CH.9

Remus had insisted on walking to the edge of town, stopping at a few cart vendors picking out a gift for each of the girls, before actually aparating to the O’Ryane house. It was on the fringes of the mini world, know as Haven, that the odds and ends of the wizarding and muggle communities lived in. The O’Ryane home was a simple cottage just the right size for the it’s three occupants with a lavish garden in the front and the roof of a green house peeking out behind the main house. The garden was split into two sections, a vegetable and flower garden made up the majority of the front yard while a fair sized nook was dedicated to some native European herbs. Snape’s black eyes swept over the simple patch observing how organized and meticulously it was tended. The rest of the garden looked well cared for but special attention seemed to be paid to the herbs. ‘I wonder if this Odette girl is the one who tends it?’
“Spectacular isn’t it? The O’Ryanes are brilliant gardeners but Odette limits herself to what she can use for potions. Now Eva, she’s more than just a green thumb.” Remus mused as they came upon the door. Hardly a second after knocking the door was answered by a grinning young girl with perfect Aryan features.
“Moony!” She squealed jumping into a bear hug her light blond hair framing her face and cascading down her back. Pacific blue eyes closed briefly as she hugged the werewolf tightly, “Your coming to tell us good bye aren’t you?” She said pouting as she pulled away. The girl looked to be about Harry’s age maybe a year younger with porcelain skin, blond hair and blue eyes. She wore a simple forest green dress accented in an amber shade that fell to her ankles.
“I’m afraid so little one.” Remus sighed stroking a hand through her hair.
“Well, come inside and you can introduce us to your friend! I think Pappa is out back in the green house with Odette, they’ll be here in a minute or two.” Eva said as she ushered the men into the simple furnished living room. “Would you like some tea? It’ll only take a second, the water is already hot.”
“Yes please.” Remus answered as he took a seat on the couch near the door, facing the fire place.
“No thank you.” Severus murmured softly as he sat on the other end of the couch looking around the room.
It was a comfortable area, not overly large but big enough for the couch and long coffee table in front of it as well as the chair and book case off to the side a safe distance from the fire place and across from a staircase leading to the second floor. All but the top shelf of the ceiling high case was full of books, the last shelf displayed wizard photographs and a few ceramic statues, a unicorn, dragon and a humanoid looking creature Severus couldn’t identify. His attention was drawn away from the odd piece when Eva returned with a tray of tea for Remus and a few extra cups, presumably for her sister, father and Severus if he should change his mind, and a plate of cookies. She was a lovely girl, innocent, but her eyes sparkled with intelligence that Severus couldn’t wait to test the extent of.
“So, who’s your friend Moony?” The girl asked as she pulled up a stool from where it had been by the fire place.
“Oh, this is Severus Snape. He’s the Potions Master at Hogwarts.” Remus answered sipping at his tea.
“Really?! Odette will be thrilled at having a Potions Master here! I’ll bet she’s going to have a million questions or more for you.” Eva giggled and smiled at Severus as she poured some tea for herself.
“Hn.” Was Severus’ only response before a commotion of Odette and Mitchel entering the kitchen through the back door reached their ears. Eva excused herself and rushed into the kitchen to get them.
“Mr. Snape this is my father, Mitchel O’Ryane and my older sister, Odette! Guess what Dette?! Mr. Snape is a Potions Master!” The girl chirped as she pulled the pair into the living room.
Mitchel O’Ryne was a broad and tall man, a good six feet and three or four inches with clear blue eyes like a summer sky and sandy brown hair, obviously the white blond was one of the girls’ mother’s traits. He had a strong air about him and a tightly muscled body that moved easily. Remus had mentioned the man was a wood worker of some kind, and it obviously payed off from the look of his muscular arms.
His eldest daughter, Odette, was a tall and slim girl of about seventeen, maybe eighteen. Her hair was a shade darker than her sibling’s and cut much shorter. The length of the back ended at the nape of her neck while the bangs hung about an inch lower and was held back on each side by a pin. Her skin didn’t hold the golden glow that Eva’s did and her eyes were more of a cloudy October sky or crisp, white speckled winter, than that of clear summer or lovely Pacific blue. She was somewhere between her sister and father in height though closer to Mitchel, a tall, lean five foot nine at least. A pair of black muggle jeans, a gray turtle neck and a black robe covered her lean form. The robe was well worn and worked in. Her eyes widened for a moment at the mention of Snape’s profession, then she took on a more reserved look, nodding politely to the older man.
“Severus Snape? Remus has mentioned you a few times. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Mitchel said with a grin.
“I’m sure they were all good things.” Severus said sarcastically. Mitchel just chuckled at the man, though Remus seemed a bit flustered with his attitude.
“You sound like my sweat Odette! All attitude!” The girl blushed and glared at her father.
“Yes, they’re both insufferable at times.” Remus admitted with a sigh. Odette just hmphed and sat down in a chair. Severus liked this girl, she reminded him a bit of himself at her age, all fire and brimstone with just the right amount of reservation.
“Yes well, I admit to being a bit curious at Mr. Snape’s presence in my home, Remus. Is something going on with your war I should know about?” Mitchel was obviously curious and a little less than pleased. Remus knew the people of Haven’s stand point on the war: they wanted as little to do with it as humanly possible.
“Yes actual it does. Diegara paid a visit to Rosy’s today, along with Severus here and Harry, James and Lily’s son.” Remus paused to see if the man had anything to say to this.
“Really? So Diegara’s back. This thing must be getting awfully serious, don’t see what it has to do with us though. Haven is practically it’s own universe, you know that Moony. Otherwise how would we have kept it a secret for so long?” Mitchel said leaning against the mantle over the fire place concern written all over his face.
“I know but we need help!” Remus pleaded, “Diegara has a plan, it’s risky but the best we’ve got so far and we were hoping you and the girls would be willing to help.”
“Doing what exactly?” Odette asked suspiciously.
“Well, you and your sister would start attending Hogwarts. Eva as a student and you would be apprenticing Professor Snape.” Odette blinked.
“What will this accomplish?” She continued.
“Well, not only will we have your sister but a select few other youths keeping tabs on the student populace but you could help Severus with his potions and the more we have on our side the better.” Remus explained.
“I thought you had the majority of that school, and it’s Headmaster, Dumbledore, on your side.” Mitchel said.
“No. Albus has proven himself to be unreliant. There is a third party in this war now and we are that third party. Our forces are relatively small compared to the Dark Lord or Dumbledore, but neither of them are expected to see the end of this war. It seems the Dragoons are unhappy with the way they are being treated and they will take care of the Dark Lord while he takes care of Dumbledore.” Remus explained his voice oddly cold as he watched his friend’s reaction. The other man stood with a seriously contemplative look on his face.
Mitchel sighed, “So. How can we help.” Remus smiled and Severus nearly did.

Hope you liked it! Hopefully another chapter will be out soon, the holidays are utter hell on my writing time! But I’ll try my hardest, promise! Please review, I adore the encouragement! And I again apologize for any mistakes, I don’t have a beta and I’ve admittedly been rushing a bit lately.
