Draco's Big Secret
Welcome back to the madness that tries to pass itself off as my imagination. I have finally gotten the chance needed to update some of these fics. Enjoy!!
Chapter Eight: Draco's Big Secret
As Harry and Ron rose to leave the room the boy-who-lived caught the gaze of the blond-haired Slytherin and he smiled.
Malfoy and he had been talking earlier about their plans when the adults figured out what they could about the spell.
Harry had listened to Draco talk about his family and childhood memories, telling the brunet just what he would teach his sons about and even how Draco hoped to have at least one daughter to make up for a lost sister that would have been two years younger than him.
Harry had gotten wistful at the idea of a family, parents as well as children to raise, and his mind had wandered fields of fantasy that had him playing with a cute little girl of two or three. Her blonde hair was held up in two pigtails and she smiled as she poured him pretend tea at a tiny white table and he scrunched up on a tiny matching chair.
Now, as Draco caught his arm and held him back, that vision returned and his cheeks pinked brightly because of it.
“Good look for you, Potter.” the blond said with a smirk. “It that for me?”
“A little.” Harry admitted as he remembered his other thought, that one was of a heavily pregnant blond man trying to rise from the couch of the prefect’s lounge.
“Really?” Draco smirked. “They’ve narrowed things down. It was all Granger’s spell. She was looking for appreciation and she wanted it from more than just Weasley. It spread to the person you were grateful to, or appreciated for something. No one in Slytherin was likely to make me feel that way.”
“Well, that and you were alone through most of it,” Harry injected.
“So, why did it pass to me? Tell me, Potter. What could you have found to appreciate in me?” Draco asked.
Harry thought for a moment before answering. “Consistency.”
“What?” Draco returned.
“That’s it. You are consistent. You’ve never really tried to hurt me. Embarrass me, yes. But, never hurt me.” Harry concluded.
“And that made me irresistible?” Draco asked with a sneaky smile.
Harry chuckled lightly, “No, but I appreciated it. Even though you teased me, and likely planned to use it against me later, I did want someone to walk me back to the tower. And you did, in your own way.”
“Harry, I just walked with you.” Draco insisted.
“Yeah, weird huh?” Harry said with a chuckle.
“Miss Granger?” Lucius said as Hermione passed him on her way to the Great Hall. “I wonder if I might have a word? There are some issues with the spell that you may have some insight to.”
The girl stopped and looked at him, unsure about being alone in the company of a known Death Eater, but curious about what could have stumped a renowned magician.
“I . . .I just c-can’t . . .” she said waving her arm toward the doors.
“Oh, I understand. I thought we could speak in the presence of a few of your teachers. Madam Hooch and Mr. Hagrid are waiting in here.” Lucius said pointing to a classroom door. “Please, I have ordered a special meal and it is a very important matter . . .a matter that may change the course of life for my family.”
Hermione nodded softly then walked up the short flight of stairs to the waiting classroom.
Inside, Madam Hooch was showing Hagrid a new broom that was set on the desk at the front. They looked up as Lucius and Hermione entered.
“Oi, Mione. Look ere at the new brooms the Malfoys got fer Ron and Harry.” Hagrid said.
When she looked harder, she noticed the second broom behind the first.
“Yes, a Nimbus 20/20. The latest model. Quite a good broom, Lucius. I am impressed.” Hooch said turning away and standing solidly nest to the desk, her fists resting on her hips. “But, I’m betting we aren’t here to discuss brooms, eh Luc?”
“No, Rolanda. We are here to discuss changing the world. And not the way the Dark Lord wishes.” Lucius said lifting the brooms and putting them aside. He pulled two chairs over and held one for Hermione while indicating the other for Hooch. “Lunch will be served momentarily. Until then, let’s have a little talk.” he said finding another chair and pulling it up between the females.
Hagrid settled opposite them as Malfoy Sr. began to detail the spell, its effects and the hopes he had that this could mean another Malfoy child in his future.
Then, he outlined the way that the spell had morphed after being cast and finally his end conclusions.
Hooch smiled and nodded, but Hagrid asked some in depth questions until he understood the problem.
“So, little Draco want to keep’is new girl parts, and then ‘e can ave a babe?” the half-giant asked receiving a nod from the elder Malfoy. “But, ya ain’ sure how ta go about gettin’ the littlun started, am I right?” he continued.
