Chapter 8: Boredom

Chapter 8: Boredom

The first week on the island went by fairly quickly as they tried to adjust. During the day Hermione explored with Lucius by her side sketching the sites beautifully as they went. Sometimes Severus would join them and other times he was happy to just tour the island on his own scouting for potions ingredients.

Things were uncomfortable at times and Hermione felt a bit like a favored toy being fussed over by siblings. She had not had sex with Severus again, not for lack of trying on his part. Lucius however, was slowly seducing her, pulling her into secluded places where he would kiss her until she didn’t know up from down. Her confusion was growing by leaps and bounds with every day.

It wasn’t helping that she slept between them every night. Neither of them willing to sleep on the floor, in another room or even to transfigure three single beds instead of the one, mammoth sized bed they shared. Their excuse was that it was just safer, even though the ‘creatures’ outside had not even touched the castle since that first night. She had tried sleeping on the floor only to wake up in the bed flanked by the two wizards, one of them having picked her up and carried her to bed while she slept.

She believed they just wanted to make sure she wasn’t sleeping with either of them without the other’s knowledge. It was certainly an experience, sleeping in the same bed with two men she had carnal knowledge of. She once slept with Harry and Ron, but it had been more like siblings sharing a bed, this held a certain degree of excitement that she was ashamed to admit.

Sleeping between them brought up certain…thoughts that to most people would seem deviant. It was the morning that she woke up lying against Lucius, one arm thrown over his chest and her thigh draped over his hips, Severus was pressed into her back and she could feel both of the wizard’s morning erections pressing into her. Her breath caught and her body immediately heated as forbidden, taboo thoughts began to flit through her head.

Those thoughts were tormenting her as she sat all alone in the library with various books scattered around her. She had only found one other journal belonging to the same cleric who had penned the previous one. She discerned from the writing that once upon a time an order of mages was set up by Lancelot to look over the island and the people of Camelot while he went in search of an heir to the Pendragon family.

He would return periodically to bring a new mage with him, and then he came no more, leaving the previous mage to die and the island unattended. She had hoped to find a definitive answer to the age old speculation that Lancelot was Nimue’s son, but it was never mentioned in the journals. Her brain was tired and her mind was wandering too often into the fantasy realm so she decided that perhaps it was time to call it a night.

She blew out the candles and walked to the bedroom a few doors down. Severus was sitting on the bed reading a book and snacking on an orange he had picked from the orchards out back. The veranda doors were open, the cool, rain scented breeze blowing through the curtains. From outside she could hear the sound of Lucius’s voice calling out various hexes.

”What on earth is he doing?” She asked, staring at the open doors.

“He’s bored.” Severus said. He didn’t even look up from his book; he just bit into another slice of orange and turned the page.

Hermione walked out onto the small balcony and watched as Lucius threw an aquamenti spell at one of the creatures wandering around outside. She peered over the rail and saw one covered in bat bogeys, one on fire and another one flat on its back with its legs locked together.

“Lucius, why are you torturing those things?” She asked, watching as one of them flew into the darkness after he threw a stupefy in its direction.

“I’m bored, besides, they don’t feel anything.” He said, tossing out a reducto and watching as another one dissolved into a pile of ash.

“How do you know that?” She asked.

“Look at them, they are rotting! Don’t you think that is far more painful than a few hexes?” He asked.

“Lucius, that one is on fire.” She said, looking at the blazing corpse walking in circles.

“The rain will put him out again soon enough.” He shrugged.

“You know you could try reading a book instead of getting target practice using those poor pathetic creatures.” She said, jumping slightly when lightening flashed overhead and illuminated the beings moving around without purpose across the island.

“I was reading, but I couldn’t concentrate, all I could think about was you.” He said softly. Moving over to stand behind her so he could wrap his arms around her.

“Trying to charm me?” She asked, leaning back into him, enjoying the strength in his arms, the feel of being held. She let the spicy scent of him envelope her as she absorbed his warmth.

“I wouldn’t dream of it, my charm doesn’t work on you, you mentioned it once before.” He said smiling.

“I’ve said a lot of things in regards to you that seem to have been untrue.” She said. “You have managed to get under my skin, Lucius, and I don’t like it at all.”

“Now that makes me happy.” He said. “The part about me being under your skin, not that you don’t like it.”

“You are complicating my life. Things were fine the way they were, then you have to come along.” She sighed.

“I’m sorry you see it that way, but from my perspective things weren’t so wonderful. A life without love is no life at all.” He said, kissing her temple.

“It isn’t without love.” She said defensively. “I love my friends, I love Severus.”

“But are you in love with him?” He asked.

“It isn’t like that with us, I told you that once before.” She said, uncomfortable.

“Don’t get defensive, Sweets.” He whispered, tightening his arms around her. “I meant nothing by it.”

“You confuse me, Lucius. Why did you have to come here?”

“I told you why, because I needed to know you were alright.” He said. He moved his hand up to cradle her chin and turn her face to the side and up. He looked into her eyes, his thumb brushing over her lower lip. “Even if I go back to Azkaban for it, it was worth it.”

