Chapter Seven

Remus found Hermione packing in a frenzy. It was clear something had scared her, but what? He went over to her and was about to pull her to a stop when she whipped around and had her wand pressed to his throat.

“You’re quick,” he murmured. “That’s good.”

“Remus?” she whispered right before throwing herself into his arms. “Merlin! The afternoon I’ve been having!” She pulled back from him. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to check on you,” he told her. “Why are you packing?”

“First Neville Longbottom popped in here,” she muttered, going back to her packing. “He was here long enough to eat a meal, but vanished. Before I knew it the Carrows were walking through the doorway!”

“What? Are you okay?”

She stopped a moment, looking to him. “I’m fine. It just unnerved me, but I need to move now though. Staying here now that the Carrows know about this place…”

“You can’t leave,” he told her. “It’s too dangerous out there!”

“It was dangerous before,” she muttered, tying up her rucksack. “I can’t stay here hiding…”

He spun her around to face him, growling, “You will do as you are told.”

She blinked at him in shock. Hermione had never seen Remus act like this. Even when he was angry, he tended to hold it in. How he was at the moment was more like…. She moved closer to him, startling him when she inhaled his scent at his neck.

“Hello…Rommie.” She pulled back slightly, looking back up into his hard eyes. “I should have known that you were disguised as that man. You nearly have the same eye color.”

“You aren’t leaving?”

“I never said that,” she murmured. “I’m still going. I’ll be more productive out…” He pulled her away from the bag, walking her over to the bed tossing her down onto it. “Remus!”

“Don’t you ‘Remus’ me,” he growled, whipping out his wand and tying her to the bed.

Before she could so much as protest, his body was covering hers. Pinning her down, his arms went to either side of her head effectively making her look straight up into his eyes.

“You will stay here,” he muttered. “Do you understand?”

Instead of giving an answer, she captured his mouth with her own. The heat between the two could have scorched. Remus took over the kiss, delving and tasting for what he had been starving for. This girl, no, this woman was his and he needed her above all else. But before he knew what was happening she rolled him over to his back, magically bound him to the bed, and backed away from him.

“You know…under different circumstances…I would have been more inclined to…partake in…everything you…were willing…to give me,” Hermione panted, absently licking her lips as Remus was growling. “I will not be ordered about like a child!” His eyes narrowed dangerously. “When you’ve calmed down enough, I’m more than positive you’ll come after me.”

“I’ll hunt you down,” he snarled.

“Yes, as the big, bad alpha you are I can’t see you doing anything but,” she replied, picking up her rucksack and going over to him. Leaning down she kissed his mouth tenderly, pulling back just as he tried to nip at her lips. “Bad boy. I’ll see you later.” With that she pulled out her hairclip that she had changed into a port key earlier.

“Don’t go!” he exclaimed as she stepped back from him.

“I need to do this,” she told him. “I can’t stay here and continue to be a part of this hunt. What good is a hound never allowed to go after its prey?” She activated the port key and blew Remus a kiss as she vanished.

Hermione arrived at the Forrest of Dean and oddly enough found Harry and Ron arguing over what looked to be the Sword of Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin’s locket.

“You do realize that if you yelled any louder the Death Eaters might find us that way alone?” Hermione asked during a break in their feud.

They spun towards her, wands at the ready before they realized just who it was. “Hermione!” they cheered and rushed over to her.

She was hit with two cold, wet bodies and taken into a bear hug by the two.

“Where have you been?” Harry asked as they pulled back.

“Oddly enough I was at Hogwarts,” she told them. She pursed her lips, looking to them sadly. “It’s not good over there.”

“I-I heard that the Carrows are at the school,” Ron whispered.

Hermione nodded. “That they are. They’re having students perform Unforgivables on each other during detention.”

“Merlin,” Harry whispered, looking as if more of the world had been dropped onto his shoulders.

“Stop it,” Hermione told him. “It isn’t your fault.” Harry said nothing, but nodded just the same. “So what was this row about, boys?”

“We were debating on destroying the cup now or later…”

“Now,” she said. “We have to be quick.” She saw how Ron’s face colored and knew that it had been his idea to wait. “Expecting Ginny are we?” Ron’s face was now a blistering red. “Right.” She looked to Harry. “Destroy it now. No lollygagging. It gains us nothing. But first things first.” She pointed her wand at them and did simple drying and warming charms. “Honestly, there are times you two must forget we can do these things!”

Harry laughed, knowing it was the truth. “Okay, both of you stand back. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Hermione honestly didn’t know what was going to occur. Half of her expected some sort of explosion and wanted to duck for cover. But what happened was nothing of the sort. A white blinding light went out as soon as the sword went through the cup, followed by what only could be called a scream.

They looked at the locket positive the horcrux was dead. Collectively they let out a long sigh.

“So where are you two camped?” she asked them, breaking the silence. They looked to each other, saying nothing. “What? You mean to say you don’t have a campsite? How about sleeping bags?” Both of her friends were coloring now. “Merlin, you two never think practically.” She pulled out a tent and three sleeping bags unshrinking them. “It’s a good thing I’m here.”

Harry and Ron laughed as they got to work setting up the tent. It was only then that Ron went over to Hermione sheepishly and had begun to ask, “Uh, Hermione…”

“Yes, I brought food, Ronald,” she answered even before he had finished making the inquiry.

Smiling he walked back over to Harry to give him the great news.
