One Last Chance

Chapter Seven

Trixie was fussy that night,so Ginny didn't have time to go chase after Draco.The baby seemed to be able to sense that Ginny was upset,and Draco not being there seemed to make the little one worse.She kept shouting "Daddy,Daddy" over and over again,which just made Ginny more impatient since she knew Trixie did not mean Harry.

How could Draco have done this to her,Ginny thought as she tried rocking Trixie to sleep.How dare he,she knew he'd left her because of his father.Oh how she despised Lucius Malfoy.Normally she didn't care to use the word hate,but this was an extreme case of it.She had half a mind to go over to Malfoy Manor and give that foul old Death Eater a piece of her mind,had it not been for wanting to keep her daughter safe and live to see her child's second birthday.

But still,Draco had obeyed his father's wishes.He'd cut off all contact with Ginny,and their daughter.

On the other hand,he had snuck off to see her graduation.It made her wonder if he'd been sneaking about and watching her at other times.She would've thought that thought would have bothered her,but it didn't.It actually felt nice knowing he'd actually cared enough to defy his father's orders and go see her and Trixie,even if it was slightly creepy.

Wait a minute,did she have feelings for Draco?No,that was impossible.He was a Death Eater,and he abandoned her and their unborn child.But...he had done it for her protection,as he'd explained in the note he never sent to her.

Ginny thought back to when Draco and she had had their fight which resulted in the ending of their Hogwarts' romance.No wonder he did it that way.He'd wanted her to hate him so she wouldn't go looking for him.Because of that she'd spent her last few weeks of 6th year in complete misery.Then,an odd memory came to her.

Flashback

It was two days after she and Draco had broken up.Ginny had refused to be around people.She spent her days in her dormitory,being excused from class due to her pregnancy.At night,she crept down into the common room,sleeping in the armchairs,half hoping Draco would come in the middle of the night and tell her he wanted her back.

Ginny had been sleeping in one of the arm chairs when she thought she heard someone come in through the portrait hole.Thinking it was either Ron or Hermione returning from prefect duties,she ignored whoever it was.The person walked cautiously towards her and stood over her.Ginny kept her eyes closed,thinking it was a dream and not wanting to awake and find no one there.

The person stayed there for a few moments,then she felt a single tear drop land on her swollen stomach.Wishing the dream to just go away,she felt soft lips caress her cheek.Her eyes snapped open at this.It wasn't a dream !Only to see a cloaked figure retreating,out of the dormitory.

End Flashback

It had been him !Ginny realized.Draco had come and said good-bye to her,she had just thought it was a dream.Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized she hadn't dreamnt the good-bye kiss.

"Mama,no cry !Me find Daddy."Trixie wriggled free and ran towards the stairs,shouting for Draco.Ginny chased after her.

"Trixie !Grandma and Grandpa are sleeping,come back here !"Trixie attempted to climb up the stairs,but her chubby little legs couldn't go up that high.So,she turned around and looked at her mother.She put her finger to her lips as a signal for quiet,then put her finger to Ginny's lips.Ginny found out why,she heard a large thud on the front door.She glanced at the clock,noting it was 3:00 a.m.,grabbed Trixie and ran to the door.

As soon as Ginny opened the door,she smelt the stench of alcohol on Draco as he stumbled into the kitchen.Trixie put her hands over her nose.

"Yucky !" Trixie exclaimed,struggling to get out of Ginny's hold on her.Ginny put Trixie on the floor and watched at Draco drunkenly made his way to a chair.

"Have you been drinking all night,Draco?"Ginny asked,the smell of firewhiskey making her feel light headed.

"Shhh," Draco whispered."don't tell Ginny,if you tell her she'll never take me back."Draco sat down on a chair,nearly falling off.

"Well,drunk or not,we need to talk." Ginny told him as Draco made a face.

"Why?" He whined.Ginnny sighed.He was really annoying her.She wished he hadn't ran off to a pub.

"Because I want to know why you lied to me and this can't wait until morning," She explained,keeping her voice calm."now,why did you lie to me?Why didn't you tell me you still had feelings for me?"

"Do we have to talk about this?" Draco asked,staring at Trixie as she attempted to open a baby-proof cupboard.

"Yes we do,now tell me,and the truth this time." Draco sighed.

"Why would I tell you if I still had feelings for you?" Draco asked."nothing can happen,cause you're with him." He sneered at the last word,making it obvious that he still felt that boyhood hatred for Harry.

"Draco,you left me.That showed me that you didn't care.We could've ran off together somewhere.We could've hidden.You could've been a father to Trixie." Ginny told him.

"I missed Trixie." Draco said sadly.

"Well then how do you think she feels,she doesn't even know her own father !" Ginny half shouted.

"She's mine?" He asked stupidly,tearing his glossy eyes away from the baby to stare at Ginny who rolled her eyes.

"Of course she's yours !Are you daft?She looks just like you,her eyes,her light hair,the shape of her face !" Ginny was begining to get angry.Maybe he was too drunk to be talking about this.No,they had to talk now.This wasn't something that could wait until he slept it off,it was too big.

"Yeah..." Draco looked back over at Trixie."she's so pretty,just like you." Ginny ignored his compliment.

"So tell me Draco,why did you stop caring?Why did you decide to listen to your father?"

"Because," Draco answered."I'm just like him.I'm a Death Eater,remember?"

"There's no way you're like him Draco.You're father is a vile,heartless man who's incapable of love.I'd bet he couldn't even bear to say the word.You,are different.You did love me,and I know you love Trixie too.You're just too dim to admit it."

"You don't even know the whole story !" Draco shouted."I was marked with the Dark Mark,I am a Death Eater,whether you want to believe it or not.I have killed people.Everyone at Hogwarts was right about who I am.I don't deserve to be in your life,let alone Trixie's."

"But you're her father !" Ginny said,standing up over Draco.

"So what if I am?" He asked."Potter's more of a father to her then I am,so be with him.It's more convinient anyway." Draco stood up and made to leave,but Ginny grabbed his arm.

"But I don't love Harry," Ginny told him.It hurt her to admit it,but it was true.Draco was right,she was only with him because it was convinient.It was easier then being with Draco,her family hated him.And Harry now had a steady job.But she sick of kidding herself.Draco cocked an eyebrow at her,staring into her blue eyes rimmed with tears."I love you." Ginny pulled Draco into a long,passionate,long awaited kiss as Trixie clapped her hands happily,watching them and smiling.
