Aurelia lifted her head high as she and Lucius walked down to receive Bellatrix Lestrange. Bellatrix was the older sister of Narcissa, and Aurelia did not doubt for one second that that was what she had come to discuss with them. Luckily, if the worst came to the worst, it would still be two against one, and Lucius was easily as talented as she with his spell work. Aurelia took a deep breath as they turned into the entrance hall. A thought struck her. “Bellatrix Lestrange? But – isn’t she in Azkaban?” she murmured, horror-struck.
Lucius nodded. “That’s what I thought.” Bellatrix Lestrange was quite literally spitting mad, waving a piece of parchment over her head. “Wand out, darling,” whispered Lucius warily. Aurelia nodded, and slid her wand up the sleeve of her robe.
“Good morning, Bella, what can we do for you?”
“I received an owl this morning, and what do you think it said?” Bellatrix hissed.
“Oh, I cannot imagine – perhaps that you’re a delusional old hag, who somehow has managed to break out of Azkaban to inflict her madness upon the rest of us?” Lucius said carelessly.
Bellatrix shrieked with rage. “The Dark Lord himself broke us out this morning, I will have you know Lucius! And the first thing I discover is that my sister was murdered, and you have taken up with some whore in her place!”
Aurelia rounded on her. “How dare you? I am no whore, Lestrange, I am Pendragon. Lucius is the only man I have ever loved; unlike you, I stay loyal to the man I am with. There are tales told about you, I can assure you.”
Bellatrix shouted “Stupefy!” but Aurelia carelessly deflected the spell with a simple wave of her wand.
“Why, Bella,” Lucius taunted. “With a temper like that, I cannot imagine why the Dark Lord thought it was worth breaking you out. Surely you will be more of a hindrance than a help?”
“You are responsible for Narcissa’s death, I know it! Do not fear, I will have my revenge!” Bellatrix babbled. As she raised her wand, the door swung open and all three of them turned towards it.
Voldemort walked in, looking extremely amused by the scene in front of him. “Bellatrix – I see you have met Lady Pendragon?”
Bellatrix did not reply, merely stood there fuming. Aurelia and Lucius bowed to their master. Voldemort nodded to them. “Aurelia has recently joined us, and is a most valuable member of the Inner Circle. If anything were to happen to her, I would be severely displeased. Do you understand, Bellatrix?”
He paused, waiting for an answer. “Bellatrix?” he said softly. “I said, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?”
Bellatrix jumped, then nodded sullenly, shooting a dark look at Aurelia and Lucius. Lucius laughed, and pulled Aurelia to him.
“Go on then, Bellatrix,” snapped Voldemort. “You were not invited here, and I seem to remember specifically telling you to stay where I left you.”
Bellatrix jumped, and fled out of the door that Voldemort had just come through. Aurelia let out a sigh of relief, and melted into Lucius’ touch.
“I apologise for that,” Voldemort said smoothly. “I had intended to tell her of the change of circumstances myself, but it seems someone else got to her first. I shall deal with it, you have my word.”
Lucius nodded. “Was it just her you released from Azkaban, master?”
Voldemort shook his head. “Ten, all in all. I believe that we shall soon be ready to make an attempt upon the prophecy. With enough of you there, it should be easy enough.”
Aurelia’s brow furrowed. “You are going to go into the depths of the Ministry, master?”
Voldemort chuckled. “No. The fools are still denying that I am back, it seems unwise to go there myself, does it not?”
Aurelia shook her head. “I apologise if I am wrong, master, but I was discussing the prophecy with the Order recently, and I was told that only those whom the prophecy refers to can remove the record of it.”
“Indeed?” Voldemort appeared surprised. “I had not been informed of this. Thank you, Aurelia, that will save me much time on wasted plans.”
Aurelia mentally kicked herself as she realised what she had done. Still, at least it had made Voldemort a little surer of her loyalty. “I am glad that I could help, master.”
Lucius smiled proudly. “Was there anything else we can assist you with today?”
“No, not today, but I shall be in touch shortly. Farewell.” Voldemort walked through the door and Disapparated.
