Chapter 8
Albus Dumbledore was a nervous Wizard.
Several events had just taken place that compounded his stressed state, including the downfall of Azkaban (damn Dark Wizards popping up all over the place, scaring people out of their trees) and of course the ever-present threat of Voldemort putting in an appearance. With Harry Potter in close proximity, a surprise visit from The Dark Lord wouldn't be much of a surprise, really.
And now Hermione Granger, the epitome of the perfect rule-following, annoyingly punctual student, had gone missing.
Perhaps missing wasn't quite the right term, at least not yet...the other students had returned safely from their final excursion to Hogsmeade Village, surprisingly without Miss Granger, but nothing at this point suggested in any way that she was actually missing. Just missed the carriage, most likely. It seemed a bit improbable, seeing as it was Hermione Granger, but stranger things had been known to happen.
Dumbledore fed Fawkes a Phoenix Biscuit, sighing deeply as the sound of shouting and an excited argument grew increasingly louder, which could mean only one thing: it was headed for his office.
Geezus, do the dramas never cease around this place??
The door burst open and an obviously flustered Minerva McGonagall spilled into the room, followed immediately by a shouting Argus Filch and a thrashing---but thankfully no longer missing---Hermione Granger. Filch had her by the arm and she was violently attempting to wrench herself out of his grasp.
A fourth person appeared, a very tall, gaunt, darkheaded young man with a face Albus would never forget.
Barty Crouch Junior.
"Hello Headmaster."