“Yes,” Lucius answered, directing his responses to everyone at the table. "Unlike a normal conception, the sperm cannot travel the same route as the monthly fluids on their way out. Also, there would have to be another way to deliver, as it is unlikely the baby would travel this path at full term.”
“It sounds very dangerous, Mr. Malfoy.’ Hermione said, her voiced cracked with nervousness. “Why would you or Mal . . Draco even consider it?”
“I hate to have to sound like a blood-supremacist, Ms. Granger, but the Malfoy line is like a tall tree. Only one child is born each generation. We have all tried again and again. My own father, Abraxas Malfoy, married three time and kept numerous mistresses. Still, I am the lone result. And, Draco will never have a sibling, I’m afraid. So, it is up to him to have the one child, his son. And continue the line. He understands this, as well as the dangers, and yet his . . .personal preferences, make even an arranged marriage a futile try. So, if he can bear a child himself, then the problem is solved.”
“Admirable,” Hooch sounded off, “Similar problems in my own line, Lucius. Had to go with artificial for my brother to have his son. Good lad, my nephew. Good lad.”
“Yes, I know of Robert’s child and that is why I wanted to have you in on this. I wonder if these methods might work for Draco.” Lucius asked, “Of course, no pure blood girl would consider it, with Draco’s popularity and all. I have asked.”
“Hardly likely, Lucius. Imagine the discomfort of it, traveling up by force. . .wouldn’t know if it could make the trip without damage. Worth a try, I guess.” she said ending with a pained expression.
Lucius had feared this to be the case, though Draco had said he would be willing to try anything that the adults decided might work.
“This‘ere spell sounds very comodatin’ Lucius. May need a bit more studying.” Hagrid added as Hermione just looked bewildered.
When the meal was finished and the two adults excused themselves, and everyone started to leave, she lightly touched the elder Malfoy’s arm. “I hope you and Draco can succeed. I really didn’t know.” she said and the man nodded in his very classy manner.
“We hardly air this sort of think in the public, Ms. Granger. And this was a very productive first meeting. I think it is time to visit the Headmaster. I have some things to discuss with him. Enjoy your classes, Ms. Granger.” he said before heading out the door.
After class, Hermione returned to the library to look up some things she thought might pertain and that is where she came across Harry.
In his hand he had one of the diagnostic films that she had seen when Snape had brought her to the room of requirement, only days ago.
Harry was glaring at it when he noticed her and put it away. His guilty expression intrigued her.
“Mione, what are you doing here?” he asked.
“Same as you, Harry.” she said, sliding into the seat next to him and pulling out the film. “Trying to solve the last problem.”
After the crash course she had gotten on reading the films, she knew that his one was new and there was something about it.
Harry was speaking, “Not the last problem, Mione. This is personal.”
“Hmmm, personal, yeah.” She said distractedly as she turned the film on its side. “Oh, what was that Harry?” she added when she realized that she hadn’t been listening.
“I said this is personal. It isn’t that I’m trying to fix your spell,” He repeated.
“No, no. Let the adults reverse it, I don’t care. I thought you might be working on the . . .Malfoy thing.” she said and watched him blush.
“Oh, you know about that? Well, it’s not like I planned it. He’s just not what I though all along . . .” Harry muttered.
“Harry, Focus here. Look at me.” she said and he looked up shyly. “Oh, god. You have a crush on Draco!” she gasped. “Harry, I was talking about his father. Helping him solve the pregnancy issue.” she explained.
“Well, so was I!” Harry growled, looking away again. “Only in a more personal way.” When Hermione failed to respond, he continued. “I just thought if I could find out how to make it happen, maybe he might consider letting me be the one.”
“Harry James Potter! That is soo Cute!” Hermione said, patting his cheek and smiling. “You weren’t even this adorable over that whole Cho thing. Now, show me what you’ve found. What is it about his film, I can’t quite decide, but it’s . . .wrong.”
“Not wrong, Mione. Different. Look at the shape of the . . .you-know-what,” he said pointing to the large blob in the middle.
“Uterus, Harry. If we are going to do this, you need to use the right terms. Gods, you are the one who said we should use Voldemort’s name and you can’t say the name of your own womb.. . .this is your film, Harry?” Hermione said, nearly shrieking.
Harry blushed again. “Yes, and it’s my . . . Womb, too. Now look, here’s the old one. Look at the differences.” he added pulling out another film and laying them side by side. “Look, what is this tube here? Is it what I think it is and do you think that its important?”
Hermione leaned down and stared at the films. Her mind checked and she looked up at the boy-who-solved-everything.
