Chapter Six
"Hermione? You have a minute?" Ginny asked, standing next to the chair the older girl was sitting in.
Hermione closed the book she was reading and glanced up at the red-head. "Sure," she answered.
Ginny knelt down so she was closer to the other girl. "I wanted to ask you something. I know I\'m not the only one who\'s noticed your disappearances..."
"Ginny, I..."
"You\'ve already talked to Harry and said you couldn\'t say. I know that," the red-head interrupted. "We\'re just concerned, is all. I\'ve noticed you\'ve been spending a lot of time around Malfoy. He\'s bad news, Hermione."
The Muggle-born snorted. "You needn\'t worry about me around Malfoy. I can handle myself with him."
"Can you? You\'re not acting like yourself," Ginny argued. "And I\'ve seen you with him. You\'ll sit in the library and he\'ll just come up to you and sit next to you like you\'re old friends. You can\'t have forgotten all the horrible things he\'s done and said to you. He\'s a charmer. And, I\'ll even admit he\'s handsome. But, that\'s no reason..."
"Just stop, Ginny," Hermione snapped. "I\'ve told you. There\'s no need to worry. I know what Malfoy is. I\'ve had enough unpleasant dealings with him to warrant caution. I\'m not about to throw myself into the snake pit. But that doesn\'t mean that I should be rude to him. I know how to be civil, and apparently he does too. Things have changed since Voldemort\'s death. People have changed."
"People like Malfoy don\'t change," the younger girl warned.
The brunette started to say something, but stopped. There was no need to continue the argument. In that short span of time, she realized that her friends would probably never accept her decision to join Draco\'s band. So, she revised her comment.
"Malfoy and I are... working on something," she told her friend. "A project of sorts."
"What type of project?" Ginny questioned, suspicious.
Hermione shook her head. "A secret project. Just... please. Malfoy and I have made a pact to be nice to one another. We\'re... tolerating one another for the duration of our project. It\'s strenuous and frustrating at times, but we are doing it. The finished product is just to amazing to pass up."
"Is it something for school?" the red-head asked.
Hermione thought on that for a moment when an idea popped into her mind. She smiled. "Yes. It\'s for school," she easily replied. "In fact... Once the project is complete, everyone at school will be able to see it."
Ginny still looked skeptical, but sighed, "Alright. I\'ll wait. But, know that if you need help with anything, or if Malfoy decides to become a prat again, you can count on Harry and me to be there for you."
Hermione\'s smile brightened even more. "Thank you, Ginny."

"I have an idea!" Hermione announced as she entered their practice room.
The other band members looked up at her entrance. Susan asked, "What is it?"
The Gryffindor was excited, practically jumping. "What if we gave a concert for the school?"
The other three members looked surprised. Draco raised an eyebrow. "I thought you were only doing this for a month?" he questioned.
"Screw the month, Draco," she shrugged off. "We could talk to McGonagall. I\'m sure she wouldn\'t mind it if we did everything ourselves. Susan and I could work on putting together our outfits and our looks. You and Anthony could work on the stage and lights. We could have it in the Great Hall. It\'ll be incredible. It\'ll be our breakout performance. I could write to the Daily Prophet and get a news crew here and maybe even the radio. Witch Weekly would love to take part in it. And then..."
"Whoa, whoa, Granger! Slow down!" Draco interrupted, putting his hands up to calm her down. "Are you serious about this? A concert here at Hogwarts?"
She nodded excitedly. "It will be great, Draco. We could really make something of ourselves. We could get a real place, a studio, instead of this small little room. We could continue this after Hogwarts and go on tour."
"You had no interest in bringing us out into the open last week," he said, giving her a hard look. "What changed your mind?"
"I\'m over my PMS?" she answered. She laughed at his incredulous look. "Seriously, I was talking to Ginny and the thought popped into my head. I realized how important this band really is. We could really change things around here. Look at us. The four Houses working together just as our founders would have wanted us to. Nevermind that we are different, that we come from different backgrounds. We are united in song and in our desire to see the world become a better place."
Susan nodded in agreement. "I think we should do it. And be as different as possible," she added. "I\'m already thinking costumes. We should totally go for the Houses look, but maybe not our robes. Something different. Something that screams..."
"Differences," Hermione agreed eagerly. "We could dress head to toe in our House colours and symbols."
Susan looked like a bobble-head doll with the way she was nodding. "And our hair styles... well, our hair styles are already different, so we really needn\'t change a thing. Except, Anthony, maybe you could spike your hair."
The boys glanced at each other. Draco turned back to Hermione. "Are you serious about this?" he asked one last time.
She nodded in confirmation. "I am."
"Then, we really need to work on our songs. We need a full list of songs to do. If we work hard, we could pull off a concert by the end of the school year," he told her.
"Any particular date?" she asked.
He thought about it for a moment before answering, "How about in June? Right after finals?"
She smiled. "Agreed."

"I am unwritten," Hermione mumbled while humming. She couldn\'t figure out what she wanted to add to the song, but she liked the beat she had in her mind.
A tap on her shoulder caused her to turn slightly and she smiled at Draco. "What are you singing?" he asked.
She shrugged. "Just a tune I\'ve been humming. Can\'t really think of what to put to it, though," she replied.
He nodded as he fell into step beside her. "You know, I\'ve been thinking," he told her, "that you and I should do a couple songs together. I really want to sing and, well, I\'ve only the one song."
She nodded. "I think it would be nice. I do enjoy your song. What should we sing?"
It was his turn to shrug. "We could work on something together. What are you doing this weekend?"
She laughed. "Going to Hogsmeade, like every other person in our year," she responded.
He smiled. "Would you mind going with me?" he asked. At her look of surprise, he quickly added, "For business purposes of course. We could go to the Three Broomsticks and work out a song or two. Have you spoken to McGonagall yet?"
"Yes, I have," she answered. "She was a bit surprised, but she agreed to allow it as long as it doesn\'t interfere with our school work or anything."
He nodded and glanced at her. "So, will you?"
"Will I what?" she inquired.
"Go to Hogsmeade with me?" he repeated with a smile.
She bumped her shoulder against his teasingly. "Sure. I\'ll go with you."
They walked the rest of the way to Ancient Runes with smiles on their faces and laughter in their eyes.
Author\'s Note: No actual songs this chapter, but hey, we do see some Dramione action. I realize I\'m moving this story a bit fast, but it comes to me in little spurts and I really want to get it all out before I lose it.
Just so you all know, I did finish writing In-Laws in my notebook. I\'m just having a hard time getting it from book to computer. I promise I will not abandon that story, though it is taking me longer than I had thought to post it all up. I won\'t make any promises on when there will be a new chapter, as I am a major procrastinator, as you all know. But, I will NOT abandon that story.
For the time being, I hope all of you are enjoying this story. It probably won\'t be as long as some of the other stories I\'ve written, but it will be finished.
