Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“What are you talking about?” Chloe berated Severus over her wine glass.
“My dear, you did not think Hagrid was merely big boned, did you?” He smirked at her. She looked at him and then laughed.
“Yes...I think I did!” He rolled his eyes. That was always a good sign. It meant he was fighting a smile.
Severus and Chloe met no less than three times a week for drinks after dinner. For over six weeks, they met and paved the road to a wonderful friendship. One weekend he took her on a proper tour of Hogsmeade and she felt much more comfortable in his charge than the last time.
He spent a lot of time listening to Chloe talk, nodding his head and making snarky comments when cued. She in turn, enjoyed this very much. She so desperately needed someone to talk to, and he was such a willing audience.
However there was that problem Severus was continuing to have. Those erotic, wet dreams about her. Every dream got more vivid, more real to him. On the few occasions he didn’t dream, due to sleeping draught, he felt empty the next morning. He noticed that he only had the dreams after encountering her the night before. If he were to cut off ties with her, he would cease to have these dreams, so he thought. He made love to her almost every night in his dreams. In reality, she was very absorbed in learning about the wizarding world. And she still never wore her hair down, much to his disappointment. A few times he probed her mind and caught glimpses of himself in there. But they always were of him sitting in the chair, talking to her. Nothing like his thoughts. Thank the Gods that she couldn’t read his thoughts. He wanted to know if his obsession was shared, or was it merely one of those things that happens to old men? He would have to ask Dumbledore.
Chloe worked hard to not show her true desires. She read about something called Occlumency and she worked feverishly to keep her mind occupied at all times in Severus’ presence. What would he think of her if he knew that almost every night, she would lay in her bed and think of him. Think of his hands on her body, his absolutely delicious lips devouring her inch by inch. Her body was on fire when he was around. On the very few occasions they touched in an innocent way, he always recoiled his hands back. She realized that he didn’t want that kind of contact. So she had to settle for putting out her own fires, much to her own disappointment.

It happened on one stormy night, Severus and Chloe were continuing their debate about slavery.
“It’s just not fair Severus! You wizards think just because you can do magic, that you’re above all others! It just isn’t so! I’ve read about house elves, they have wonderful magic all their own. Some think, more powerful than wizard magic.” Chloe loved this debate. Severus always got angry and red in the face at being accused of being a tyrant.
“Are you completely incapable of comprehending that some creatures prefer a life of servitude? Because they do! It is what they were meant to do!” He snapped at her.
“I suppose that I am incapable of understanding ignorance. Myself, not being ignorant, have a hard time grasping the concept.” She said triumphantly. He leveled his eyes at her smiling face.
Oh Gods he hated that his heart did flip flops when she looked at him that way. Even more so that she wasn’t the least bit afraid of his temper. They had gotten into some very heated debates over the past few weeks. It always ended with her smiling at him and him backing down. Not tonight. He had thought this one out carefully.
“Ignorant people rarely know when they are ignorant. It is the curse of being ignorant.” He curled his lip at her and her face fell. He smiled inwardly as he saw the shock on her face. Yes…I just called you ignorant.
“Severus Snape…can you honestly say that…that…you think…that” She was blind with anger. He had never pushed a debate to personally attack her. How dare he? She stood now, with her hands on her hips and faced his sitting figure in the chair. He stood and faced her.
“Think what? Now you can not even form intelligent words.” He knew he was provoking her into a real argument. He just couldn’t help it. He sneered down at her livid face.
“ I have a few choice intelligent words for you. Loads of colorful metaphors aimed at showing you what an insufferable ass I think you are!” She stared at him. She had taken a step forward as she spoke and he looked at her pretty eyes, now flaming in anger. He hadn’t really expected this. He just wanted to win an argument. Not completely piss her off.
No matter. This could be fun too.
“Really? Could you perhaps get it together enough to form those words? Or do you need a moment to collect yourself?” He had taken a step forward as well and now they were face to face, a mere foot apart. He saw she was breathing heavily and he found a sort of arousal in her anger.
“I don’t want to fracture you fragile ego my darling Professor Snape. It would be a right shame to bring down the big bad Professor. Men, wizards or muggles, are fragile creatures you know. They’re like little children-” He cut her off.
“And when was the last time a man allowed you close enough to fragile his ego?” He moved closer and so did she. Squaring off for the fight. Neither would back down now.
This was getting interesting. He was taken aback by her moving so close to him and looking directly in his eyes He could feel her breath on his mouth. If he were to lean in just a fraction…
“Last man Severus? What’s the matter, are you jealous? Or interested?” A small smile played on her mouth as he registered shock from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. What was this? He hadn’t planned for any of this to happen.
It enraged him to see her satisfied smile growing on her face. Her face was still so close.
They were both brought back down to reality by a knock at the door.
Chloe stepped back immediately, as did he. They looked at each other for a moment in confusion.
Another knock.
Chloe walked to the door and opened it.
Standing in the doorway was Albus Dumbledore. Chloe begged him to enter and he surveyed the room. A smile was on his face, but not in his eyes.
“I am so sorry to interrupt your…quiet evening.” Here Severus snorted and Chloe snickered. They locked eyes for a fraction of a second and she smiled at him. No harm done. They would just continue the argument tomorrow.
“I have some news for you Severus, you very much need to hear. It is urgent.” Chloe watched Severus’ face harden. He obviously knew what this was about, but she didn’t. Severus nodded and followed Albus to the door.
“Please accept my apologies Chloe.” Albus said as he opened the door to leave. Severus was right behind him, but she grabbed his sleeve and held him back.
“I could curse you for that.” he spat.
“Yes, yes whatever Severus.” She drew herself up and held his arm close to her. “Will you be alright?” She allowed all of her emotions and concern to show in her voice and her eyes. She didn’t know why, but she had a terrible feeling. He eyed her and nodded slightly. Chloe reached out and grazed his cheek with her hand.
“Take care.” She didn’t know why she did it, but she couldn’t take it back now. He nodded again and left.