The next few months seemed to fly by for Aurelia. Soon, it was early December, and the date they had set for the wedding had arrived. Aurelia was nervous. She and Lucius had had a few disagreements over the wedding, mainly regarding whom to invite. Aurelia had insisted that the Order should be invited over the Death Eaters, so as to keep up their façade, but he had only agreed when Voldemort intervened. Thus, the wedding promised to be a tense affair. Dumbledore had refused to let the children leave school to attend on the grounds of their safety, so the only people attending were the older Weasleys, Remus Lupin, Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Nymphadora Tonks and several of Lucius’ Ministry contacts. Aurelia would have dearly loved Sirius to be there, but she knew it was impossible.
Fortunately, the wedding passed without a hitch. Although after the binding ceremony the wedding itself was only a formality, Aurelia had worried that her family would attempt to put some stop to it. However, it ran as smoothly as could be expected, and there was little friction between Lucius and the guests. Finally, the last of them left, and Lucius and Aurelia were alone in the manor together for the first time as a married couple.
“My wife,” murmured Lucius, gazing into her eyes.
Aurelia smiled, and kissed him on the lips. “Yes, my Lord.”
“Lady Malfoy, will you allow me to make love to you?” Lucius asked silkily.
In response, Aurelia gently slipped her robes off her shoulders, and unbuttoned the back of her wedding dress. She slowly stepped out of it, and stood before Lucius waiting for him.
Lucius put his arms around her, dipped her down and lowered his head to kiss her. Aurelia trembled in his arms, and pulled him backwards with her onto the bed. Lucius stared down at her, then began caressing her frantically, tearing at his clothes with his spare hands. Aurelia gasped, and pulled his hips towards her, stroking his penis firmly. Lucius thrust into her, and as they moved together, both knew that the love they had was complete. Their energy spent, Aurelia fell asleep on top of Lucius, and they spent the night so.
Voldemort was waiting for them when they finally went down to breakfast the next morning. He inclined his head to them when they walked into the dining hall.
Lucius and Aurelia bowed. “Good morning, master,” they said in unison.
Voldemort smiled. His smile still sent a shiver through Aurelia, despite the number of times she had now seen it. “I presume yesterday went well?”
Aurelia smiled as she remembered the fact that she was now Lady Malfoy. “As well as could be expected, master.”
“Good, good. Lucius, if I might have a word in private? I have a task for you.”
Lucius nodded. “Darling?”
Aurelia smiled faintly. “Actually, I have a few letters to write anyway, so I will see you later my Lord. Do you need to speak to me as well, master?”
Voldemort nodded. “I will come to speak to you once I have finished with Lucius.”
Aurelia wandered through the halls of the manor, her urge to write suddenly gone. If Voldemort was speaking to them privately, then that meant he was stepping up his campaign to get hold of the prophecy. She had to arrange the removal of theirs as soon as possible. A tear slid down her face. Why was it that nothing could be straightforward? She loved Lucius, and he loved her; if only all the complications were removed, she would be the happiest woman alive.
She reached the attic, the highest point of the manor, and collapsed into the pile of cushions that looked out over the grounds. This was her favourite spot to come when she needed to think. Aurelia relaxed into the cushions, and closed her eyes. All too soon, though, she became aware that she was being watched. She opened her eyes warily, and saw Voldemort standing opposite. As she went to stand up, Voldemort held up his hand. “No, do not trouble yourself Aurelia.” Instead, he sat next to her. Aurelia had to fight back the urge to laugh at the thought of the Dark Lord sat on a pile of cushions – somehow, it did not seem right.
“What can I do for you today, master?” she asked.
Voldemort held her gaze. “Have you and Lucius been successful in your attempt for a child yet, Aurelia?”
Aurelia looked down. “Unfortunately not yet, master.” Their failure to conceive was troubling her.
Voldemort nodded. “It will happen soon, I am sure of it. Meanwhile, you are free to work for me.”
Aurelia paled. “What would you have me do, master?”
He moved closer to her. “Do you remember that night in the cave, Aurelia? When I told you that I would take what I wanted from you?”
Aurelia fought the urge to reach for her wand. “I do, master, and I am your servant. I will give you whatever you need from me.”
