The Things We Did For Love

Chapter 8-Best Friends, and Broken Hearts.

(The Middle of April)


Everyone had just returned to school from the holidays, Andromeda was relieved to be back at school, this holiday had been bearable, but being away from Ted had been unbearable. Her birthday was slowly approaching and she knew exactly what she wanted. She looked around the Hufflepuff table for Ted, she finally found him, he was sitting between the Bones twins as usual, usually he would just be talking to Edgar but tonight he was chatting with Amelia, and one of them must have said something very funny because they were both laughing really hard, Amelia twisted her hair in her fingers, her face and eye lit up from Ted making her laugh so much. Andromeda watched her body language; it was obvious that Amelia had feelings for Ted. Amelia was beautiful, she was tall, with long blond hair that fell into curls at the bottom, her eyes were hazel, and she had this beauty mark on her right cheek that really pulled her features together. Andromeda thought she was very plain in comparison to Amelia. She was actually a bit jealous of Amelia, besides her beauty, she could talk to Ted in front of other people, they were in the same house so she was probably able to spend a lot more time with Ted then her, and she was pretty smart too.

Andromeda couldn't look at the two of them anymore, so she focused her attention some place else, she soon found her best friend Alice, she was sitting with Frank Longbottom, it was obvious that they were in love but they were both too stubborn and hard-headed to ever admit it to each other. They were always bickering with each other, even now they were fiting about something probably insignificant, she once witnessed them fight for almost twenty mins. over how many pages exactly there were in their Transfiguration's book, there was a four page difference in their answers, Frank ended up being the closest which apparently made him the winner. It was obvious that Frank really liked Alice because even though they fight all the time he isn't to proud to apologize or every once in awhile admit he was wrong, 'Frank was a true guy' she thought. He was also very handsome and most of the Gryffindor girls had crushes on him but he never gave any of them the time of day. But Andromeda could tell the feelings wouldn't be put on the table anytime soon. Frank was Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team and Alice was a Chaser. Andromeda enjoyed watching Quidditch matches but she certainly couldn't carry on a conversation about it, Rab and Lucius often disscussed their Quidditch views and she and Cissy were always completely lost.

She then shifted her attention to the staff table, and she came across Dumbledore who seemed to be looking at her! there was a twinkle in his eye, which he had most of the time, but this time it seemed a little different like he knew something or was planning something, he then gave her a small smile and lifted his glass as he took a drink from it. She then decided it was probably just her imagination and continued eating her meal.

Ted was enjoying a great back to school holiday feast, the week and a half away from Andromeda had been torture, however he had told his family all about her, he left out certain things the two of them had done, but explained that he was over the moon about her and that she had family problems that threatened their relationship. His mother was absolutely gleeful that her son was in love, his Dad seemed fine with it, his brother and sister however didn't believe that Andromeda even existed, it started with "What kind of a name is Andromeda, no one names their kid Andromeda! That’s like them naming them bloody Neptune or something!" exclaimed his sister Carly, "Yeah you probably just made her up." his brother Grant said laughing. They were both scolded by their Mother not to make fun of him, but Ted didn't care he knew that Andromeda was more than real.

"So Ted how was your holiday?" asked Amelia who was sitting to his right, he often sat in-between Amelia and Eddie, he always figured it was because she didn't want to sit next to her brother. Amelia was the only girl of four boys. Amelia and Eddie were pretty close, but she did often mention that her older brothers were pretty over protective. Ted thought back to what Eddie had said on Valentines Day, he really Amelia as a friend and hoped that she would find her happiness, it just wasn't with him. But he wouldn't act differently towards her, they were still friends.

"It was fine, Easter holiday is aways a challenge in my family, my Uncle and my Father don't get along and they spend the whole night fighting about things that happened when they were children that was apparently the others fault. My Grandfather has never really recovered from world war one and is constantly yelling aloud 'THE NAZI'S ARE COMING!!' and can't tell any story without refering it to the war, and if someone new is brought to dinner or something they're interigated until he is mostly satisfied that they aren't a spy. He once ran one of my sister's boyfriends out of the house because he thought he was a Russian spy. My sister is always a complete druken mess, this year she couldn't walk straight and she ended up breaking the heal of her shoe then tripped and then fell head first into the coconut cake my Grandmother made, it was really funny." Ted said laughing. Amelia started laughing as well, she always enjoyed Ted's stories about his dysfunctional family, although she no idea what war he was talking about or what a nazi was. But as long as Ted was talking and laughing with her thats all she cared about.

