Chapter 8 ~ Odessa Arrives at Hogsmeade
Odessa sat on the Hogwarts express gazing at the passing landscape with a bored expression. She was exasperated, having kicked several wizards out of her compartment in quick succession for bothering her with stupid attempts at conversation. Finally, she locked the compartment door with a ward, stubbornly refusing to open it for other passengers. She liked her solitude, for the most part, and didn’t feel like being hit on. But when you looked like Odessa Divine looked, that was to be expected. The witch should be fined for having illegal curves. The fact that she wore robes that accentuated every one didn’t help. Combined with her kissable lips, touched with red lipstick, her gorgeous cat-like green eyes surrounded by lush black lashes and thick, black hair that begged for fingers to be run through it, she made up a package of femininity that most men wanted to unwrap on sight.
Too bad the inside of Odessa did not match the outside. Because of her beauty, the woman had gone through a horrible experience as a girl, an experience no young girl should be subjected to, sexual abuse by an uncle. The child of an absentee father, and weak mother who was unable to even digest the idea that her own brother would abuse his niece, Odessa suffered through his abuse from the age of fourteen until the age of seventeen, at which point his slashed and dismembered body was found behind a dumpster on the seedy side of Little Hangelton, not far from her home. The story was he had been killed by some kind of animal, possibly a werewolf. What made the murder so memorable was it appeared his genitals had been bitten off while he was still alive.
So Odessa really had no use for men. On rare occasions, before her obsession with Severus, she would indulge herself with a stray man now and then, but it never ended in a good way. Never. In her mind, all men were horrible predators, and deserved what they got. When Severus’ story came out in the papers, after the deatheater attack in the park and his past history as a spy was once again brought to the public eye, Odessa had read about him, then proceeded to find out everything she could about the man, scouring magazines and periodicals, gossip columns and tabloids. She formed a noble, yet impossible image of him as the perfect man in her mind that she couldn’t release. He was a hero, an aristocrat, rich, dark, intense and a loner like she was. He was her perfect match.
He wasn’t a handsome man, but there was something about him that drew her. Looks weren’t everything. She spent hours obsessing over him. At the time he came to her notice, Severus wasn’t married, though involved with a former mudblood student. She saw the picture of him kissing the young witch with a powerful passion in the Prophet, and that was when she lost her heart and her mind, blowing the photo up and replacing Hermione’s image with her own. She began collecting any and everything that referred to him. Covering her walls with his photos so she could gaze at him for hours. Anything with his image or name became an instant treasure to her and she spent galleon after galleon to acquire them. She began to withdraw from reality, and created a world in which he was the center, and she was his one true love, having one-sided conversations and making love to a dildo with his head on it. She had a vivid imagination, and these bouts of self-love were, in her mind, intimate trysts with the Potions Master.
When Hermione married him, Odessa went into a rage, tearing down his pictures and destroying everything that she had collected. But after a few days of living in the carnage, she repaired everything and put his pictures back up. Hermione wouldn’t be able to stop her from having him. Married men left their wives all the time for other women. Odessa was just the kind of woman they left them for.
From the outside, Odessa Divine was functional, beautiful and a little standoffish, but inwardly, she was crazy as they came. She was also very, very dangerous when crossed.
The Hogwarts Express pulled into the Hogsmeade station, slowing to a halt with a hiss of steam. Odessa retrieved her single bag from the overhead rack. She had sent the rest of her things ahead by post, with the implicit instructions that nothing be unpacked when it arrived at Hogwarts, just set in her rooms. She opened the door to her compartment and walked out into the small corridor, ready to make her way to the platform. She was almost immediately accosted by wizard intent on carrying her bag for her.
“No thank you,” she said, pulling the bag against her and shouldering past the man. She exited the train without further incident. She stepped out onto the platform and looked about. She noticed a thin, stooped man with long lank hair and dour expression holding up a sign that read “Odessa Divine” in front of a black carriage. A cat sat astride the carriage, which was pulled by two, bony, winged horse-like creatures, who both looked at her intently with their white sightless eyes, stomping their hooves nervously and snorting as she approached. Filch’s sour demeanor at having to pick up a passenger changed immediately as he watched the beautiful witch walk towards him.
“Merlin’s beard,” he muttered under his breath as his eyes raked over Odessa. Filch might be a cantankerous old bastard, but he appreciated beauty as much as the next man.
“Miss Divine?” he asked politely as Odessa stopped in front of him with a slight smile.
“Yes,” she answered shortly.
“I’m Argus Filch, ma’am. I’ll be taking you to Hogwarts. May I take your bag?” he asked, reaching for her satchel.
“No, I’ll just keep it with me,” she said, drawing the bag out of reach.
Filch bowed a little. “As you wish,” he replied, opening the door for her, and taking her hand to help her in. He didn’t get much chance to touch lovely women and he savored her soft skin in his hand as he assisted her. Mrs. Norris looked down at the witch and yowled loudly.
“Hello, friend,” Odessa said to the cat. Mrs. Norris twitched an ear at her. Argus noticed this. His cat rarely acknowledged strangers. He looked in the window at her.
“If you need anything Miss Divine, there’s a rope inside that you can tug. It will ring a bell and I will stop to assist you,” Argus said.
“Thank you, Mr. Filch,” the witch replied, “I believe I will be fine.”
Argus nodded, and slowly climbed into the carriage seat, sliding Mrs. Norris over, and picking up the reins. With a snap he shouted, “Get along, now!” The thestrals took off at a good clip, heading for the castle, Odessa’s new life for the next few months, and of course, Severus Snape.