“Sex can be a useful weapon in war, Aurelia,” Voldemort said conversationally. “Men will kill over it without a second thought, and a woman can cause a man to think of nothing else with it. You are one of those rare few who has the power to wield over any man.” He moved closer to her, and slid his hand along her face, stroking her lips.
Aurelia shook, and sighed. “Master,” she said softly. “I am yours first and foremost; you know if that you want me I will not deny you your pleasure.”
“I am glad to hear you say that, Aurelia. I have often thought to myself that the Slytherin line should not end with me. Once you and Lucius have had a child, I have decided that you are to bear my heir.”
Despite the sick feeling in her stomach, Aurelia nodded. “I would be more than honoured, master.” The revulsion she felt did not keep her from playing her part. Aurelia softly ran her finger down his chest, and was gratified to see the Dark Lord shiver under her touch.
“It has been so long since I felt another’s touch, yet it still feels as it always did,” Voldemort said wondrously. Suddenly with a swift motion, he pinned her underneath him, and stared at her. “Lucius is a lucky man to have you every night, Aurelia.” He kissed her neck, and Aurelia was shocked to find her body responding to his touch. Voldemort gently slid his hand underneath her dressing gown, and cupped her breasts in his cold hands. She moaned, and pushed herself into him. He withdrew, smiled, and Disapparated, leaving Aurelia in a state of shock.
After that encounter, Aurelia did not have any contact with Voldemort for a few weeks. She and Lucius took advantage of this lull to make the most of life as a married couple, though the longed-for pregnancy still did not happen. The day before Draco was due home for Christmas, Lucius put on his travelling robes.
“Where are you going, my love?” asked Aurelia, looking up at him from her chair by the fire.
“Out,” he replied curtly. “The Dark Lord has work for me to do.”
The cold tone of his voice cut Aurelia. Lucius never spoke to her that way. She bit her lip. “Take care, my darling.”
He softened. “I apologise, Aurelia. I am a little nervous, but I shall see you later my love.” He gently kissed the top of her head before he left.
Aurelia spent the next two hours waiting by the door, panicked. What was it that Lucius was doing to make him so nervous? When he eventually came through the door, Aurelia was horrified to see the cold glint in his eyes. “My Lord?” she said tentatively.
Lucius grinned maniacally. “Revenge is a sweet feeling, Aurelia.” He threw his travelling robes to the floor, and sunk into a chair. “That damned blood traitor got what was coming to him.”
Aurelia’s blood ran cold in her veins. “What did you do, Lucius?” she asked quietly.
“The Dark Lord sent me to go to the prophecy room, but the Weasley idiot was attempting to guard it.” He chuckled. “So, I set the Dark Lord’s snake on him. Hopefully by now the fool is dead – I very much doubt anyone could lose that much blood and survive.”
Aurelia’s legs collapsed underneath her. Arthur Weasley had always been kind to her, and he and Molly were wonderful parents. And now her husband had murdered him, and was stood in front of her laughing about it. She backed away, fumbling for her wand.
Lucius’ eyes lit up as he saw the horror in her eyes. “You know, darling, after all that excitement I doubt I can go to sleep yet. Do you feel like amusing me for a little while?” He advanced on her, backing her into a corner, his pupils darkened and dilated with excitement.
Aurelia shook her head. “No, Lucius, I do not even want to be in the same room as you, let alone anything else you have in mind.” Desperate, she tried to run past him, but he easily caught her and held her tightly.
“You are my wife, Aurelia, and I insist upon my rights as a husband now.”
Aurelia tearfully tried to squirm out of his grasp. “I said no, Lucius!”
Lucius nodded. “So be it, Aurelia. I warned you when we first met that I was a dangerous man; tonight, you see the proof of it.” He grasped a handful of her hair, and forced her head backwards towards his mouth. He kissed her hard, thrusting his tongue into her mouth.
Aurelia attempted to push him off, but Lucius was much bigger and stronger. He laughed, clearly becoming more aroused by her attempts to break free. “My, what is the world coming to when you have to rape your own wife?” he asked musingly. Suddenly, he tied her hands behind her back and pushed her up against the wall. “Evanesco!” he muttered, and her clothing disappeared.