(Four nights later)

It was Ted's first patrol night back school, Quidditch would finally pick back up in a week, his only problems so far had been that he couldn't seem to find a moment alone with Andromeda since they've been back to school. Even tonight he didn't have patroling duties with her, he was going to patrol with Amelia tonight, and Andromeda would be patroling with Frank tonight. Ted decided he could either ambush her after her rounds or he could catch her after herbology tomorrow morning. He was hoping to catch her after her rounds though.

about an hour later he headed downstairs to the commonroom to meet up with Amelia, who was already waiting for him. When he reached the commonroom Amelia was talking with some of the other Hufflepuff fifth year girls, when he got closer Amelia could see him and she turned to her friends and them she had to go. She then got up and walked over to Ted, Amelia always had a slight bounce in her step when she walked, she was a perky, happy person, with hardly a care in the world. "Hey Ted! are you ready to go do our rounds?" she asked cheerfully. "Yeah, lets go" he said as the walked out of the Hufflepuff commonroom.

Andromeda was waiting for Frank outside of the Library to start their rounds, he took his studies very seriously and Andromeda admired that about him, it was nice to see that someone took their studies as seriously as she did. Frank was also Ted's best friend so she felt the need to know him a bit better, so her rounds should be perfect for that. A few minutes later Frank emerged from the Library, his hands were in his pockets as he walked towards her, he always walked tall and with confidence. Frank was very tall to begin with, Andromeda came to about his shoulder.

"Hey Andromeda, how are you?" Frank asked as he approached her

"Hey, I fine , and yourself?" she asked him back

"I'm good. Ready to get these rounds started?"

"Sure, let go" she said as they started of down the hallway

"So, are you worried about your OWLs? I know I'll do fine with chrams and transfigurations but I'm really worried about potions and defense against the dark arts." Amelia said trying to have a good conversation with Ted.

"Yeah I'm sorta worried about them, we all are. Transfigurations and Potions should go fine. if you're really that worried about them I could help you out, tutor you some." Ted offered

Amelia's heart pounded as he made her this gracious offer, "That is so nice of Ted thank you. I may have to take you up that offer. you're such a nice guy Ted!" she said smiling at him

"Yeah that me Ted the "nice Guy"" Ted said sarcasticly


"No! I mean it!" she said and then stopped walking so they could talk face to face "You aren't like other guy's Ted, you look at my face when you talk to me and not my breasts, you care about other things besides Quidditch, you really listen when anyone talks to you." she stepped closer to him "You're sweet, and considerate and funny, and really really cute."

"Amelia..." he started to say but was cut off when Amelia lunged for him. She wrapped her arms around his next and pulled him into a kiss.

At first the only thing Ted could do was stand there, he was in shock, 'is Amelia really kissing me ' he thought 'what the hell??'. he started to struggle a bit, but Amelia was relentless, he tried pushing her off but it was useless, he didn't want to physically hurt her but seemed like he was going to have to, until they heard voices of someone approaching, once those people entered the corridor Amelia pulled away and they both turned their heads to see who was there. Ted turned his head to see the last person he ever wanted to witness what had just happened, the girl he loved most in the world. Andromeda. She and Frank had been making their rounds and were taking a short-cut towards the dungeons when they then stumbled upon Ted and Amelia. Andromeda was totally frozen in shock at the scene before her.

"What the hell Ted!" Frank said angry at his best friend for what he had just witnessed. But Ted wasn't paying any attention to him, the only thing that Ted did was look at Andromeda trying to find the words that was going to fix the situation, however the only words that repeated in his head was 'oh shit what did i just do?'.

