"Sit down." hissed Snape.
Hermione took her normal seat and put her bag on the desk, wishing it could shield her from Snape.
"So, Miss Granger." he sneered, standing up and looking at her. "You decided to come to this detention did you?"
He walked around his desk and stopped in front of her.
"What's the matter?" he hissed, his voice barely above a whisper, "Is your little pet starting to bore you?"
Hermione frowned and stared at her bag.
Her head was filled with retorts, but she bit her lip and remained silent. She didn't want to anger Snape further.
Snape frowned; annoyed that she wasn't rising to his bait.
He leaned down, placing his hands on the desk in front of her.
"You do know what he is, don't you Miss Granger?" he hissed.
Hermione bit down harder on her lip, refusing to respond.
"Answer me, damn you!" shouted Snape, pushing her bag off the desk, which caused it to burst open.
Hermione jumped and moved backwards, glancing up at him.
He was glaring at her, his face contorted with fury.
Hermione shivered and stared down at the desk. Snape could be really scary when he wanted to be. She knew he was on their side, but...
Suddenly he grabbed her chin and thrust it up, forcing her to look at him.
"Ow!" she gasped.
"When I say answer me, you will answer me." he said in a soft, dangerous voice.
Hermione pulled back away from him, standing as she did so.
"It doesn't matter whether I say anything or not," she said, throwing all caution to the wind, "You won't listen to a word I say. You'll just assume everything's Lucius' fault, and that your world is ruined because of him. Just because you're too damned petty to get over yourself!"
Snape's mouth opened and he stared at her shocked.
"How... how DARE you?" he shouted.
"Well why shouldn't I?" she shouted back, kneeling and putting her books back into the broken bag.
"You've been nothing but horrible to me since Lucius arrived. It's not MY fault you're a cold, bitter, twisted git who needs to blame your life on someone else!"
She stood up again, glaring at him.
"Just because you can't have happiness, don't try and deny it someone else!"
With that she threw her bag over her shoulder and walked slowly and purposefully from the classroom.
Snape watched her go, his mouth open in surprise
As soon as she'd closed the door behind her, Hermione set off at a run for Gryffindor Tower.
'Oh god, I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead!' was the thought running through her mind.
