Chapter 9
“Ah, Harry, Remus, I was beginning to wonder where you’d got to.”
“Sorry, Professor,” said Harry, finally breaking out of his trance and coming to kitchen table where everybody was sat, closely followed by Remus. “We were held up at Gringott’s; I can’t believe the amount of forms we had to sign. By the way, this is the 5000 galleons for the Order and I was wondering if you would be going to the Burrow later. Don’t worry if you’re not, I can always give it the money to Ron tomorrow.”
I will indeed be stopping by to inform Arthur how the raid on Malfoy Manor went so I can give them their money as well as Fred and George’s while I’m there.”
“Thanks,” said Harry as he handed over the bags of money.
“Albus, did you just say there was a raid on Malfoy Manor, when did that happen?”
“At about 10 o\'clock this morning; Mister Malfoy here had kindly informed me that Voldamort and his death eaters were there, including all of those who have most recently escaped from Azkaban. Unfortunately we were too late and they had already vacated the premises.”
“So that’s why you want Draco to stay here with me.”
‘Yes,’ thought Draco, ‘a whole summer alone with the gorgeous Harry Potter. Damn Snape for insisting that he stay here as well…hang on, did Harry just call him Draco?’
Dumbledore smiled, “Yes, Harry, that’s correct although I must let you know that Professor Snape has asked if he could stay tonight as well to make sure Mister Malfoy, settles in well. There will also be people stopping by from time to time to make sure the two of you are getting on okay so no fighting.”
“Oh don’t worry about that Professor, there won’t be any of that from my side at least but that doesn’t mean I won’t retaliate so unless Harry starts anything…”
Harry was gob smacked and it took a couple of seconds to before he could shake himself out of the stupor while the other four people in the room waited for his answer to Draco’s question.
“Sorry, no I won’t be starting anything.”
“So you see Professors, there wont be any need for adult supervision.”
Draco shot Harry a quick smile and Harry’s heart skipped a beat. He couldn’t believe how sweet Draco looked like that.
“I still think that it would be a good idea if I stayed here tonight.”
Draco panicked. As much as he loved his Godfather, this was his best chance to see if there could ever be anything more than friendship between him and the sex god sat across the table from him. Then he came up with an idea.
“But what would happen if someone tried to contact you, Severus, and you weren’t there. They might think that you had something to do with the raid on the Manor. I can’t afford to lose you as well. You’re my Godfather, one of the last people who truly cares for me in the whole world.”
Draco was right, Snape couldn’t think what would happen to his Godson if anything happened to him and he’d been through enough today as it was, there was no need to add to that burden.
“Fine, but I’ll be round first thing tomorrow morning.”
Realising that it would probably be best if the boys had some time alone, Remus reminded Snape that he would need a new batch of Wolf’s bane potion before the full moon next week and the two men left for Snape’s house.
“I’ll be leaving now as well, I still need to stop by the Burrow and it would be nice to have time for a cup of tea there before I have to go home. If you want anything to eat, the fridge and the cupboards are all fully stocked. Goodnight boys.”
“Goodnight, Professor,” the boys chorused as there was a cracking sound and Dumbledore disappeared.
“Well I don’t know about you, Draco, but I’m starving.”
“I’m famished. You couldn’t get your house elf to whip me up a steak could you?”
I don’t have a house elf, or at least not one that will listen to anything I tell him to do. Come to think of it he probably doesn’t even know that this place is under new management.”
“What do you mean your house elf wont listen to you and hates you. You’re his master, why don’t you punish him.”
“Kreacher hates me. He was the late Mrs. Blacks house elf and he practically worshipped the ground she walked on, that’s what I can understand from his actions anyway. He hates me because I’m a half-blood and I’m meant to defeat Voldamort.”
“Did Mrs. Black support Voldamort then?”
“Not so much what he did, but she definitely agreed with what he was saying about muggles. I must warn you, though, while we’re on the subject of Mrs. Black, that there is a picture of her on the wall in the hall upstairs. She’s usually asleep but could you please try to be careful not to wake her up; she makes an awful racket and its hell to get her to shut up again. I would get rid of it but it’s got a permanent sticking charm on it.”
“So what are we going to do about dinner if your house elf is practically useless? I really don’t think it would be a good idea to go to Diagon Alley.”
“Well of course not, now that the death eaters are after the both of us. I’ll just have to cook.”
