Let Me Be The One
So you're scared, to show your feelings
Baby, I do understand
Well, I don't make a promise I can't keep
And I vow to be a real good friend
In those big green eyes I see a glow of love
I just hope that I'm the one you're dreaming of
Let me be the one to love you
Let me be the one to care
Let me be the one to light your flame
Oh, baby, oh, baby, let me be the one
We spend all our time together
We can't stand to sleep alone
When you say you have to leave for now
I miss you before you're gone
All along we thought this was absurd
Every moment that we spend goes by too fast
Darling, darling take this chance with me
'Cause I have eyes only for you
Oh, baby
Hermione got to her flat in seconds, with a huge smile plastered on her face. It wouldn’t be long before Harry dropped by. She had secretly slipped the parchment in his hand. It was only a matter of how long Ginny and Ron would be staying. Molly had told Ginny that it would be ‘highly inappropriate for her to still be living with her fiancee til the time of the wedding. Harry was glad for that break. He thanked the gods for small miracles.
Ginny knew what he would do. He would spend his time with Hermione. That’s what Ginny feared the most. She thought that having her as the Maid of Honor would keep her close to her and away from him, but when she left them alone in his flat, she knew that things between Hermione and Harry had changed. She could feel it in the air.
Every time he would look at her it was if they had a secret that no one knew. She didn’t like it. She didn’t like it at all. She wasn’t a mean or vindictive person, she was just misunderstood. There were things in her past that she wasn’t proud of, but that was the past. Harry was her future. She went back to the Burrow without another care in the world other than her wedding and starting her new life with the very famous Harry Potter.
Harry couldn’t wait until Ginny and Ron left for the Burrow. Remus and Tonks weren’t supposed to come home from their honeymoon until a day before the wedding. He didn’t have any fittings, nothing to attend to. He was just free from all of it.
It wasn’t a even a minute before that Ginny and Ron left his flat that he flooed to Hermione. He didn’t even have to think about it. The Ministry had set up anti-apparition wards around her so that no one could hurt her. He was thankful for that.
He came out the other side completely covered in soot, not that he minded. A quick spell would fix that problem, which it did. He looked around her flat to see that it was very similar to his own. There was huge window in the living room and the couch and all around were littered with books. He picked one up and read the title, ‘Obscure Spells, Potions and Curses.’ He opened to a random page. There was nothing there; it was completely blank.
“Can I help you Mister Potter?” Hermione said from behind him. She was drinking a bottle of ale.
“So want to tell me why you made that quick exit? I thought you would stay with me until the wedding?” Harry sat on the couch with her next to him. She handed him the bottle and he took a sip. “Ugh, God. That’s nasty. What it is?”
“It’s not ale.” she smiled widely at him. “It’s a strengthening drink that the Potions department is working on. I’ve been drinking these for the last four months. It kinda grows on you.” She took another sip. He made a disgusted face.
“Right.” He remarked
“Hey want a tour?” Hermione jumped up from the couch and smiled at him. She took his hand in hers and dragged him throughout her flat. “This is the Library. I have a library!” she exclaimed. It wasn’t much, but it was a room surrounded by bookshelves filled to the hilt with books. In the center of the room was a large lounge chair, a chaise. It was perfectly Hermione. He pulled her close to him and kissed her forehead.
“You know Hermione. It’s perfect.” he whispered into her hair.
She turned a deep red and kissed his chin. “C’mon. You have to see the balcony.” She took his hand in hers and took her to her master suite. It was beautiful. It was gold with bits of red added into the mix. The large four post king sized bed was in the center of the room and he looked over and smiled. There were cream and red sheets on the bed and he laughed at Hermione.
“Look who’s talking about Griffyndor colors!” He looked around the room and then at her.
She blushed again. “Fine. I didn’t notice ok. I had Lavender decorate the flat when I was away. It’s all Lav’s fault!”
He just smiled at her. She was standing by a large door that led to her balcony. The light filtered in perfectly. It looked like she was enveloped by the sunlight. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
“C’mon.” She opened the doors and he gasped. It was beautiful. She was very close to him, a couple miles away in fact. Her bedroom overlooked a park. It was incredible. He had never seen anything like it. The only place that come close was Paris, but it was too crowded to his liking.
He could’ve stared out on the park forever. It seemed like forever when she pulled him back in to her bedroom. They lied down next to each other gazing into each other’s eyes. There was no kissing, not really touching if count Harry’s arm around her waist. It was just quiet contemplation. The peacefulness of their surroundings made them drowsy and they fell asleep in each other’s embrace.
He woke first and gazed down at her glorious face. He was mesmerized by her eyes and nose, as cute as a button. He gently pressed his index finger against it. She stirred a bit and moved closer to him. Her body that close was doing all sorts of things to him. He shifted slightly and she woke.
“Sorry love, didn’t mean to wake you.” he said softly.
“Oh, what time is it? I have to be at the Ministry at six.” she looked around frantically around the room to find her clock.. He looked at playfully.
“It’s a quarter to six.” he said
“Oh shit!” She jumped out of his embrace and went to her bath and tried to fix her hair. She put some magical product in her hair and it was fixed. The curls loosened and fell down her back. She grabbed some gloss from the counter and applied it to her lips. She smacked them together.
Harry watched this and was in awe. He had never seen Hermione get all girly before and it did shock them. Thought out their years as friends, she would rarely apply make-up or lip gloss or do anything different with her hair. Now, she was a woman that cared about the way she looked. He smiled at the vision before him.
She leaned over the sink to get closer to the mirror and applied her eye liner and mascara. She turned to Harry, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Oh because I thought you didn’t do that.” He said pointing to her.
