Chapter Ten


“Are you thinking what I am thinking?”
“And what are you thinking?”
I roll my eyes.

“Tell me what you know of Barbie and Ken?”
“Barbie is a popular muggle doll and Ken is her gigolo.”
“Hmm. Any thing else?”
“There’s even a muggle song written about them.”**
I am floored by the expanse of his knowledge as even I have forgotten about the song. I silently applaud him.

“Good, but is there nothing else you know. And I am not talking about the trivia but about them personally.”
“I wonder what you want to know.”
“I don’t want to know anything. I already do. But there is something you don’t seem to know.”
“And what precisely is t”
”

Umm. How to phrase it?

“Ken is, um, shall we say, deficient in some areas.”
“Oh.”

Perhaps it is the sensation of knowing something he didn’t, for the first time, that I find myself divulging secrets from my childhood.

“I am still mad at him. Embarrassingly enough, when I was little I didn’t realize he wasn’t anatomically correct. Imagine my surprise when Tom Lykens from down the block offered to ‘show me his’. I was traumatized.”

“But Barbie isn’t anatomically correct either, either.”
“Ah, you’re going for logic.”
“It’s a habit I got into early in life and I can’tke ike it.”
“I know.”
A raised eyebrow.
“From my first year. The puzzle of the seven potions. Youte ite it.”
“And you solved it.”
I blush.

“You see, Miss Granger, my belief wasn’t wrong. You have a good mind. Now let’s get back to the job at hand.”
“The plan you mean.”
“That’s the one.”

“But that’s what I am talking about. We already know the thing everyone will miss most on Valentine’s Day. And since they’re going to be dressed up as Barbie and Ken, why don’t we make them true to prototype. ”

“You realize the implications of what you are suggesting.”
“Yes.”
“You mean to say we do something to dismember our peers this Friday.”
“Specifically, I was thinking of a potion.”
“Hmm.”
His contemplation heartens me and I explore the possibilities.

“A potion combined with a time-delay charm perhaps. So that the potion takes place at a later time, if you know what I mean.”
“Caught in the act you mean”
“Exactly.”

“Not bad, Miss Granger.”
