Hermione seeks to prove Snape wrong, but ends up proving him right
Hermione went straight to Remus’s room, desperate to release her anger in the form of passion. She approached the painting, it was a familiar one. Godric Griffindor smiled at her from his frame when he saw her approach.
“Miss Granger, or is it Professor Granger now?” he said with a smile.
“Hermione please!” she said with a smile, “Or I shall mistake you for a student or Snape,” Godric smiled and bowed to her.
“Neither are desirable at my age,” he chuckled quietly. Hermione nodded in approval.
“Is Professor Lupin in there?” she asked. Godric nodded,
“Yes, and he has told me to inform you of the password and to invite you in,” Godric said, before kneeling down so that he could whisper in her ear, “Dragons are my area.” Hermione stepped back and looked at Godric in confusion, “That’s the password!” She laughed and nodded.
“Oh right, sorry,” she apologised, “Dragons are my area!” Godric laughed and swung open to let her in.
Lupin’s room was lit with candles, and he had left a rose on the small table in the centre of the sitting room. Hermione approached it and smiled, lifting the rose into her hands. As she did, Lupin appeared in the doorway that led to the bedroom. He smiled at her and she approached him, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him tenderly. Her ran his hands through her hair and drew away, resting his forehead against hers.
“Your first feast as a professor,” he whispered, “You were marvellous,” She smiled.
“I didn’t do anything,” she laughed. Remus shrugged.
“Doesn’t matter, you’re always marvellous,” he said, “And you were perfectly confident around Snivellous.” Remus practically spat the last word.
“I don’t like it when you sneer,” she whispered to him tenderly, “You remind me too much of him.” Remus nodded and kissed her lips with more passion and demanding than before. She smiled but drew away.
“He asked me to study with him,” she said softly, curious to see how Lupin would react, “I was tempted to, he could teach me so much.” She felt Lupin’s arms tense around her waist. She tried to kiss him but he pulled away.
“He did what?” he asked curtly.
“He wanted me to be his apprentice,” Hermione said slowly, drawing away from him, “That doesn’t bother you does it?” She eyed him unsurely. Lupin stepped away from her and began to chew his bottom lip, clearly debating his reply.
“You said no?” he asked.
“Why does that matter?” she asked softly.
“You won’t be around him will you?” he asked again, apparently disregarding her comment.
“And if I were?” she whispered.
“Stop answering one of my questions with another question!” he yelled suddenly. The shock made Hermione step backwards and trip. She looked up at him from the floor.
“Lupin, you’re scaring me,” she said slowly, “Why does it bother you?”
“Are you totally naïve?!” he yelled at her angrily, “The prospect of you working with the love of your life bothers me!”
“Don’t you trust me?” she asked, “I told you that I don’t love him anymore.” Remus’s eyes narrowed, and Hermione saw an anger in him that made her nervous.
“You used to wear his ring,” he hissed, “You never explained why.” He took a step forward and knelt down, his face close to hers. Hermione looked at him angrily, her cold glare meeting his.
“I told you before, because part of me wanted him to come back,” she replied confidently.
“You will not become his apprentice,” Remus replied callously, “You are my lover, not his!” Hermione narrowed her eyes and slapped him.
“I will not become his apprentice because I dislike him, not because you have banned me,” she replied angrily, “I will not avoid him because you have told me to but because he irritates me, and I shall not have you dictating my life.” Remus paused for a second before slapping her with the back of his hand. Hermione barely realised what had happened as she felt her head collide with the stone. When she looked up at him from the floor Remus was holding his hand, a look of shock on his face.
“Hermione, I’m so sorry,” He suddenly began to plead, “It was the beast inside, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He cried as he tried to help her up. She could feel blood dribbling down the left side of her head and matting her hair, but refused to let him heal it.
“Stay the hell away from me,” she replied coldly, before storming out of the room.
