I do not own the Harry Potter universe, be it the books, movies, or characters...I make no money from this fic. It is for pure enjoyment.
What Did I Just Miss
Reasons I Do Not Trust Albus Dumbledore:
1. He left me on my aunt\'s doorstep with a letter...overnight.
2. My first letter from Hogwarts was addressed to "Cupboard under the stairs"
3. He had my father\'s invisibility cloak when Voldemort killed them...They could have lived.
4. He let forced a minor to compete in the Tri-Wizard Tournament...There are rules against it.
5. Forced me to live in a house where I was beaten and treated worse than a House-elf.
6. Was able to clear Sirius before he was sent to Azkaban.
7. Presided over the non-trial of Sirius, sentencing him to Azkaban for my parents murder.
8. Never tells me the truth straight out, always in a round-a-bout way.
9. Forced Sirius to be a prisoner in his own home.
10. Didn\'t let us (Hermione, Ron, and I) tell the Aurors that Peter Pettigrew was alive and the secret keeper.
11. Kept secrets from me that pertained to my own life.
12. Let Cornelius Fudge enter the school and force poisons down my throat, not allowing me to partake the antidotes for all of them.
He dropped the quill back in the empty inkwell, sitting back and rubbing his hands over his face. He looked over at the small clock on his desk as his stomach growled. It was nearing dinner time and no one had come for him in the last several hours. He stood and stretched, taking time to make sure that his back popped several times before he walked to his bedroom changing into a pair of dark grey slacks and a grey oxford. He slipped a pair of socks on followed by his dragon hide boots. He double checked himself in the mirror, tying his hair back with a small piece of leather before he left his rooms. As he shut the portrait he shifted to roam the halls as Koda, taking his time to make it to the Great Hall. He figured if anyone was around they would be eating dinner.
He snuffled his way down the halls, searching for anyone that would be around or even a trace of them. He had a wolfish grin as he picked up the smell of catnip and lemon drops. He knew that Professors Dumbledore and McGonagall had passed this way recently, perhaps on their way to dinner. He took a large breath before bursting into a sprint making his way down the stairs to catch up with them.
As he turned the corner into the main hall he yipped softly seeing Remus standing talking quietly with McGonagall and Snape. Harry picked up speed, his paws eating up the marble slabs as he jumped, shifting back mid jump so that he tackle hugged Remus from behind, "REMMY!"
Remus turned and looked at Harry with a sad smile on his face, "Hey pup. Why don\'t you go in and get something to eat. We will be in there in a few minutes."
Harry nodded and left them heading into the great hall only to find Dumbledore watching him curiously. Harry nodded to the older wizard before taking a seat farthest from the man. He glanced at the door wondering what was going on between the three, as a small piercing feeling in his gut let him know that they were talking about him. He looked at his plate sitting in front of him, loosing his appetite. He pushed the plate away from himself and turned an icy stare at Dumbledore, "Why was Fudge here today? I thought you said that my tests would be done without anyone\'s knowledge."
Dumbledore looked over Harry as his hand smoothed out his beard, "That my boy is a good question. I will ask-"
Harry slammed his fist down on the table, "Enough! I can handle you leaving out important information from my life only so long. Why was he here? And don\'t you dare talk in riddles."
Dumbledore was slightly taken aback by Harry\'s forwardness, "I will admit that he was on his way to see me but as for knowing about your tests, I am unsure as to who told him."
Harry huffed and glared at the old man, "You would do well to figure out the details."
The old man\'s face darkened as he took in the implied threat from Harry, "Or what dear boy?"
Harry smirked, "Or the entire wizarding world will know everything that you have allowed to happen to me for \'The Greater Good.\' I\'m warning you. There is a reason the sorting hat wanted me to be a Slytherin. I almost died. Again. I have had enough negligence when it comes to the one who is supposed to be the leader of the light. You make mistakes, grave ones. Yet you do not seem fit to apologize for making them." Harry stood from the table and left the hall not bothering to look back.
The farther he walked from the hall and from Dumbledore, the better he felt. Finally he was able to tell the old man what he thought of his so called greater good. He knew that he would have to face Tom Riddle. He didn\'t care about that. It was inevitable, he knew that and yet he was willing to fight to either his own death or the death of Voldemort to protect those he loved.
