chapter 8
Disclaimer: I own nothing!!
A/N Thanks for all the support peoples!
Sorry that this story seems to be progressing slowly but I\'m trying to handle the sbject delicately I don\'t want to rush the characters into anything.
Oh by the way do you think its too late for me to get a beta? its just that its harder to find mistakes in your own work and i often spend longer looking through a chapter than i do writing it lol.
Hermione’s eyes widened in shock, and she raised her hands pushing against his chest, until he broke away.
“Hermione let me talk to you, please.”
Hermione bit her lip and looked into Draco’s stormy grey eyes..
Draco took her hesitancy as a positive sign and silently led her to the couch.
“Hermione, I know nothing I can say will change what I have done to you, but you have to know that I would spend the rest of my life trying to prove to you that I am truly sorry. Please Hermione I’m not asking for your forgiveness but I NEED to be a part of my baby’s lives, both of them.”
“How did…?” Hermione began but she was cut off by Draco.
“Just think it over? Please?”
Draco’s heart was doing back flips in his chest and his hands were clammy with sweat.
Hermione was trembling and she had tears running slowly down her face.
“Why...why me?”
Draco took a deep breath.
“I…I don’t know I just…” He sighed and continued, “I noticed you in fourth year but I knew I could never have you the way I wanted. I found myself falling in love with you and there was nothing I could do about it. I didn’t recognise what I was feeling at first, I’d never felt like that about anyone, not even my parents. I was the son of a Deatheater, if my father had found out, if he had even had a clue he would have killed you. I had to cover it up for your own protection; I was constantly nasty to you, flinging insults at you just to make sure you never guessed how I really felt. That night when you were walking back from the library, I only wanted to make you love me back…but when I saw what I’d done, when you threatened me with Azkaban. I just couldn’t let you remember…”
Draco clutched her hands in his and her stomach lurched, she stared into his grey eyes, so filled with anguish and regret. She could only imagine what horrors he must have seen in his life, what he must have been through.
Suddenly he didn’t repulse her anymore and she opened her mouth to speak but he silenced her with a wave of his hand and stood up walking to his dormitory without looking back.
Hermione sat on the sofa alone and confused. She didn’t know how she was meant to feel about Draco, and she curled up on the sofa a cried herself to sleep.
Five months had passed since Draco’s talk with Hermione and she had been trying her best to avoid him. Not much had changed around the school, although no-one was quite able to discover why Blaise now walked with ever-such a slight limp. Draco seemed to be back to his normal sneering self but Hermione often noticed him watching her longingly. Her emotions were still in turmoil since that night five months ago, and all those pregnancy hormones weren’t helping any, she thought it was best to avoid him for now, it was safer that way. She was now quite heavily pregnant and could feel the babies kicking in her womb, luckily the concealment charm that Dumbledore had taught her had worked amazingly and none of the students, excluding Draco, had noticed any difference in her appearance except for the rosy flush on her cheeks and the light dancing in her eyes.
It was Friday afternoon, the last lesson of the day. Potions.
Snape stood at the front of the class regarding the students with distaste.
Granger was acting oddly; she dropped her quill on the floor but seemed quite unable to manoeuvre herself around a non-existent obstacle to retrieve it. He raised an eyebrow.
“Miss Granger!”
Everyone in the class looked around and Draco felt a slight pang of sympathy watching her struggle like that. He wondered why Potty or The Weasel hadn’t tried to help her with her with the quill. Actually why didn’t anyone seem to notice the fact that Granger was quite heavily pregnant. Not that he wasn’t grateful but still…
“What on earth are you doing?” Snape drawled silkily
Hermione’s cheeks burned crimson. She looked up into the cold slate eyes of professor Snape, even Harry and Ron were looking at her curiously, and she cleared her throat.
“I um…I am trying to pick up my quill…” Hermione mumbled lamely pointing to the quill that was lying on the dungeon floor.
Snape’s eyes glowed menacingly at Hermione, and she stared back at him transfixed. The class looked on silently only two of the pupils in the class room knew what was going on between Hermione and Snape. He was performing Legilmency.
However whereas Harry was curiously wondering why Snape was performing the mind-reading spell, to Draco it was horrifyingly clear, and a chill ran through him as though he had been doused in cold water.
After breaking eye contact with Hermione, Snape walked over, picked up her quill and passed it to her.
“Now take your seat.”
The whole class looked on in astonishment at this uncharacteristic display from their potions master. Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe sat at the back of the classroom their mouths agape and Pansy Parkinson was looking as if she had swallowed something particularly foul. Harry and Ron both furrowed their brow in confusion and Neville looked positively horror-struck.
“Get on with your work!” Snape snapped at them.
He walked over to his desk and sat down. So, Granger was pregnant, with twins no less. He could see her pregnant stomach now; she must have used a concealment charm. Yes, he admitted to himself begrudgingly she was an extremely intelligent witch.
He was very disappointed in Draco; Snape had thought that Draco had much more sense than that. Much more indeed, but, he did notice Grangers feelings towards him when he had been looking through her mind. Young Mr Malfoy was an extremely lucky young man.
He would be keeping an extra close eye on the two stdents from now on he decided.
“Class dismissed!”
Hermione ran out of the classroom ignoring the calls of Ron and Harry. She was so embarrassed and headed immediately to her dormitory and sat on her bed, she reached for a wooden box that she kept under her mattress; opening it she pulled out a chocolate frog, hurriedly unwrapping it and popping it whole in her mouth.
Looking further into the box she reached for a tattered piece of paper that she had slid into the cover of a book named. 1000 baby names for the modern wizarding family, a gift from Dumbledore.
Hermione always planned ahead, it was just in her nature, and she had already chosen names for her children.
She stroked the piece of paper lovingly and looked down at the name of her babies whispering them lovingly under her breath.
“Kaida Jane Malfoy, Tybalt Benedict Malfoy…”
A/N it took me ABSOLUTELY ages to decide on the baby names. I hope you like them.
Kaida - is japanese for little Dragon which i thought was cute considering that Draco\'s name means dragon.
Jane - is just Hermione\'s middle name.
Tybalt - is a character from Romeo and Juliet, the book that Hermione was reading in the library when Blaise made a fool of himself. He kind of reminds me of Draco a bit so i thought that would be appropriate.
Benedict - is latin for blessed and i chose that because i thought it sounded good with the rest of the name LOL.
