Chapter 9
Attempted Training

Lucius dumped the limp body in his arms onto the garden floor, imagining himself as the Potion Master and looming over his pet, glaring as if he wanted to tear the dog apart with his bare hands.

His glare subsided when Niveus looked back innocently; those big, unnatural emerald eyes met his own. Amusement flickered in those gorgeous –

You did not just call your bloody dog’s eyes gorgeous!

Lucius’ face twisted into terror for a fraction of a second before the glare was back on.

Niveus seemed to shrug before walking lazily to a warm spot near a tree and lay down on his belly, soaking up all the heat from the sun.

Lucius stood by the tree, and kept glaring at the small golden body at his feet. Minutes passed before he realized he didn’t know what to do. How do you train a dog, anyway? Baby talk and cooing to it?

Lucius opened his mouth and closed it again with a frown. Niveus gazed at his through his half closed eyes and seemed to grin. Lucius wondered if it would be that bad to crucio the dog.

Growling, he strolled back into the Manor, taking a pinch of powder and throwing it into the fireplace. Malfoys aren’t meant to train the bloody pets.

A scratched door, three ruined plants and a temper tantrum at Draco later, Niveus snuggled contently into the blankets of the Master bedroom. If he kept this going, he would be either a) Cruicio’d repeatly or b), be kicked out of the house. He was aiming for the latter one. Plus, it gave him a chance to destroy the Manor and torture the Malfoys…the look on Draco’s face when his precious pants were torn was hilarious. That, was nothing compared to Lucius Malfoy’s expression when he was “training” him. The blank and petrified look in the blonde’s eyes…the way he puffed his chest out when he was trying…and unsuccessfully…to glare a hole into his body. The confused look made the Malfoy look adorable.

Niveus snapped his eyes open.

Freeze.

Rewind.

Did he just call Malfoy adorable? Malfoys are evil, spoiled, arrogant bastards, never adorable!

Niveus whimpered and sank into the blankets once more, moving his head beneath his paws and trying to erase the thought of “Malfoy” and “adorable” in the same sentence.

Lucius took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to forget how wrong this might look. Moments later, he walked in the wooden doorway, adjusting his features to the arrogant bastard everyone thought as the normal Malfoy.

The woman at the counter glanced up briefly from the Daily Prophet and froze, staring wide eyed at the Malfoy.

“Mr. Malfoy,” her voice was high and squeaky. Lucius sighed impatiently. “How can we be service?” By the tie she finished, her face was completely flushed.

“Yes,” Lucius rubbed his nose in irritation, might as well get this over with, “My dog need to learn… discipline.”

The witch at the counter nodded.

“…and I need a professional trainer,” Lucius finished.

“Absolutely, Mr. Malfoy,” The woman said, still nodding, “We’ll make sure the best trainer will be at your service, so your pet get the best training.”

“Of course,” Lucius leaned some of his weight on his cane.

The witch began writing furiously on a piece of paper.

“Mr. Malfoy,” She said carefully, “What kind of pet do you have?”

“A dog.”

The witch looked up in surprise, but quickly returned to writing as she met Lucius’ glare.

“Do you have it with you, Mr. Malfoy?” She asked again after a moment.

“No,” Lucius frowned, “Am I supposed to bring it?”

“Oh no,” The woman shook her head, “Sometimes it’s easier for the pet to bond with the trainer if it’s here.” She folded the paper and waved her wand over it. The paper disappeared with a small pop.

“The trainer will be at your Manor twice a week until your dog is properly trained,” She smiled, “When can we start, sir?”

“Tomorrow at 8 is fine,” Lucius shifted his cane and made his way to the door.

“Thank you, Mr. Malfoy,” The women’s voice called out the moment he closed the door.

*Poke*

Niveus squirmed and buried himself further into the blankets.

*Poke*

Niveus waved his paw in the air, trying to get the annoying person to go away.

*Poke*

Niveus growled mentally, fully awake now but still kept his eyes closed. If the person disturbs him one more time he’ll…

*Poke*

Niveus growled again and snapped his eyes open and flipped himself over, sinking his teeth into the hand in front of him.

“Ow!” Lucius snatched his hand away from Niveus and cradled it over his chest. Teeth marks were branded into his skin and a bruise was quickly appearing. Reaching for his wand, Lucius healed the bruise and glared at his pet.

Niveus lowered its head and looked at Lucius apologetically, moved closer to Lucius and rubbed its head on Lucius’ hand, nuzzling where the bruise once were.

Lucius’ glare softened and picked up his pet, putting him over his shoulder as he carried it downstairs, placing it on the couch.

Niveus sat up quickly on the couch, sinking its paws into the soft leather and walked around.

“Stop moving,” Lucius murmured under his breath, surprised as Niveus stopped obediently.

“Good boy,” Lucius scratched Niveus behind his ear as a reward and Niveus lowered his head slightly.

The blond man reached into the robes and pulled out a leather collar with silver and emeralds.

Niveus seemed to be petrified, staring at the collar.

Lucius waved the collar in front of Niveus, watching as Niveus’ eyes followed the swinging collar. Lucius slowly circled the collar around Niveus’ neck, frowning as Niveus growled in warning and moved its head out of the loop that the collar made.

“Niveus,” Lucius’ glare hardened and he tried again, getting the same reaction from Niveus.

“It wouldn’t be proper without it,” Lucius tried to explain, “Especially if other people sees you, without a collar you would be mistaken as homeless, now you don’t want to be taken to the shelter again, do you?”

Lucius watched as Niveus twitched uncomfortably, almost as if the dog actually understands what he was saying, and it acted like a person…a grumpy one, in fact. It didn’t seem like Niveus was changing his opinions about the collar.

“I can’t take you out if you don’t wear it,” Lucius suggested, feeling very awkward talking to an animal. He had no idea why he was talking to a bloody dog…it’s not as if Niveus could understand. If he wanted that collar around Niveus’ neck he could have forced it on…but something tells him that’s not a very good idea.

Niveus looked at him, puzzled, and cocked its head to one side slightly, looking more and more cuddly.

“If you put this on,” Lucius waved the collar in front of Niveus again, “We’ll go to a big castle. Very beautiful.”

Niveus froze and stared at him, realization flickered in emerald eyes. Slowly he reached out to the collar in front of him, and sniffed it carefully, before dropping its head in defeat.

Lucius smirked and put the collar around Niveus’ neck. He always got what he wanted…even if it means he has to ask nicely about it.