“Don’t say that. I don’t want you to go back; the thought of you going back there makes me ill.” She said.

“Then don’t think about it. Let me kiss you instead.” He whispered lowering his head to cover her lips with his. He kissed her gently, his lips moving with hers in a slow, sensual glide. Their tongues slipping out to touch briefly, lightly as they shared the tender moment in the still of the night.

Lucius pulled back first, smiling down at her glazed eyes and flushed cheeks. He could kiss her for hours and not get tired of the taste of her. He hated that they were once again confined, forced together because of magic. He hoped he would have the chance to woo her outside the boundaries of a spell.

“It’s time for bed.” He whispered.

“But Severus…” She rasped.

“I meant to sleep, Sweets, not to make love.” He chuckled. “Nice to know you’ve been thinking about it.” He said.

“I’ve been thinking a lot of things.” She muttered, slipping from his arms and back through the balcony doors.

“What is that supposed to mean?” He asked, following her inside.

“Nothing, I was just talking to myself, thinking out loud.” She said, sitting on the edge of the bed near Severus’s feet. She pulled one foot up, her heel on the edge of the mattress, as she unlaced her boot.

“You can’t just say something like that to a wizard and expect him not to get curious.” Lucius said.

“What are you two on about?” Severus asked, closing his book and setting it on the bedside table.

“Hermione said she’s been thinking about things involving sex but she is unwilling to share what those things are.” Lucius said. Hermione laughed and set her boot on the floor before lifting the other foot to remove the other one.

“If I shared every sexual thought I had then I would be talking about it all day.” She said.

“Thinking about it that often are you?” Severus asked.

“As often as any woman might.” She said. “Perhaps more so given I sleep between two handsome virile wizards.”

“Are you implying that you have been fantasizing about it?” Severus asked. He had been teasing her for years about expanding her sexuality and engaging in a threesome. It had been primarily a joke, not that he was against the idea, he just never figured she would be brave enough to try it.

“What…you don’t mean you’ve been thinking about having the both of us….together?” Lucius was a bit surprised, not that he was a prude, not by a long shot he just hadn’t been one for playing games in the bedroom involving more than one partner.

“Maybe.” She said, flashing him that naughty smile as she walked across the room to the bathing chamber unbuttoning her shirt as she went. She dropped it just before she went inside and closed the door.

“That damned witch is going to be the death of me.” Lucius muttered as he kicked off his shoes and went into the wardrobe to change into a pair of gray sleep pants he had transfigured from an old pair of breeches.

“Bold little baggage isn’t she?” Severus laughed.

“You don’t think she’s serious do you?” Lucius asked, walking back towards the bed, passing Severus as he went to change as well.

“That she’s been thinking about it? Oh yes, she’s serious.” Severus said, entering the wardrobe.

“Doesn’t that offend you?” Lucius asked as he propped himself up on his side of the bed. “I mean you’ve been her lover for years, doesn’t the idea that perhaps you aren’t enough bother you?”

Severus walked out of the wardrobe wearing a pair of black, loose fitting drawstring pants with an odd smile on his face.

“It isn’t about not being enough, Lucius. It’s about sharing your lover, expanding their pleasure, taking a chance to explore.” He said as he climbed into the other side of the bed and tucked his wand beneath the pillow.

“How could you want to share her?” Lucius asked, staring at the bathroom door.

“For all her inexperience, she is a rather adventurous lover, open to most anything. I think she would be a delight to share, to see her let go that way. She has difficulty just accepting pleasure, letting go of her control.” Severus closed his eyes as he leaned back against the pillows, his ankles crossed.

“Why haven’t you ever set it up then?” Lucius asked.

“She was never ready and she never took me seriously.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Her boldness has its limitations.”

“Ha! Seems like her boldness has no limitations.” Lucius said. Severus rolled his head to the side and stared at his friend.

“Don’t let her rough exterior fool you into believing that, Lucius. She’s just as soft, just as easily hurt as anyone else. She just hides it really well.” Severus said quietly.

“Learned from the best did she?” Lucius asked.

“I taught her to protect herself more than just physically.” He said, looking up when he heard the sound of a door opening.

Hermione opened the bathing chamber door and smiled when she saw the two wizards, shirtless and leaning back against the pillows. She had compared them before in her head but they really were a sight to see side by side. Dark and light on either side of the bed, the space in the center reserved for her. Both were smiling at her and she felt like the most wanted witch in all of Britain, and the most confused.

How could she choose between them? She closed her eyes for a moment and walked around the room blowing out the candles. She was wearing a long, sleeveless white gown that tied at her throat, and nothing else. She went to the balcony and closed the doors, latching them securely before she blew out the candles on the bedside table and crawled over Severus, she paused halfway and kissed him lightly on the lips.

“Night, Sev.” She said softly before moving to the center of the bed. Her eyes met Lucius’s in the dim light offered by the fire in the hearth. “Goodnight to you too.” She whispered, brushing her lips over his before settling into the mattress on her stomach between them.
