Oh, and what did you say?” Harry asked genuinely curious. He thought he would hate the idea of them coming, but found he didn’t care as he could always go spend time with Clark, or Chloe, or Clark, or Pete, or Clark, or Lex, or maybe Clark.
“We told them where they could stick it. That they would not be stepping one foot into our house. We then ran into Lucius Malfoy and he asked us to take Draco for the summer. We did agree, but under the condition that he was nice to you and the others.” Sirius said waiting for his godson’s reaction.
“Well if you let Draco come you may as well take the others. Just don’t expect me to be nice to them. Besides they need protection and you two are the two best equipped for that.” Harry said.
“We would only be better if your dad were here.” Remus said while smiling sadly at the thought of his lost friend. It had always saddened him that they had not been able to find a body, but Fudge had said that it was probably destroyed in the explosion. Besides the arours reports said there was a pile of ash with James Potters magical signature in the sitting room where they assumed he had fallen.
