Take That Look Off Your Face
Her eyes went wide. “Severus— what are you doing here?” she felt naked. The dressing gown was full length, and although it was thin, it covered her completely. That did not keep his eyes from seeing right through it, as if he could see right through her completely. The feeling was even more uncomfortable than having been alone in the cold room.
“Take that look of surprise off your face,” he muttered and the pushed the door shut.
There was silence between them for a moment.
“I didn’t know what else to do.”
“You didn’t think that talking to me about this sort of decision would—”
“You didn’t seem to have a reaction before.” She muttered.
Severus stayed quiet for a few moments, turning it over in his head. The girl was right, but he honestly hadn’t known how to react. Not after what Minerva had said. He’d known right from the off, of course, that the girl had fallen pregnant. He had been surprised that she’d taken as long as she had to tell him, but he figured that she had wanted to be sure. Wizards just knew these things.
“What do you think we should do?” she asked.
His thoughts were stirred from his mind as his eyes gazed into hers. “I honestly don’t know.” He said. It was the truth. Their relationship, if one could call it that, wasn’t solid or grounded in much more than their physical interactions, though he did find her companionable and they did have a lot in common; shared a similar level of intellect and worldly interest. She was young, and he much older, and in the bigger picture perhaps it wasn’t the best of ideas.
“I don’t know why I thought it was exciting news.” She said.
“It is.” He said and then closed his eyes. “It can be, for…people who are ready…couples who…” he let his voice trail off.
The door swung open and in walked Poppy. “Now Miss Gra— oh, goodness!’ she cried, seeing Severus standing next to the girl.
“Take that look off your face,” the both said.
“Well,” she huffed and spun around, leaving once more.