Harry left the hall to return to his rooms, stopping only to scribble out a quick note. He duplicated it with a quick wave of his wand before heading to the owlry. He smiled as he saw Hedwig resting on a perch close to his eye level. Reaching out, he gently ran a finger over her feathers to wake her. She gave a low hoot and nipped his fingers, "Hey love. I have some things I need for you to take to every book seller you can find in the UK." He tied the strips of parchment to her legs, "Just the magical book sellers alright? We don\'t need the muggles getting all huffy about an owl delivering letters." Hedwig clicked her beak before taking off into the darkening Scottish sky.
Hedwig returned a few days later no worse for wear, save she was exceedingly tired. Harry knew that the trip had taken a lot out on her, so when she returned he gave her a handful of treats and left her to rest. He wandered the halls hoping that he would be getting the books that he requested or at least one of them soon. He knew it was a shot in the dark that any of the book sellers would even have them, let alone be willing to sell them.
His last NEWT came upon him as he waited for any information. It was Wednesday the 28th, and the rest of the student population would be returning on Saturday. He rolled his neck as he left his room, shifting into Koda as he quietly trod down to the great hall for his last test. He changed back before opening the doors and smiled at Professor McGonagall and nodded to the proctor of his exam. He was asked to change a spoon into a mouse then back again, followed by changing his own appearance without the aid of a mirror. He winced as he felt his elven ears return to what they once were, black and silver hair sprouted from his chin as his eyes shifted to a silver. Happy with what he had done he turned to the proctor to exam the outcome.
Nearing the end of the exam Harry looked over at Professor McGonagall and smiled, "Any chance for some extra points?"
The proctor looked taken aback, "Well Mr. Potter, I would hazard to say that you have already achieved an Outstanding. Unless you can take on an animagus form then I am sorry there is no chance-"
The poor man didn\'t even get a chance to finish his sentence as Harry shifted and looked up at both the adults in front of him. He yipped playfully at both before he threw his head back in a loud howl, echoing across the hall. He grinned wolfishly at them both before sitting down and waiting for their inspection.
The proctor stared at the wolf-like dog with a sense of fear and awe. He quickly began to cast diagnostic spells on Harry in this form to make sure that everything was as it was supposed to be.
As the proctor was checking over Harry, Minerva McGonagall was on the verge of tears. The young man in front of her was truly gifted and wanted to learn from her. He had took it upon himself to learn to become an animagus, something that she would not have covered until seventh year. She cleared her throat as she caught Harry\'s attention. The young man shifted back as he walked over to her throwing his arms around her in a hug. He rested his head against her shoulder as he whispered into her ear, "I know we haven\'t seen eye to eye on a lot of things Professor. I will study, but keep please keep Dumbledore and his business away from me. I know what I have to do, just let me have a little bit of fun before it is too late." He stepped back and nodded to the proctor before he left the room.
He was heading off to find Remus. He really wanted to talk to the man after everything that happened to him over the past week or so since he had his confrontation with Dumbledore. He stopped in front of Iris Pivis and knocked lightly, waiting for Remus to show. He stood waiting for a few minutes when he heard a soft moan coming from in the room. Harry stared at the door and shook his head as he knocked harder, "Remmy?"
Soft cursing filtered through the portrait before Harry could begin to try and understand what was being said or what was happening in Remus\'s rooms the portrait was flung open. Remus stood looking at Harry. Harry smiled softly as he noticed that Remus was in only a pair of pants with a slight sheen of sweat rolling off the older man. His mind finally caught up to what was happening in the room as he backed away muttering softly, "Right...sorry....see you later." He raced down the hall away from Remus and the obvious scene. He had finally stopped running when he realized he was outside of the potions lab. He raised his hand tenatively, \'please don\'t let me walk in on someone else going at it.\' He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before knocking and sliding the door open.
A/N: Now that my magical fairy Mika is back and safely ensconced in the dungeon, I can safely say that I will be posting every friday.
Mika: It\'s dark...and my candles are gone.
Drizzt: If you didn\'t run away and simply asked for permission you would still be able to wander in your free time.
Mika: all I wanted was to see my family.
Harry: *elbows Mika\'s ribs* shh. I want to know who my mate is. I don\'t want to be celibate for the rest of my life.
Drizzt: *grins* indeed.
