Mutant VS. Magic
Chapter 7
Severus sat in the kitchen with a hot cup of coffee. He looked up just as Logan entered the kitchen. Logan poured himself a cup off coffee and dropped onto the stool across from Severus.
“How’s Hermione?” Severus asked.
“Sleeping. I’ve never seen her so broken. I don’t know what to do. What about Storm?” Logan sighed.
“She’s sleeping. I gave her a mild sleeping potion so she could at least rest. The students seemed shaken up at Scott’s announcement,” Severus answered.
“The Professor was a father to these kids. He protected them from everyone else who would rather kick them than talk to them just because they’re mutants,” Logan replied.
“I’m sure everything will work out. You mentioned you didn’t know what to do about Hermione, I’ll tell you. Just be there for her. When her parents were killed, she broke down. Luckily, she had me and her friends to help her. Of course, I don’t think you can count Ron as a friend anymore,” Severus explained.
“Why?” Logan questioned.
Before he could answer, Harry and Draco came into the kitchen. “Ron’s gone,” Draco said.
“What do you mean gone?” Severus demanded.
“We mean gone. His things are all packed and the window in his bedroom was wide opened. He must have snuck out shortly after you guys came back,” Harry answered.
“Okay, what the hell is going on?” Logan asked.
Harry, Draco, and Severus quickly filled him in on what had happened with Ron. How Ron snapped and believed he was actually in love with Hermione and grew angry whenever he saw her and Logan together.
“Should we tell Hermione?” Draco questioned.
“No!” Logan and Harry cried.
“At least not right away. Let’s see how she’s doing after the memorial service in the morning and then go from there,” Logan stated.

“I caught him sneaking into the camp,” Pyro said as he tossed Ron to the floor at Magneto, Jean, and Voldemort’s feet.
“Well, well. Ronald Weasley. What brings you here?” Voldemort asked as he fingered his wand.
“I came to join you,” Ron said as he got to his feet.
“Oh?” Voldemort replied.
“Yes. Hermione belongs to me, but I know she is being coerced by that mutant they call Wolverine. She’s mine,” Ron hissed.
“What makes you think she wants you boy?” Magneto asked.
“I know she does. She spent all of last year flirting with me and telling me she loves me. But now, this Wolverine guy has taken her from me,” Ron answered angrily.
“I hate to tell you this, but she was never yours. Hermione Granger was meant for Wolverine,” Magneto replied.
“None the less, we could always find some use for you. If you prove yourself worthy, you will be rewarded. Double-cross me, and you’ll die,” Voldemort hissed.
“Understood,” Ron nodded.

Hermione sat at the vanity in her and Logan’s bedroom brushing her hair. Logan slowly entered the room wearing a dark suit. A first for him. He leaned against the bed post and began speaking to her.
“Hermione, it’s time,” he said.
“No,” she replied hoarsely.
“Honey, we have to go,” he insisted.
“I can’t Logan. If I go, that’s like giving in or giving up. Accepting that Uncle Charles is gone. I can’t do that. I don’t know how,” she said as she jumped to her feet and tossed the brush across the room.
Logan walked over and pulled her into his arms. “Hermione, it’s not over. You know as well as I to never give up. That anything is possible,” he sighed.
“Logan, it hurts. It hurts to breath. I’m not strong enough to do this,” she cried.
“Yes you are. You will over come this. You’ll always have me and I will help you through this. Together we will get through. Right now, the X-Men and your friends need you. Even if you are falling apart at the seems, they still need you,” he said soothingly.
Hermione just clung to him. Drawing strength and love from him as he held her. She knew he was right and needed to pull herself together, at least to get through the memorial service.
“All right. Let’s go,” she replied.

“We live in an age of darkness…a world full of fear, hate, and intolerance. But in every age, there are those who fight against it. Charles Xavier was born into a world divided…a world he tried to heal…a mission he never saw accomplished. It seems the destiny of great men to see their goals unfulfilled. Charles was more than a leader, more than a teacher. He was a friend,” Storm paused as she looked out at those on the lawn.
Hermione sat in the front row, with Logan holding her and Scott patting her knee on her other side. Draco held Kitty, Rogue and Bobby held hands and Harry and Hank sat unmoving, like unwavering oak trees. Next to Scott was Severus who just tried to offer some kind of support to the others.
“When we were afraid, he gave us strength. And when we were alone, he gave us a family. He may be gone, but his teachings…live on through us, his students. Wherever we may go, we must carry on his vision. And that’s a vision of a world united,” Storm concluded.
Everyone rose to their feet. Clinging to Logan’s arm, Hermione and Logan stepped foreword. She laid a single pink rose at the foot of the stone. Suddenly, she dropped to the ground.
“Logan, is she all right?” Scott asked as he reached them first.
“Yeah, she just fainted. I’ll get her inside. This was just too much for her,” Logan sighed.
Logan gathered her into his arms and headed for the mansion. Severus and Storm walked up to Scott, followed by Harry and Draco. “She’ll be fine Scott. Hermione’s a lot tougher than people think,” Harry said.
“He’s right. She’ll come out stronger than ever once the initial shock wears off,” Severus added.

“So what now? What do we do?” Bobby asked. He, Kitty, Hank, Logan, Storm and Severus sat around Charles’ office.
“Professor Xavier started this school, perhaps it’s best that it end with him. We’ll have to tell the students they’re going home,” Hank answered sadly.
“Most of us don’t have anywhere to go. I can’t believe this. I can’t believe we’re not going to fight for this school,” Bobby said angrily.
Just then, a young man of about twenty-four, with blond hair entered the room. “I’m sorry. I know this is a bad time. I was told this was a safe place for mutants,” the man said.
“It was, son,” Hank replied.
“And it still is. We’ll find you a room. Hank, tell all the students this school stays open,” Storm insisted.
Severus smiled as the others smiled and nodded. “What’s your name kid?” Severus asked as he approached the man.
“Warren,” Warren answered.
“Welcome to Xavier’s School for the Gifted,” Severus said as he extended his hand to Warren.
“Thanks,” Warren smiled.
“Come on, I think I know the perfect place you can stay,” Severus replied, returning the smile.
