Chapter Eight
If you cannot go to the people you would consider your friends, who do you turn to? Hermione made her way over to Flourish and Blotts, having left Remus in the room so that he could get some much needed sleep. Going over to the potions books, she looked over the different books as she waited for her contact. Catching a flash of silver white blond hair, she started what they had planned on doing. She reached up and tried to get a book that was out of reach.
“Excuse me, madam, can I help you get that?” a man asked her.
She turned to look over to Draco Malfoy, rubbing the small of her back and looking relieved. “Yes, thank you. I’ve been meaning to see if I need that potions book or not.”
He got the book for her. After a moment and slipping a note into the book, she sighed with disappointment. “This wasn’t the book I needed after all.”
He let out a relieved breath, “I hated to say this, but I actually did need just that book.”
“Then it’s fortuitous,” she said, handing it over to him and went around to another part of the bookstore. Hermione watched him, as he read the note she had left in it. It was asking for a meeting with his father and himself at Malfoy manor at five o’clock that evening.
He closed the book, looking over to her and gave an indiscernible nod of his head, going over to the cashier to pay for the book. Hermione kept looking around for some time before leaving. She bought a book on the current werewolf law and how it affected the citizens. True she was taking a chance by buying it, but she needed details on the law. She took it straight over to the Shrieking Shack and read the book for the next three hours, taking notes.
Hiding the book, she left the building and went straight over to the Knockturn Alley public house she and Remus were staying. Hermione found Remus still asleep. Smiling to herself she kicked off her shoes and pants off before climbing into the bed with her lover. She slid her hands over his body, kissing his shoulder.
“Mmm, luv, where were you?” he asked quietly, slipping his arms around her.
“Just stepped out for a bit of fresh air,” she murmured, nuzzling his neck.
Two things occurred to her at once. The first was that he had yet to slide his palm over her pregnant stomach. The other was that he didn’t smell right.
Pulling back she said, “You know, Remus, I was remembering how we met just as I was getting here to the hotel.”
“Really?” he asked, watching her getting dressed again. “What about it?”
“It’s so hard to forget meeting your first love and in such a public way,” she said. “You remember, right?”
He frowned. “What do you mean?”
She laughed at herself. “I’m being silly. It’s the hormones!” She went over to him, pulling at his hand. “Come on with you! We need to apperate over to Diagon Alley! I’m craving some fish and chips.”
“But…”
“Food!” she demanded. “Your child needs it as does your mate. Get dressed. I’ll wait for you, but just so long.”
“Fine,” he muttered and was soon ready to go.
They apperated straight over to the apperation point west of the alley they were going to. Hermione looked down at the corpse of what was supposed to be her mate and knew that Remus was now their prisoner again.

Five came and Hermione showed up at Malfoy Manor. Draco let her into the house, seeing at once that she was in distress. He walked her over to the library where his father was. The older Malfoy looked up to them and was about to say something, but was cut off by Hermione’s whispered words.
“They have him,” she said hoarsely. “They have Remus.”
“When?” Draco asked.
Swallowing thickly she said, “Sometime during the time I was investigating the law and arranging for us to meet up.”
“Enough of that,” Lucius said coolly. “You didn’t come here about that. So why did you?”
She looked over to him, her eyes hardening. “You are the only wizard I know with any sort of clout…”
“I had nothing…”
“I know that!” she snapped. “That law is a joke! It has loop holes no sane former Slytherin would have left.” She leaned back rubbing her belly. “Besides, what would you gain from making this law? There is no profit to be had, it isn’t like they are being sent to Azkaban, and then there is Draco.”
“What about him?” he asked, sounding upset.
She turned towards Draco slowly. His eyes went wide at the wave of powerful magic she gave off. Sending the message to him, he stood up and went over to his father, whispering to him, “She knows.”
Hermione watched as Lucius looked from him to her. “What did you do to him just now?”
“Not even a speck of what I am capable of,” she answered. “Mr. Malfoy, I won’t deny that there are some bad werewolves out there in the world. It would be naïve to think otherwise, but to punish everyone who is so cursed when they have done nothing to deserve it?”
“That is not our problem,” he muttered, leaning back.
“You should make it so, because I’m telling you that this is but the beginning. And it will make the war against Voldemort look like a walk in the park,” she told him. “I don’t know about you, but I would have thought two major wars in ones lifetime was more than enough.”
Rolling his eyes, he muttered, “What do you expect me to do?”
“Do what you do best,” she told him, standing up and going over to him. “Someone in the Ministry of Magic is usurping your authority.” She leaned down so that he and she were eye to eye. “They are taking powers they have no right to! They have murdered innocents! They have arrested people that have done nothing more than tried to protect their neighbors. They have doppelgangers impersonating people and working with them to get what they want.” It was during the middle of the little speech that it occurred to her that she could have very well have been talking about the Death Eaters, but pushed the thought out of her head and kept going with it. “You are a Malfoy! You crush them!”
