Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
The outcome.
Sorry about the slow posting. My work is very busy at Christmas. I expect this month I will be slow.
Umbridge was on the warpath. Students were using their purchases of the Skiving Snack boxes to get out of class, and the halls were flooded so badly in certain parts that it wasn’t uncommon for people to be seen wearing bubble headed charms just to get by.
Chaos reigned in the name of Peeves and now that scene with the Twin’s was the stuff of legends. Malfoy was rarely seen outside of the company of the two moron’s Crabbe and Goyle, and Umbridge kept them tightly besides her. Hermione was ashamed to say she missed him a great deal.
Hermione had almost given up entirely on her studies, simply because very little school was happening. Hermione was in the library when it happened.
“Hermione!!” cried Harry as he ran over with Ron. “We need to sneak into Umbridge’s office to get to Snuffles. He is in danger,”
Hermione paled and she stood up. “But, we can’t Harry. She will have us expelled or worse,” Hermione sighed.
“Snuffles is in danger, bugger that old bat!” Harry punched the wall next to him. Hermione flinched at the movement and she grabbed his hand, kissing the bruised flesh.
“Okay, we can try,” murmured Hermione.
A half hour later, everything went terribly wrong. Umbridge had a death grip on Harry, and she was calling for Veritaserum. Professor Snape was there, and he was denying her request for more potions. Hermione began to think hard. Then Draco appeared. He leaned up against the wall and stared coldly at her.
“You are going to get what you deserve, Mudblood,” sneered Draco. His eyes seemed cold and unreachable.
Hermione turned away from him and stared at the wall thinking hard. Umbridge began to talk about the Cruciatius. No, she could not let her do that to Harry. She just could not.
“Okay!! I’ll tell you…,” sobbed Hermione. Draco looked surprised, as did the rest of the occupants in the room.
“Hermione no!!” screamed Harry, and Ron shook his head vehemently at her.
Hermione fake sobbed again and shook her head, not looking them in the face. “We have to talk to Dumbledore!! We went looking for him everywhere. Down at Hogsmeade….”
“You stupid girl, Dumbledore wouldn’t be at a BAR,” hissed Umbridge in disgust and she moved back towards Harry, with a fanatical glow in her eyes as she raised her wand.
“We need to tell him that the weapon is ready….”stammered Hermione, choking back another sob.
“…Weapon?” replied Umbridge coolly as she turned back to Hermione, giving her Umbridge’s full attention.
“We must tell him that the weapon for Dumbledore’s Army is ready for him,” gasped Hermione and she pressed her face into her hands. Her heart was pounding a mile a minute. Draco was staring suspiciously at her.
“What does this weapon do?” murmured Umbridge, cornering Hermione now.
“We don’t know!! Dumbledore never told us, we are just children,” sobbed Hermione.
Umbridge smiled then, showing wide, even teeth that brightened her piggish face up. “Take me to this weapon,” commanded Umbridge, gripping Hermione’s arm tightly.
“Only, you, they can’t come!” shrieked Hermione, pointed at Draco and his cronies.
“Ms. Granger, you are not in a position to make demands of me,” responded Umbridge icily.
“Fine, I hope they do come. I hope they use the weapon on all of you!!!” screamed Hermione hysterically.
“Very well, just me and you…. And POTTER,” Umbridge grasped Potter by the shoulder and swung him around and shoved him into Hermione.
“Headmistress Umbridge, I don’t think this is a good idea,” interjected Draco, with a frown. His cold eyes on Hermione tearless face.
“Duly noted Mr. Malfoy, but I am sure I can handle two children. I am a member of the Ministry of Magic!” harrumphed Umbridge and she pulled them both with her.
As it would turn out, she could not.
After the fallout of the events at the Ministry, Draco clearly had chosen a path of destruction and Hermione was almost certain that she would never again be able to reach him. She decided to confront him on the train home.
Hermione snuck up behind Draco and pressed her wand into his shoulder. Malfoy spun around and sneered down at her, an ugly smile plastered on his beautiful face.
“Mudblood, to what do I owe this honor? Care for another shag, or something?” hissed Malfoy, and despite the wand, he slid the carriage door shut, drawing the curtains.
Hermione wet her lips and stared hard at the golden boy standing across from her.
“No. I wanted to know why you betrayed us. I know you saw us entering Umbridge’s office. It was you who told her about us,” Hermione said nervously, her eyes round with anguish. “I thought we had …”
“----- had what? Manipulated me so well that I would stay your lapdog forever? Do not be a fool Mudblood. I took you for the only value you have… between your legs,” whispered Draco cruelly.
Draco stalked forward, something bright burned hotly behind his silver eyes. Hermione gasped and stumbled backwards, her back hitting the window as he repeated her own words back to her. He overheard her talking to Ron.
“Draco I never meant…”
“Oh, now it’s Draco, when you want something from me. You are pathetic; you and your stupid trio. The Dark Lord will make sure you all suffer, I will see to that,” Draco’s words cut into her, and she began to cry.
Draco faltered slightly seeing tears streaming down her face, and they tugged at his heartstrings. She was just using him to get information for Potter; she never really cared about him. Draco tightened his fists.
“You were using me; you think I will change just because you spread your legs for me? You are not that bloody good Hermione,” Draco hissed and turned away from her.
Hermione caught the flicker of hurt in his gaze and his words lacked the necessary heat to them. Hermione gently touched his shoulder and Draco turned around, pressing her deeply into the wall, his mouth descended upon her own. It was if the barest touch scorched him and he was forced to respond. Draco devoured her mouth and jerked away from her suddenly, breathing harsh.
“Go, go now before I change my mind and I take everything you are offering me. The difference is that this time, I wont be able to share you. Get out of here,” he whispered raw, wiping his hand over his mouth, as if he was disgusted.
Hermione felt the tears swelling up and she fled the compartment.
“Besides, this time next year, we may both be dead,” muttered Draco to the empty compartment.