“Do what Potter?” She said playfully.
“Uh oh. Last name usage. Must leave room now.” He laughed and left her to get ready.
It was time for her to meet with the Minister. Harry couldn’t let her go, but he had to. He kissed her softly on the lips and she flooed to the Ministry.
“Hello Andrea. I’m here to see the Minister.” She said to the petite blonde girl behind the desk.
“Yes Miss Granger. Please go in.” She waved the door open and was greeted by Arthur Weasley’s smiling face.
“Hello Hermione.” He got up and hugged her. She hugged him back.
After the War, Arthur had been appointed as Minister of Magic. It was a job that he didn’t take lightly. He made his share of enemies, but all of that didn’t matter because he cared for everyone, magical and muggle alike.
He was beaming at her. “Congratulations on being a grand-father.”
He chuckled. “What more can a man ask for?”
She smiled tightly at him. She didn’t acknowledge Ginny’s pregnancy and though in hindsight she thought it was rude, she didn’t really want to think about it. There was no way that she could have a conversation with Arthur without the future Potter popping up. They had caught up on her current project.
By the time they were done with their meeting, it was close to eight. Arthur was worried that Molly would scold him for missing dinner. They had left together. When Hermione came home Ginny was there in her flat waiting for her. Hermione was surprised to see her. She knew that Harry would not reveal her location to anyone, but seeing Ginny here, all she could think of was the worst.
“Gin? What’re you doing here?” Ginny’s blue eyes glowed in the darkness of the room. Hermione turned the lights on and approached her slowly.
“You secretly gave this to Harry. You address, your floo password.” She took out a parchment.
Hermione saw that Ginny was fuming. Her face was red and she was shaking. “Where’d you get that?” she snatched it from her hand.
“I came to see him and he had it out on his dresser.” she said simply.
“Oh. Why are you here?” she questioned again.
“Because, I wanted to know something Hermione,” Ginny started. “I wanted to know if Harry’s ok with all of this. I didn’t know how else to contact you. I’m sorry.”
Hermione went and hugged Ginny. “You have to talk to Harry. I can’t tell you anything.”
Ginny started to cry. “I’m scared that he’s going to leave me.”
“Leave you for what? For whom?” Hermione questioned.
“For you. I see the way he looks at you. I don’t know what to do. I can tell that you love him and that he loves you. I know that he’s marrying me because I’m pregnant.” She sobbed on Hermione’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry Ginny. I never meant for you to find out like this. I really didn’t. I just wanted you to be happy.” Hermione was crying now. It was as if there was something more that Ginny wanted to say to her, but couldn’t.
They didn’t tell Harry about their conversation and the next two weeks went by uneventfully. Harry and Hermione were at each other’s flats every day.
It was two days before the big day. It was Harry’s bachelor party. He hated it, he hated the idea of it, but since Remus had just come back, the men around him thought that it would be the best day. That day he was a bunch of nerves. He had wanted to talk to Hermione, but for some reason she blew him off. It was as if the pain of losing him was too much for her. She and Tonks had decided to spend the day together.
It wasn’t until late in the afternoon that he finally caught her. He flooed over to her place. “Hermione?” he bellowed
“Harry? What’re you doing here?” she came out of her bedroom with a silk robe on. Her hair was up in a ponytail and the loose tendrils framed her face beautifully. Her hair was lightened and her skin glowed. It was brown anymore, it was more like a golden brown. Harry marveled at her beauty, no make-up, no lip gloss. This was all natural Hermione.
“Um. Just wanted to talk to you.” he walked over to her. She walked in to her bath and started to heave in the toilet. “Oh Merlin, Hermione are you ok?” He bent down next to her and started stroking her hair.
He stood her up and she washed her face and rinsed her mouth. She walked over to her bed and plopped down. “I’m not ok. I’ve been sick.. I think it might be the flu.” She looked tired and weak.
Harry was concerned. “Come Hermione. I’m going to take to you St. Mungo’s. Who know’s what you came in contact with because of your job. Being locked away in musty libraries is not good for you. C’mon get dressed.”
She quickly dressed and they flooed to St. Mungo’s. It was busy afternoon for them. They searched around for Neville. He was the new healer there and he was damn good. When they found him, Harry had told him of Hermione’s plight and they were ushered into a room.
“I have to preform a series of spells on you. Is that ok, Hermione?” Neville asked her. He had grown into quite a handsome man. He was the youngest healer at St. Mungo’s and one of the best. “You should leave Harry. You shouldn’t be here.”
Harry looked over to Hermione and she nodded. “I’ll be right outside.”
After Harry left, Neville proceeded to ask her a couple questions the first being the most embarrassing. “Hermione. I know this is kind of embarrassing for me to ask, but I need to know ok?” Her eyes widened. She just nodded. “OK, are you sexually active?” His face flushed a bit.
“Yes.” She said quietly.
“How long has it been?” he asked again.
“Two weeks.” She couldn’t bare to look at him. He just nodded.
“The first thing I’m going to do is a pregnancy spell, ok?” He placed his arm on her shoulder. He took his wand out. Her eyes were squeezed shut with tears flowing down her face. He mutter the spell and a flash of blue hit her stomach. Then a green swirling orb appeared above her stomach. She sobbed even louder. She clung to Neville and sobbed into his chest. “I’ll get Harry for you, Ok?”
“No! He can’t know about this!” she tried to compose herself but she couldn’t. Neville just held her until her sobs died down.
“What do you want to do? There’s always....” he started.
“No! That’s not a option.” she said quietly.
“Ok. I understand. Congratulations Hermione.” He shifted his feet. He didn’t know what else to say. He didn’t know what else to do and for some reason, he felt that Harry should know.
