Chapter 8
Dog Food

Harry whimpered as they appeared again at the Malfoy Manor. He jumped out of Lucius’ arms and watched as they un-shrunk his supplies. Harry growled as they pull the dog-food out and went to pout on the couch.

Meanwhile, the Malfoys were eyeing Harry.

“Do you have any idea how to train a dog?” Lucius nudged Draco.

“Nope.” Draco said cheerfully, and stuffed all the supplies in Lucius’ arms. “But since it’s your dog, I don’t have to worry about it. Happy training!” He ran off to his room.

“Brat,” Lucius growled, and looked down at his armful of supplies.

“Okay,” He muttered under his breath. “Dogs doors.”

Lucius carried they door to the door leading back into the garden, and installed it on his door.

“Niveus!” He called out, clapped his hands. Niveus grunt and shifted on the couch, but didn’t move.

xx Nope, not moving. Not until I get to eat normal food. xx

“Niveus!” Lucius tried again. Seeing Niveus wasn’t about to move anytime soon, he walked over and picked Niveus up, with Niveus struggling in his arms.

xx Put me down, you bastard! xx

Lucius set Niveus down in front of the dog door. Niveus eyed the door and then glared at him.

“Ok,” Lucius started, feeling awkward, “This is a dog door…”

xx I know that, idiot. xx

“And if you want to…er…do your business…”

Harry blushed.

“Go through that and do it in the backyard, ok?” Lucius stared at Niveus, blushing slightly from his speech.

xx Merlin, does he just tell a dog to do that and expect it to do it? xx

Lucius and Harry stared at each other for a moment, each of them expecting a reaction from the other.

“Ok,” Lucius said slowly, “I’m just going to think that you got it.”

Niveus stared at his incredulously.

xx God, he’s such a…idiot! Can you believe he was Voldemort’s most trusted Death Eater? xx

A popping noise distracted him.

“Sir,” A house-elf whimpered, “Your dinner is ready.”

Lucius nodded, and send the house elf off. He turned over and walked over to the dinning room with Harry right on his heels.

xx This will be the last night that I have normal food…Or maybe he’ll just forget about the dog food. xx

Harry jumped on Lucius’ lap as soon as they’re settled, and sniffed the food in Lucius’ plate. Draco raised his eyebrows.

“He’s smart, father,” Draco remarked, “But we probably want to give him dog food, it will be healthier for him.”

Niveus growled and glared at Draco.

xx Damn you, Draco! I swear when I turn back to myself again I’m going to make you pay for making me eat dog food… xx

“Right,” Lucius said, and placed Niveus on the floor. He walked over to the living room again to get the sack of dog food.

Lucius placed a plate on the floor and poured a plateful of dog food in the plate. He guided an unwilling Niveus to the plate.

“Here you go.” Lucius said softly.

Niveus sniffed at the food and backed away from it as far it can.

xx eww…I’m supposed to eat that? It smells horrible… xx

Lucius scowled and moved the plate in front of Niveus again. “Eat,” he ordered.

xx no xx

Niveus glanced at Lucius and jumped on Draco’s lap, sniffing the food and whining.

xx Draco…you’re nice…well, compared to Lucius…so can I have some food? xx

“Aww…” Draco crooned, and petted Niveus’ head. “Let’s just give him normal food…just for once…”

He reached out and grabbed some bread, which Niveus accepted gladly.

xx yum…you’re my new best friend… xx

“No,” Lucius said harshly, and took Harry away from Draco. He set the plate in front of Harry again, and pushed Harry’s neck down.

“Eat or you aren’t getting any food.” He demanded.

Niveus growled softly and walked away from the room.

Lucius sighed, and walked to the table, picking at his own food.

“I don’t think he likes dog food,” Draco said, taking a bite of his salad.

“He needs to eat it,” Lucius said, “It’s healthy for him.”

Draco snorted.

“Won’t be healthy if he refuses to eat.”