Aurelia looked up at him pleadingly. “Lucius, I am begging you not to do this. Please, darling,” she said desperately.
Lucius avoided her eyes as he removed his clothing with one hand, the other keeping her pushed up against the wall. He repeatedly drove himself into her whilst tears streamed down her face, disregarding the pain she was clearly in. With a last grunt of satisfaction, he finished and pulled her into him again. “Oh, I love you darling.”
Aurelia stared up at him in shock, then grabbed her robes from where she had left them on the chair, and threw them on before running out of the door. She Apparated to Grimmauld Place, and hammered on the door desperately. When Sirius opened the door, her tears were still running down her face. “Oh, Sirius, he killed Arthur!”
Sirius shook his head urgently. “Arthur isn’t dead, he’s in St. Mungo’s. Get inside, Aurelia, but be quiet. The kids are in the kitchen. Merlin, what happened to you?”
“Lucius,” she replied with a sob. Sirius went white as he pulled her through the door.
“Quickly, let’s get you safe then I can look after you. Go into my room. I’ll just go and tell the kids that I’ll be upstairs, then I’ll come on up.”
Aurelia stumbled up the stairs, and collapsed onto Sirius’ bed, sobs still racking her body. She had known that Lucius was evil, but what had just happened deeply shocked her. What hurt even more was the fact that she knew she would go back to him; after all, she still loved him more than anything else, and could not imagine life without him. Sirius peered cautiously round the door.
“Can I come in?”
Aurelia brought her tears under control. “Of course, Sirius.”
He dropped onto the bed beside her, and hugged her. “Oh, sweetheart. What happened?”
Aurelia sat up and took his hand. “You mustn’t tell them, Sirius. They will try to stop me going back, and that won’t help anyone.”
Sirius shook his head. “You think I’ll let you go back to that monster?”
Aurelia pleaded with him. “Sirius, you don’t understand. I love him, more than anything, and I have to be with him for Voldemort to be defeated.”
Sirius sighed in defeat. “I know, Aurelia, but that doesn’t make it easier for those who love you to see you put yourself through such punishment. What did he do to you this time?”
She dropped her eyes. “We were arguing about what he did to Arthur, and the look in his eyes… it terrified me, so I tried to get away. Lucius would not let me leave the room, then he insisted upon having me. I tried to stop him, but I didn’t have my wand and he was too strong for me…” Aurelia trailed off, not needing to say any more.
Sirius swore loudly. “You really need to see someone, Aurelia, get some healing charms cast.”
“I’d rather not, Sirius. Haven’t we just got any healing potions around? That will do, honestly.”
“We have some downstairs, but still… Oh, Aurelia, why do these things always happen to the Potters? Nothing can ever be simple, can it?”
Aurelia looked up at him, tears still shining in her eyes. Why couldn’t she have fallen in love with someone like Sirius? He was brave and loyal, and would do anything for his friends. Aurelia knew that he would lay down his life for them without a second thought – the way he acted for Harry proved that. Their eyes met, and Aurelia had an irresistible urge to kiss Sirius. She closed her eyes, and their lips softly met. She put her arms around his neck, and increased the intensity of their kiss, but Sirius pulled back.
He stared at her, question in his eyes. “Aurelia, we cannot be together after tonight, you know that.”
She nodded. “But for tonight, why can’t we do this?”
Sirius sighed. “Please don’t use me as a tool to forget Lucius. I love you, Aurelia, but I will not allow you to use me.”
Aurelia looked at him earnestly. “Sirius, trust me. Tonight, I want to be with you.”
He seemed to finally believe her. He went to put his arm around her again, then paused. “Do you know,” he said wryly, “James always used to say that he wanted me to marry you. It would make me an official part of the family, and he said there was no other man he would have trusted more.” Sirius sighed, and Aurelia stroked his hand.
“I think we would have been very happy, Sirius,” she said sadly.
