Diagon Alley

Sorry for the delay I was at camp working on staff. Here’s the next chapter enjoy.

Chapter 8 Diagon Alley

The next day, the Hogwarts letter arrived.
“The letters are early this year.” Inquired Mr. Weasley as he handed everyone his or her letter.
“The books are very expensive Mum. We also have to pay for Harriet’s stuff as well.” Said Ginny.
“We’ll manage, dear.”
At that Hermione screamed, “I got Head Girl!” We all turned to her congratulating her on her accomplishments. I gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I thought I saw he blush some and I quickly pulled away. I know it was wrong but I was staring to love Hermione. I knew that it would hurt Harry but these feelings were not something that I could push away anymore. Merlin knows I tried to but they kept coming back to haunt me. I turned to Harry to see if he noticed what I did. He was staring at something that was on the floor, so I guess he knew. I felt a feeling of guilt fill my stomach. There was nothing I could say or do that would make this better at all.
“Wow, Harry! You're Quidditch Captain!” I said a little shocked trying to distract him from what happened.
“And I’m Head Boy, too,” Ron exclaimed.
“This calls for a celebration! We will have one tonight! A Head Girl and Boy and Quidditch Captain all within the family! This really sounds like a celebration. I’m so happy for all of you,” Mrs. Weasley said, as she gave all of them a breath-taking hug only letting go when their faces started to turn blue.
“Oh, about the supplies, Harry, Hermione and I have an idea about the books. I can borrow their books, robes and stuff. Hermione has enough to let me wear some. Then Harry will buy my wand. It will be simple, if I get into Gryffindor. I must get into Gryffindor,” I said quickly.
“Oh no, no dear that will not be necessary we will fix you up with everything you need. How do you know you can be in your 6th year? You haven’t gone to school have you?”
“Well,” Hermione responded quickly, “I’ve been teaching her over the time she was here. She has learned all of 1st year material in the first week. We have about one more week to go. At this rate we will be able to finish her 4th year by school.”
“Impressive, but you still have one year to go to be at the same level as the rest of the students.” Percy said. I smiled and gave him a nod, “Yeah, I can do it even if means I teach myself at night and on the train. I’m going to be in the same house and grade.” I said with a note of determination in my voice. I would not give up until I was successful.
“Let’s get to Diagon Alley.” Fred and George said in unison.
“I want to see my girlfriend.” Said Fred. We all laughed and left.