Lucius scowled.

“He will eat it if he’s hungry enough.”

Harry limped through the Manor a week later, feeling extremely dizzy. He had not eaten in a week. Of course it wasn’t that hard for him to reject food, when he had stayed at the Dursleys he went through the days without food, but this is the longest time that he hadn’t touched food.

He had learned to stay away from the dining room during meals, so the Malfoys wouldn’t force him to eat dog food.

He wondered why the Malfoys hadn’t asked or noticed that he wasn’t eating anything, or maybe they thought he went to the gardens everyday and ate birds while they were eating.

He sighed in relief and he fell to the couch, where he had mostly stayed during the week. He had no energy to be jumping around.

Lucius walked over to the couch and sat down beside Niveus, opening his book. Niveus grunted and shifted, not taking his head from his paws.

Lucius tried to read his book, but couldn’t keep his mind of Niveus. He was very worried about the puppy. Niveus seemed to only stay on the couch for the day and never went to anywhere else. He hadn’t seen Niveus during meals neither, which meant it wasn’t eating. It was getting thinner and thinner everyday. Sometimes he could feel the dog shaking in his arms when it’s asleep. Could Niveus hate dog food so much that he refused to eat for a week? Maybe dog food isn’t a good idea.

The house elf informed Lucius that lunch was ready. Lucius made the move to get up and move to the dining room, but Niveus didn’t move.

Lucius sighed in defeat.

“Come, Niveus. “

Niveus raised its head to look at Lucius, but didn’t move.

“You need to eat.” Lucius said simply.

xx nope, not eating dog food. xx

Niveus put its head back to its paws again.

Lucius sighed.

“You can eat normal food if you want.” He said softly.

Niveus raise its head again and looked at Lucius doubtfully.

xx Really? xx

“Come.” Lucius said again.

Niveus got up slowly and walked slowly towards the dining room, swaying on its feet every few seconds.

Lucius frowned as he noticed the swaying. He bent down and scooped Niveus into his arms, carrying him to the dining room.

xx Ah…a free ride…thanks Malfoy. xx

Lucius put Harry down at his lap as he sat down, and cut out a piece of steak, taking the steak in his hands and put it in front of Niveus. Niveus waggled his tail and snatched the piece into his mouth, chewing happily.

xx Ah…meat…how I missed it… xx

“You finally decided that Dog Food isn’t so healthy?” Draco drawled.

Lucius glared at Draco, and fed Niveus another piece.

“It is healthier,” Lucius argued back, “If he eats it.”

“Ah…but he doesn’t.” Draco pointed out. “Plus, the only damage normal food does is adding fat to Niveus.”

“Well, we can’t have an over-weight dog.” Lucius smirked.

xx HEY! I’m not fat! xx

“But seeing now it’s under weight…” Draco said, “We can stuff him.”

Lucius snorted, and finished his meal. Niveus rolled onto him back, groaning happily.

xx I’m full… xx

Lucius put Harry on the floor and Harry ran to Draco, rubbing his face on Draco’s leg to thank Draco for the food.

Draco reached down and stroked Harry behind his ears.

“How’s the training going?” Draco asked.

Harry growled suddenly.

xx NO! Not the training! xx

Lucius looked like he just remembered it.

“That reminds me…” He mumbled, “We still need to train.”

xx MALFOY! It’s your entire entire fault! WHY did you remind him about the training??? Grrrrr xx

Harry barked viciously at Draco, and bit down on Draco’s pants, ripping the expensive fabric.

Draco yelped and jumped back, then glared at Niveus.

“Father! That cost me 30 gallons!” Draco complained, holding his ripped pants.

“No, it cost ME 30 gallons,” Lucius rolled his eyes, “But we do have billions of more gallons,” He said.

Draco growled and pushed Niveus towards Lucius.

“Train him! NOW!” Draco said furiously.

Lucius sighed and picked up Niveus.

“Let’s go training.” He murmured.
