Chapter 9: The Golden-Haired Prophecy

While Ron was sleeping peacefully encircled in Ashley’s arms, Dumbledore was
sitting in an exhausted Professor Snape’s chambers.

“Severus, you have been missing for weeks, we were extremely worried.\"

“I know, Headmaster,” said Snape, wearily wiping his eyes. “The Dark Lord, he
was…Let’s just say, I have never seen him so mad.”

“Severus, you need to get some sleep. But first, Is Voldemort upset because of
the girl? The girl from the prophecy.\"

Snape’s eyes widened. He shouldn’t be surprised, though, Dumbledore knew
everything before anyone else.

“Yes,” he said quietly, “the prophecy is coming true, Headmaster. I am afraid
for the wizarding world. I am afraid for the girl. Do you know where she is?”

“Yes. I must send word to the Weasley’s right away. They must bring her here.”

It was time for Snape to be surprised again. The Weasley’s? His subtle magic
must have worked somehow, it must have brought her to the person that he knew
could take care of her.

Everyone in the Burrow, had a wonderful morning, just being in each other’s
company. Ashley, though practically connected to Ron at the hip, held small
talk with Harry and Hermione, satisfied that they were not going to treat her
with pity or a weird uncomfortableness.

The whole family, after lunch, was
lounging around the living area. Molly and Arthur were updating family pictures;
Ginny was playing with little Corey; Fred and George were working on numbers
for their store; and Harry and Hermione were telling Ashley about Hogwarts. Ron
sat with Ashley curled up in his arms, noting that things couldn’t get much
better than this. All that changed, though, the second Dumbledore flood into
the room.

“Headmaster!” Arthur exclaimed, jumping up. “Is everything alright?”

“I am afraid not,” Dumbledore answered, sinking into the chair that Arthur had
offered him.

“You all must listen to carefully,” Dumledore’s usually twinkling eyes
scanned the room. They stopped on the small pale girl. She was scrunched up in
Ron’s arms, though, she already knew what was going to be said. Dumbledore also
noticed the look on Ron’s face. He must have takeite ite a fancy to this girl.
His expression told Dumbledore that he must tread lightly because Ron did not
want to see this girl hurt.

“Ahhh…you must be Ashley. I am Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of the school Ron
and Ginny attend.”

“Yes, sir, I know who you are,” a quiet voice returned.

“I am here because of you.”

“I presumed that also, sir,” Ron held her closer.

Dumbledore took a deep breath as he looked at all expectant faces.

“Professor Snape returned this afternoon and his story confirmed what I found
out myself last night. Ashley, I am sure that you have been informed that the
man who took you is a very powerful evil man in our world.”

Ashley nodded.

“This wasn’t a random kidnapping, my dear, he needed you.\"

“But why me?” Ashley interrupted. “I am not even a witch.”

“Sometimes that doesn’t matter. Prophecies don’t lie.\"

The Weasley clan gasped.

“Ashley is part of a prophecy?!” Molly exclaimed.

“I am afraid she is,\" Dumbledore returned, turning to Ashley, “My dear,
prophecies are very powerful in our world. They don’t lie, whether we like it
or not.\"

“Please sir, just tell us what it is,” Ashley proclaimed in a tear-choked
voice.

“Alright,\" Dumbledore said, pulling out a parchment. He slowly unwrapped it
and cleared his voice.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
\"The Boy Who Lived may soon perish, if it is up to the Dark Force. A girl with
hair of gold and eyes that bear into the soul, born of a wizard father and
muggle mother, with no powers of her own, may turn our world upside down. A
child made from the union of the girl with hair of gold and the Darkest Force
in our world, will have no equal. The Boy Who Lived will perish, and darkness
will rule the world.\"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The only sound in the room was the quiet sobbing of the girl with the hair of
gold and eyes that bore into the soul, and then a muffled question.

“Yes?” Ron said gently looking into Ashley’s eyes.

“Who is the Boy Who Lived?”

Everyone’s eyes turned towards Harry and Ashley gasped as she looked at the
handsome boy with the sad green eyes. With that Harry quickly spun around and
ran up the stairs.
