Chapter 7
Broken Wings
Chapter 7
Luke and Hermione were awakened by Luke’s commlink. “Skywalker,” he mumbled.
“Luke, it’s Lando,”
“What have you found?” Luke asked, now wide awake and sitting up in bed.
“We found him. I’ll be moving into position in two days. Once I’m in, I’ll contact you,” Lando answered.
“Alright. I’ll be waiting. Skywalker out,” Luke said. He then faced Hermione. “Hermione, I’m sorry but…”
“I understand Luke. Come on, we better get you ready to leave,” she smiled softly.
As Luke grabbed a shower, Hermione packed a few ration of fruit, bread and a few other things that would last him till he reached Tattooine. She hated that she didn’t have more time with him, but his friends and the Rebellion needed him.
“Hermione,” he whispered as he moved behind her.
“Luke, be careful. Let me know when you’ve safely rescued Han,” she replied as she turned to face him.
“I will. I wish we had more time together,” he sighed.
“As do I,” she nodded.
The two walked hand-in-hand out of the house. Had Wormtail followed, he definitely would have had something to report. Neither Hermione nor Luke said anything as he led her to where he hid his X-Wing. Artoo beeped happily as Luke and Hermione approached the ship.
“Luke Skywalker! How could you leave Artoo here alone for two weeks?” Hermione gasped.
“It was Artoo that wanted to stay here,” Luke argued.
Artoo let out a long series of beeps and warbles. Hermione smiled softly as she read the translations. “Well, I guess he’s forgiven since it was your choice. Thank you for giving Luke and me some privacy,” Hermione smiled as she affectionately patted the droid.
As Luke began checking out the ship, Hermione levitated Artoo into his position on the X-Wing. Once Luke was finished and put his things away, he turned and faced Hermione. Neither wanting to say good bye.
“Hermione, please be careful. I feel this war with Empire will be over soon, but the war with Voldemort will just begin to heat up,” he said.
“I’ve been feeling that too. Don’t worry about me though. When the war with the Empire is over, I’ll be right here waiting for you,” she nodded.
Luke pulled her tightly into his arms and kissed her fiercely. Hermione eagerly returned the kiss as she clung to him. Slowly, their lips parted and their foreheads touched tenderly.
“Remember, call me once you get Han and you’re heading back to Dagobah,” she whispered.
“I will. I love you Hermione,” he nodded.
“I love you too Luke,” she replied tearfully.
Luke gave her one last kiss before climbing into the cockpit. Hermione waved as she watched him take off and fly away toward Tattooine. With a heavy sigh, she turned and headed back to her home.
Wormtail, now wide awake, hid under the entertainment center. He watched as Hermione re-entered the house and sit on the sofa. She grabbed a throw pillow and clutched it to her chest. She then reached into her pocket and pulled out a mirror.
“Hermione? Are you alright?”
“No. Can you come over please? I…I just need someone to talk to,” she answered as a few tears slid down her cheek.
“I’ll be right there,”
Wormtail was shocked to hear the voice of Severus Snape come from the mirror. ‘Well, well. Looks like Snape is a traitor. This could very well get me in Voldemort’s good graces. Maybe even a reward,’ Wormtail thought happily.
A few moments later, Hermione got up and answered the door. Severus could tell right away something was wrong. He followed her to the sofa. Right away, Hermione told him about Luke having to leave.
“Hey it’s alright,” Severus sighed as he hugged his friend.
“I hate this. Being separated. I’m so tempted to say to hell with this. I want nothing more than to pack my things, get in my ship and take off to meet up with the Rebellion,” Hermione said.
“What’s stopping you?” he asked.
“Severus, I can’t just abandon the Order. I know I want to help Luke, Leia, Han, and the Rebellion against the Empire, but I do have obligations here as well,” she answered.
‘Rebellion? Empire? No! Surely she can’t mean THE Empire!’ Wormtail gasped.
“Yes you have obligations here, obligations that ended when your Aunt and Uncle were killed. Listen to me. You are a witch yes, but you are first and foremost a Jedi. My advice to you is to meditate on this. Ask the Force where you should be. Should you remain here or join Luke and the Rebellion against the Empire,” Severus replied calmly.