"We were just.." Amelia began before she could finish saying anything though, Andromeda bolted down the hallway from which she and Frank had came. It took Ted exactly four seconds to realize that Andromeda was running away, and he might never get her back

"DROMEDA!" he yelled as he sprinted after her

Andromeda couldn't stand the thought of Amelia finishing the sentence. She had to get away from them. 'hoe could Ted do this to me' she thought as she ran down the hall, tears flowing from her eyes. SHe could hear Ted calling her name behind her but she didn't stop, she made a few twists and turns through the halllways but then she came upon a dead end and had to stop, she really wished she had been old enough to apperate at that moment. Ted was only a few steps behinds her, both of them completely out of breath. Ted was hunched over with one hand in the air asking for her to give him a moment while he cathced his breath. They stood there panting for a good five minutes.

"Wow (pant) you run ...really fast" Ted said trying to lighten in the mood. But Andromeda didn't see the humor in it. She stood in front of him arms crossed and really pissed off. Ted finally gained control over his breathing and stood straight up and looked at her.

"Andromeda it's not what you think!" he started

"That's real original Ted!" she spat at him

"I didn't want to kiss her! she flung herself at me and I couldn't get her off!"

"Oh yeah you were really fighting her off there Ted!"

Neither one of them were paying attention to how loud the were being they were caught up in the moment, and they also seemed to forget they were only in a corridor.

"Yeah I was fighting her off,but she wasn't letting up, I was real close to possibly hurting her before you and Frank should up!"

Andromeda just wanted to be away from Ted, she didn't want to listen to these excuses, she was just to hurt. she tried to dash down the corridor to get away, but Ted grab her arm.

"Let me go!" she yelled at him

"No I not going to let you go!" Ted stepped closer to her and cupped his hands to her face and started to wipe her tears away,
"I not ever letting go of you" he said gently. "I dont want Amelia, I didn't feel anything in that kiss which she forced on me, you are the only one that I want Dromeda." he said trying to make her understand. His feelings shined through his eyes and spoke to her soul. she knew that he didn't have feelings for Amelia.

"I know" she said quitely but there was still hurt in her voice "But that doesn't make me any less jealous of her" she said sounding defeated

"Jealous? of Amelia? why?" He asked very confused

"Because Ted she doesn't need to sneek around to see you, your in the same house. you can be seen in public with her. and I'm mean lets face it shes goregous and everything I'm not!" She said

Ted merely shook his head and looked at her as if she were crazy
"Is that what you think? Dromeda you are the most beautiful girl in the world, don't ever doubt that. Amelia's pretty but she doesn't hold a candle to you. And as for being ablt to be seen in public with me, well... someday soon Andromeda you and I will be able to walk down these hallways without fear." he said. she steped closer to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, he pulled her the rest of the way into the embrace. And they just held each other for awhile.

However their embrace was interrupted, by someone clearing their throat. The two of themturned to see that at the end of the corridor was both Professor McGonagoll and Professor Dombledore.

"Perhaps the two of you should return to your houses, it past cerfew" said Professor McGonagoll with a smile smile, Professore Dumbledore was smiling as well. Ted and Andromeda didn't say anything and did as they were told.

(Back in the Hufflepuff commonroom)

Ted hadn't been to worried about getting caught by their Professors. As he walked into the commonroom he could see that Amelia was waiting for him. Everyone else had gone up to bed so they were all alone. She was sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace. Ted walked over taking the seat next to her

"Frank told me everything" she said looking at him. Ted wasn't quite sure what to say.

"I feel so stupid, you must think I'm crazy for throwing myself at you like I did, not to mention angry" she said

"No! Amelia, no. I don't think your crazy. and I not angry. If anything I owe you an apology. You're my friend, I should have told you about me and Andromeda. If I lead you on in anyway I am truely sorry." said Ted

"No you didn't lead me on I was just foolish. And I know you have feelings for Andromeda I just didn't think the two of you would ever get together." she said

"I didn't think we would either. Are we still friends?" he asked

"Of course we are Ted." She said

"I love you like a sister you know" he said with a smile

"And here I thought four brothers were enough" Amelia said laughing, and Ted started laughing too. It had been a long night.