Our first stop was the bookstore. There we met up with a blonde named Draco Malfoy. Everyone’s face changed as they saw him come over. This was disaster waiting to happen. I knew I would have to do something to stop it before it happens. I pulled out my ponytail, shook my head a bit, and ran my fingers through my hair to get it out the crease from the ponytail. I put on a charming, sweet, drop-dead smile and an innocent face. At first no one seemed to notice my change but they slowly turned to me as I pushed through the group to get to the front before Malfoy could get to them.
“Look who it is Mudblood, Weasel, and Potter.” Malfoy said I knew that I probably wouldn’t like him but I put on my act anyway.
“Hey.” I said softly “What’s you name?” I gave him a flirty smile and walked up to him.
He smiled back and said “Draco Malfoy. You are?”
“Harriet. What house are you in? I assume you go to Hogwarts.”
“Slytherin.”
“Really, I heard a lot about it. I hope I get in there. I’m new from the States. My family moved here right after the end of term. These were the first people I met. Well, we'd better get going. We still have a lot to buy. See ya in school.” I said then under my breath I muttered, “Handsome.” We all walked out with Malfoy staring off after me. When we got outside and away from the store I burst out laughing and I put my hair back up after all it was a hot day. “You should have seen your faces when I started to talk to him. Let me ask you one thing. DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD LIKE A BOY LIKE HIM?! I was just trying to prevent trouble.”
“You’re a good actress.” Said George grumbled.
“Thank you. I’m sorry if it bothered anyone I just thought you would have liked that better then him getting on your back.” I said looking down as I felt blush creeping up under the intense stares of the other people. I began to think that they hadn’t wanted me to do that. My heart fell thinking that I just offended everyone. So I slowly turned to walk to the wand shop away from the others. I soon felt a pair of arms wrap around me and Ginny's voice saying “Hey, we’re glad you did that. We’re just surprised about how you did it. Please don’t be sad. No one is mad.”
She was breathing on my neck making shivers run down my spine. I never felt like that before, all I knew was that I liked it and wanted to be with her more. It also frightened me and I pulled away saying quietly, “Thank you Ginny.” She nodded looking in my eyes with a bit of longing. It was too much for me and I had to turn away. We all headed to Ollivander’s Wand shop.
We all walked in with the others still trying to comfort me. An old man greeted us. He wore glasses and had a strange sounding voice. He was nice, though he seemed to have seen too much of the world in his lifetime. I smiled and nodded to him.
“Ahh, Weasley’s and Potter what a pleasant surprise. Who are you miss? I don’t recognize you. That is very odd, you see, 'cause I know everyone that walks in. Remember every wand as well.” Ollivander said.
“Harriet Johnson sir, my family just moved from the States and I lost my wand along the way.”
“Well let’s see what we have here.” He moved to the back looking through wands. “Here we are.” He handed to me and I gave it a small wave. It broke the glass in the window.
“Sorry,” I said shyly,
“No problem, I can fix it later. Try this one.” This time it made the lamp fly and break. We went through all the wands in the shop but none of them worked the shop looking like a tornado when through it. Ollivander was shocked and a bit annoyed. He began to start over again thinking that maybe we missed one.
When Ron handed his want to me and said “Try mine ours are the only one left untried.”
”Ron that is very kind of you but wands only chooses one person yours can’t work on me can it?” I responded.
“Well none of the other ones work so maybe Mr. Weasley is right.” Ollivander said looking unconvinced. I took the wand with a nod and tried each person’s wand and had no luck with them until Harry’s. As he handed over his wand I knew before I did anything it would work. I felt it s warmth the minute it hit my hand and when I put my palm around it I felt a rush of wind. There were flashes of green, red, blue, and yellow surrounded me, before it quickly disappeared. Everyone staring at me, I began feeling very uncomfortable.
“What?” I asked, “Harry’s wand worked for me that is a good thing, right? Why are you all staring at me?”
“I remember every wand I ever sold. It just happens that the tail feather that resides in Harry’s wand gave one other just one other. It’s strange that you should be tested for this wand then its brother is owned by the most feared wizard of the time.” Said Ollivander
“Who owns that wand?” I ask
“We do not speak his name but I will tell you this. He murdered many people including Harry’s parents. The wand chooses its master it’s not clear why, but like Harry it is clear that we can expect big things from you.”
“Is there any way I can be tested for another wand?” I asked I was a bit scared I didn’t like the idea of some murder having my brother wand.
“No, as like you said before the wand chooses its master.”
“Ok, will the bird be willing to give another feather?” I realized that there was no hope in a different one. So I would play along and hope for the best.
“I will contact Dumbledore and ask. This might take awhile.”
“How long?” asked Mrs. Weasley.
“A few weeks at the most.” He said then turning to me, “you will be going to Hogwarts. Right?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Good. I can give the wand to Dumbledore and he can give it to you.” His voice sounded unsteady and a little scared of the whole situation. Slowly people were coming out of their shock of the incident. He asked me a few questions and we left.
We stopped by the Leaky Cauldron for lunch where we met up with Neville Longbottom and Seamus Finnigan, two friends from Hogwarts. I liked Neville in his own way. He was clumsy and still had his little baby-cute look, but at the same time he had a handsome teenage look. Seamus was a little strange, if not mean at first. After we started to talk, I liked him a little more. He puts himself up for show and I wondered why. I know in the end I would find out and it probably wouldn’t be what I wanted to know. It always seemed to happen that way. We all sat to eat, the kids at one table and adults at another. I learned a lot about Hogwarts in that short amount of time. I looked up and saw Malfoy sitting at the counter with someone who looked like his father. I was in mid sentence and stopped immediately looking bored before he could see us getting along. I stood up as I saw he walk towards me.
“Hi” I said in my same shy but seductive why. I made sure I was away from the table. I didn’t want to have another repeat of the book shop.
“Hello, my father wants to meet you. He’s over there by the counter.” I nodded and he continued as we walked to the long blond haired man. “I talked him about you and he is very interested in you.”
Before he could say anymore I walked up to Mr. Malfoy as he turned around and said with a smile. “It’s my pleasure to meet you Mr. Malfoy, sir.” I said extending my hand. “My name is Harriet.”
He nodded looking at my gloved hand then taking it “I know. Draco has told me about you. What is your last name?”
“Johnson, sir.” I said. The same last name that I used at the wand shop. It was best to tell one story and stay with it. I didn’t even tell the others about who I truly was. I kept up my facade, but it felt wrong touching his hand. It was very cold to the touch, even through my gloves I felt a shiver go down my spine as though he was pure ice. I had a way of knowing if someone was good or not through their touch. This guy was almost pure evil. I pulled away as soon as it was politely allowed.
He asked, “What is your family like?”
“My moms a witch and works with a secret organization. My dad’s a muggle,” I said this disgustedly. “He’s a businessman and his company just shipped him out here. I have no brothers or sisters. Sorry, sir, my food has just arrived. Draco, I can’t wait to see you in school. Maybe you can give me a tour of the castle. I would hate to get lost.”
“Of course I would love to Harriet.” He said “I will see you real soon.” I waved goodbye and turned back to the table. I hoped that the others told Neville and Seamus about my act.
Luck wasn’t on my side. I slipped into my seat next to Ginny and looked up. I explained about the act once again to the new comers and apologized. I got the same response ‘You’re a good actress’. I knew I was a good actress. I had to fool Mrs. Corellas all of the time. But why did they keep saying that like there were upset about it? It made me think that I was doing something wrong. No one said anything for a few minutes as I thought it over. A thought came to me and I realized they thought I was acting around them or something. They thought I didn’t like them but was acting so I wouldn’t hurt their feelings.
“I just want all of you to know.” I said suddenly, “That you were my first friends in the wizarding world and for that I am very grateful for that. I would not act around you and I’m beginning to love you, all of you. I know you don’t believe me but I’m glad that I have the time to become your friend.”
“We believe you” Ginny and Hermione said together. Neville leaned over the table to give me a light hug. I sighed with relief.
“It’s just a bit nerve-wracking to see you being nice to him. He is such a bloody arse.” Said Ron.
“Ron, watch your language!” Hermione scolded.
“Actually he has been rather nice to me. I would never go out with him or anything. I think there is something underneath everything that he isn’t showing. That he isn’t as bad as you all make him out to be if you got to know him. I think I would be fun to try and find who the real Draco is. So if I spend more time with him don’t be alarmed, ok?” I said.
“NO!” Ron yelled.
“Sure, that could be interesting if you want help, ask.” Said Hermione.
“Harriet, I don’t know.” said Harry all at the same time.
“Ok then. I’ll think about it and get back to you. It seems like some of you are uncomfortable about this.” I responded and the conversation was over. After we ate they gave me a tour of Diagon Alley and we went home. By this time it was late afternoon to early evening and the sun was just staring to set.