“Will you stay with me while I do? I feel I need to know tonight. As if everything is riding on this one decision. If I don’t know now, I won’t be of any help to anyone,” Hermione requested.
Severus nodded. Hermione moved to sit in the middle of the living room floor. She took several deep breaths before slipping into a meditative state. Severus sat on the sofa and got comfortable. He knew this could take a while. He himself knew that the Force didn’t always show you direct answers, but mainly different paths to take. Of course with Hermione, things never followed tradition.

Hermione saw different scene flashing before her eyes. Finally the visions slowed and she saw two different paths. One was her fighting alongside Harry, Ron, Severus, and the Order. She saw them battling Death Eaters and Voldemort. As she studied the vision, she saw she was a good ten to fifteen years older than she currently was.
The second vision was her fighting alongside Luke, Leia, Han, and the Rebels. She watched herself being reunited with Luke and the Empire being defeated. Then she found herself surrounded in darkness.
“Hello? Who’s there?” Hermione called out as she sensed she wasn’t alone.
“Answers you seek Jedi Granger,” a voice answered.
“Who are you?” Hermione demanded.
“A friend of you I am,” the voice replied.
Hermione looked up as a small green creature appeared before her. Instantly, she knew who it was and bowed to him. “Master Yoda,”
“Young Skywalker told you about me he did,” Yoda smiled.
“Why are you here Master?” she asked.
“Confused you are. To help you I am,” he replied.
“I don’t understand,” she admitted.
“Torn you are. Two paths laid before you there is. A choice to make you must. One path to lead you to Skywalker. The other to your friends,” Yoda said.
“Master Yoda, I have loyalties to both causes. Yet my heart belongs to Luke. No offence Master, but I don’t agree with Jedi being forbidden to love. Yes love can be a distraction, but it can also be a powerful ally,” she stated.
“Perfect the old Jedi Order was not. Together you and Skywalker belong. Rebuild the Order together you two will,” Yoda nodded.
“That’s what my father said,” she agreed.
“A smart man your father was. Your choice you must make,” Yoda instructed.
“How will I know which one is right?” she questioned.
“The Force. Guide you it will. Where you belong it will lead you,” he answered.
In that instant, Hermione felt the Force wash over her. She now knew where she needed to be. Where she was meant to be. She looked up to see Yoda smiling brightly at her.
“Your answers you now have?” he inquired.
“Yes I do. Thank you Master Yoda,” she bowed.
“May the Force be with you. Jedi Knight Granger,” he returned the bow.

Severus jerked awake when he felt a hand on his shoulder. “Hermione? Did you find your answers?” he asked as he sat up.
“I did. Thanks to an old friend. Come on, you can use my guest room. I’m going to need your help tomorrow. If your free that is,” she replied.
“Tomorrow’s Saturday and the school is out for the summer. I’m all yours,” he smiled.
As the two headed upstairs, Wormtail snuck out of his hiding place. He couldn’t believe all the things he heard. He moved around downstairs before finding an open window in the kitchen.
‘I have to report this immediately,’ he thought as he hopped out the window.
He ran into the woods before turning back into his human form. After walking a few more feet from the house, he apparated away. He arrived at the Death Eater stronghold and hurried to his Master.
“Wormtail, you better have some information,” Voldemort hissed.
“I do my Lord. Your suspicious were warranted. The mudblood is not only a witch but a Jedi Knight as well,” Wormtail reported as he bowed.
“She’s a what?” Voldemort gasped.
“A Jedi Knight. For the past two weeks, a man was staying with her. I believe his name was Luke Skywalker and I think he’s a Jedi too. It wasn’t until tonight I found out she was a Jedi,” Wormtail answered.
“Where is this man now?” Voldemort demanded.
“He left. They said something about him rescuing someone named Han. After he left, Granger called Snape. He has betrayed you my Lord. He and Granger are friends and I believe he knows something about the Jedi as well. He advised her to meditate and ask the Force for advice about something,” Wormtail explained.
Voldemort’s eyes glowed red. “I will deal with him. You have done well my servant. You shall be handsomely rewarded,”
“You are too kind my Lord,” Wormtail bowed.