Sirius looked at her, and he slowly laid her back down onto the mattress, and laid himself down next to her. They kissed, gently at first, then it became more intense and urgent as they removed each other’s clothing. Aurelia and Sirius maintained eye contact as they made love, each aware that this was the only time they would do so. Sirius was tender, and Aurelia realised the contrast between he and Lucius was extreme. When they were both satisfied, they looked at each other and smiled.
“I suppose I should check the kids,” said Sirius regretfully.
Aurelia nodded. “Who’s here, then?”
“Harry, Ron, Fred, George and Ginny. Albus sent them out of Hogwarts as soon as they realised what had happened.”
They rose to walk downstairs, and Aurelia blushed. “I just need to transfigure some clothes before we go down, Sirius – my robes were all I had time to grab on the way here.” She waved her wand at the bed sheets, and they turned into a long dress. “Ok, ready.” Sirius sighed.
Aurelia hugged him. “Oh, Sirius, I wish –“
Sirius cut her off. “I know, Aurelia,” he replied sadly. “I know.”
When Aurelia went down to breakfast the next morning, Sirius and the children were sat at the table with Molly Weasley. “Is there any news on Arthur?” she asked, panic evident in her voice.
Molly smiled tiredly. “He’s going to be alright, Lia. He will have to spend a few days in St. Mungo’s, but there should be no lasting damage.” Aurelia got up and hugged her.
Harry frowned. “Why are you here, Aurelia? Is everything alright?”
Sirius and Aurelia exchanged a glance that Harry did not miss. “Oh, fine – I was concerned about Arthur, and Lucius is away, so I stayed here last night instead,” Aurelia replied cheerfully. “I shall go back to the manor soon I expect, now that I know everyone is okay.” She sat down next to Sirius, and he squeezed her hand.
Fred Weasley bounded into the room waving a camera in front of him. Molly frowned. “It’s a bit early for pictures, surely Fred? Where did you get that from anyway?”
Fred grinned. “George and I bought one, thought we’d get some pictures of everyone together this Christmas. But if you’re not staying, Lia, we’d best get some pictures of you now.”
Aurelia laughingly protested, but Fred pointed the camera at she and Sirius, and snapped as they laughed into the camera. “Nice, nice,” he said appreciatively. He turned the camera on his mother, and everyone burst out laughing as she chased him out of the kitchen with her broom.
Sirius quietly ushered Aurelia out of the room. “Are you sure you’ll be alright to return, sweetheart?”
Aurelia nodded. “I have no choice, Sirius. Despite what happened, he is my husband and I love him. Even if I did not though, I would have to go back anyway. I’m in too deep to back out.”
Sirius hugged her. “Don’t forget, Aurelia, if you ever need me, I’ll be there. I love you.”
Aurelia returned his embrace. “If we both make it through this war in one piece, Sirius….” She kissed him softly on the lips. Neither of them noticed Harry stood by the door listening to every word they said.
Aurelia returned to the manor, fearing what she would find there. If Lucius found out what she had done last night, she did not dare think what the results would be. However, before she had even reached the door Lucius was rushing out to meet her. He swung her into his arms, and his face dropped as she flinched at his touch. Lucius held her at arm’s length, and kissed her. “Darling, where have you been? I was so worried!”
Aurelia stared at him. “Did you really expect me to spend the night here after what happened?”
He smiled. “Well, I could tell it upset you, but I didn’t think it was that serious. You love me, I love you, and I wanted to have sex with you. I don’t really see what your problem was.”
Aurelia was stunned, but knew she had to keep a control on her emotions. “Lucius, when I say no, I mean it. After all, my love, it is not often I refuse you. I would therefore appreciate it if you would respect my wishes in future. I am sure our master would not be pleased if you were to upset me,” she said, raising her eyebrows.
“Very well, darling, if you insist,” he replied affectionately. “Let’s go in now, my Lady, I have missed you.” Aurelia gave in, and returned his kiss as they went in.
The following months proved to be tense for Aurelia. She was constantly on edge waiting to hear more from Voldemort, but nothing further occurred until February. Lucius and Aurelia were walking through the grounds when the burning in their marks alerted them that Voldemort required their presence. They went directly to him.
“Aurelia, you seem tired,” he said. “Are you well”?
