Chapter 7: Ravens
Ever since Hunter had come to the ranch, Shawn noticed quite a change in his blonde refugee. He no longer harassed him about his cooking, requesting mostly raw fruits, vegetables, and had come to really like his meat. With the blonde man eating more, he seemed to be filling out much more quickly.
Most of Lucius\'s other chidings had begun to vanish too. Shawn was even able to weedle the other\'s name out of him. Lucius. Pronounced Lue-Si-Us. To his guest, that was the MOST important thing he got right lately. And in return, Lucius had begun to call him Shawn more often, instead of just \'muggle\'.
He also noticed that over the past few weeks, more and more of his barbells had begun to vanish. He suspected Lucius, seeing as how his arms were looking a bit more muscular. But he didn\'t want to ask for fear of getting more bizarre British slang thrown at him.
\"Mugg- Shawn!\"
Shawn looked up at the top of the stairs at the taller blonde wearing just a towel around his trim hips. His body was sleek with moisture from his shower, and his mane of white blonde hair stuck to his back darkened a little by a good conditioning. Yes, Lucius was looking far from the emaciated man he came across almost a month ago. He felt his cheeks flush a little as he spoke. \"Yes, Lucius?\"
\"Do you have any more towels?\"
\"Oh- yeah, I do. There\'s some in the linen closet down the hallway.\"
\"Ah, very good. Thank you.\"
Shawn watched Lucius as he disappeared from sight, cursing himself for even thinking of Lucius in a sexual manner. The man drove him nuts, and the sooner he got out of here, the better.
-
Later than day, Shawn was sweeping up the front porch humming softly. There were a good amount of ravens around, pecking at the dirt. He didn\'t think much of it- whenever there were birds around, usually that meant rain, which was always a good thing.
Something off in the distance caught his attention as he squinted to make it out. It looked like at least three ravens flying toward the house, carrying what looked like a long stick in their talons. Which made such little sense to him, that Shawn opted to go back inside- it must be the heat.
Lucius had come down the stairs wearing a pair of Hunter\'s old jeans, and a plain white tee shirt. Of course he had to use a belt- he may have been more built, but he was still no where near Hunter\'s size. \"I\'m feeling much better. I don\'t think there should be a problem with me going outside today. You said we could go horse back riding.\"
Shawn felt a flush creeping up on his cheeks again that he fought to ignore. \"Okay, if you\'re feeling up to it. I\'ll go grab some sun screen from the bathroom.\"
---
Don\'t think I haven\'t noticed Shawn blushing around me. It\'s letting me know that I am doing a decent job at building myself up. I smirked some going to grab my prison boots- they were the only thing left from my uniform, and a half way decent pair of boots.
A soft \'thump\' noise came at the door, catching my attention. I peered threw the curtains at the source of the sound, finding no one at the door, but a long cylindrical package resting on the welcome mat. I opened the door feeling a shiver run down my spine looking at that plain brown paper. Around the middle was a simple American postage label- I\'ve seen plenty of them on Shawn\'s letters- however... This one was addressed to me. It could have been sent by one man, and one man only. Not even the dark lord could find me way out here. My hands trembled a little as I picked up the package- it could only be one thing.
I tore off the wrapping and pulled out the object I had been missing almost as much as Draco. My wand. My wonderful, powerful wand. Hidden beneath the walking cane exterior with the snake silver topper was one of the finest weapons to ever grace any wizard\'s hands. I clutched it and fell back against the stairs, finally feeling complete. I sighed happily running my fingers down the smooth shaft of the cane. My again, all mine. Gingerly I pulled the wand from it\'s protective case, finding a long yellowed piece of parchment. I detached it quickly, feeling oddly comforted by the nearly unreadable scrawl of Severus Snape.
\'Old Friend,
Hope this finds you in good health. It took quite a bit of doing to procure your wand, and even more to find you again. I didn\'t send this by owl, they\'ve been tracking all delivery methods since... well... I can\'t say. Ravens- though rarely used for their lack of accuracy, as you should know- were the only way that I could ever get this to you.
Draco is in my care now, for more reasons that I cannot say in this letter. He misses you greatly. I can honestly say that if the school year had been completed, he would have gotten very high marks in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Ah, I suppose you don\'t know what happened at the end of the term. We will have much to talk about when I see you.
I will however say that you are to stay where you are. You are safe there from both the ministry, and Lord Voldemort. He\'s angry with you Lucius, very, very angry. And yes, as you must be getting rather pissed at me now, but I cannot tell you why in this letter. Make sure you keep your wand with you at all times. Death eaters can\'t find you there, but you\'ll be wise to have it just in case.
You won\'t have to wait long, I know how impatient you are. I\'ll be there to visit you three days from now approximately at noon.
Till then,
You should know very well who this is.\'
Damn him. He knows me too well, yet he teases me the way I hate the most. He knows something that I don\'t, and he won\'t tell me. You can\'t get secrets out of Severus Snape, his mind is a steel vice trap- once something goes in, it doesn\'t have a chance of ever leaving.
Though when he does say something like \'You\'re safe where you are\' he\'s always right. But that doesn\'t help me feel any better. There\'s a nasty knot slowly forming in the pit of my stomach that won\'t go away- when the dark lord is mad at someone, they don\'t have very much time left. In fact, they have a habit of turning up very dead. Along with their families.
\"Penny for your thoughts?\"
Shawn\'s voice brought me back- I had almost forgotten that he was here. I shook my head and frowned. \"Why would I want your American pennies? They\'re worthless where I come from.\"
\"It\'s just a saying.\" He said rolling his eyes at me then they trailed down to eye my cane. \"Why didn\'t you tell me needed a walking stick? And where did you get that?\"
\"I...\" I could hex his memory and make him forget about this. But just the thought of using a spell on Shawn... It made me almost sick to my stomach. \"It was in your downstairs closet. I went looking for a hat and found it in the back.\"
\"Oh. I didn\'t think I had canes in there, but maybe some one left one here.\" Shawn shrugged passing me the sun screen. \"Here you are.\"
I grabbed the bottle, and then his arm. \"Shawn, listen to me. Don\'t answer the door to people you don\'t know. Don\'t talk to anyone who looks strange, and especially ones with this mark on their arm.\" I said releasing the sunscreen to roll up the tee shirt sleeve a little to show him the dark mark. \"Tell me if you see anyone with this, alright? It\'s very important that you do.\"
Shawn gave me an odd look as I released his arm. \"Okay. No problem... Are you going to be okay, Lucius? You\'re looking very pale.\"
\"No, I\'m fine. I just need to get out in the sun for awhile.\" He frowned at me for a few seconds but then gave a nod. He knew I stubborn, just like I know he\'s the same way.
\"Oh. Well, if you start feeling sick, then we\'re going inside.\"
\"I wouldn\'t have it any other way.\"