Aurelia started. “I am ready for any task for you have for me, master, as always.”
Voldemort nodded appreciatively. “That is good to hear, because both of you have a task to complete now. This afternoon, I will be launching an attack on Hogsmeade whilst the students are visiting, and I wish for you both to participate.”
Lucius smiled excitedly. “Is there any particular aim to the attack, master?” he queried.
“To draw Potter out and away from Dumbledore’s protection. Whilst we are there, we may as well cause as much chaos as possible, I suppose.”
Aurelia nodded, and drew a deep breath, desperately trying to hide the panic she felt. “Will you be there with us, master?”
“I shall, along with approximately twenty of the Death Eaters. You are to Apparate to the Hog’s Head at precisely midday.”
Lucius inclined his head. “We shall be there, master.”
They returned to the manor. Whilst Lucius went to get the Death Eater robes and masks, Aurelia frantically searched for the mirror. Sirius’ face appeared instantly, and she did not wait for him to speak. “Attack on Hogsmeade at midday, tell Albus!” she said urgently, then threw the mirror back into her closet as Lucius came in. She quickly kissed him to hide her distraction.
“Ah, you are as excited as I am, my love,” said Lucius with a smile. “I believe that we shall have a truly wonderful day, darling.”
Aurelia smiled back. “Are you ready, my Lord?”
He nodded, and took her hand. “Let’s go.”
A crowd was already gathered outside the Hog’s Head, so Lucius and Aurelia split off from the main group and headed down the side streets. As Aurelia turned around, she saw a Death Eater torturing what looked to be a third year, and she felt a ripping pain in her lower abdomen. She screamed, and Lucius spun back towards her. Voldemort heard the sound, and rushed towards them, pushing them into a secluded alley. “What is it?” he said furiously.
“Master,” Aurelia said through gritted teeth, tears running down her face. “It hurts so, so much…”
Lucius and Voldemort exchanged a look. Voldemort waved his wand, and their robes and masks flew off. “Prepare to perform a shielding spell, Lucius,” said Voldemort quietly. Lucius withdrew his wand grimly. “Crucio!” screamed Voldemort, then disappeared.
Lucius screamed out loud. “Help! My wife has been cursed!”
An Auror came hurtling around the corner, a large black man with a gold earring. He stopped dead when he saw Aurelia writhing in Lucius’ arms. “What the hell happened?” he demanded furiously.
“You-Know-Who used the Cruciatus curse on my wife,” said Lucius, panic in his voice. “She collapsed with this pain in her abdomen, and he Disapparated.”
The Auror nodded. Aurelia’s eyes widened as she recognised him as a member of the Order; Kingsley, if she recalled correctly. “Please, help me,” she pleaded.
Kingsley pressed a coin into their hand. “This is an emergency Portkey to the hospital. Both of you need to hold a finger to it, then say ‘St. Mungo’s’.”
Aurelia nodded. “Please,” she asked desperately. “Get word to Uncle Albus.”
Kingsley nodded, and ran back to the battle. Aurelia and Lucius each held a finger to the coin, and Lucius said “St. Mungo’s” in a shaking voice. They ended up in the front lobby of the hospital. Lucius scooped Aurelia into his arms and ran to the front desk.
“How may I help?” asked the receptionist.
“My wife, she’s been cursed in the battle in Hogsmeade, and is having these terrible pains in her abdomen. Please, help us!”
Aurelia felt as she was about to pass out with pain. A Healer came running down the corridor, waving his wand and muttering diagnostic spells. “Mrs Malfoy, is there any chance you could be pregnant?”
Aurelia thought hard, and realised that she had not had a period since before Lucius raped her that night. Her eyes widened as she realised the implications of her actions. “Yes, I believe I am,” she said, crying as she looked into Lucius’ eyes.
“We may still be able to save the child, Mrs Malfoy. Follow me, Sir, we need to get her to the maternity ward straight away.”
Lucius and the Healer ran along the corridor, coming to a halt at the very end, where Lucius laid her on the bed as the Healers went to work attempting to stabilise her. Aurelia fainted, and the last thing she saw were the tears running down Lucius’ face.
