Chapter 7
~Chapter 7~
Things had been going smooth for the past month in the Krum household. Every day Hermione came home from work and had a nice hot meal prepared for Viktor by 8 o’clock. There was no such thing as leftovers.
She decided to combine her and Viktor’s bank account at Gringott’s. This gave Viktor open access to her money which he needed since he was currently suspended from the team and needed to buy things for himself. The fact that he wasn’t working made Viktor feel like less of a man so Hermione figured that if he used her money to provide for the house then he would be in a better mood.
Hermione allowed Mrs. Kane to continue to bring Aleksander home from school every day. The woman even had dinner with them a few times. Even though Hermione did not like the idea of that woman constantly being around her husband, she was grateful for the woman’s friendship with Viktor. He always seemed happier after having spent a pleasant afternoon with the woman.
Tonight was no exception, Mrs. Kane arrived through the floo and immediately greeted Viktor, who was currently sprawled across the couch in the living room. Aleks walked through the kitchen.
“Hi honey, how was school?”
“Great, Daddy came to see me at school today!”
“He did? What did you two do?”
“He only stopped by to say hello but he had flowers in his hand Mommy. They were really pretty. They were red. I think they were for Mrs. Kane.”
That statement made Hermione slam the oven door. Viktor never came to visit her at work, let alone bring her flowers. The nerve of that bastard after all that she had done for him. He brought that woman flowers to work! She was going to get to the end of this!
“Aleks why don’t you go tell your dad and Mrs. Kane that dinner is ready and go wash your hands?”
Aleks smiled up at his mom, and Hermione couldn’t help but to place a kiss on the child’s forehead. “Ok mommy.” He ran out the room to do as he was told.
Hermione quickly wiped her hands on her apron and went to her private stores. Her brilliant mind and access to rare ingredients provided by her Ministry Job allowed her to have a potions cabinet that rivaled Snape. She went into the locked room and found what she was looking for.
She held the vial up to the light so that she could see the red liquid inside the bottle. This was one of her creations. It was the strongest truth potion ever invented. Hermione created it during the Death Eater trials. They needed a potion strong enough that even Voldemort himself could not resist. Hermione spent countless weeks creating the potion until finally she emerged with it. She held the only known vials on the planet.
Normally, Hermione would condone the use of such a potion for a frivolous thing, but she was beside herself with curiosity. Hermione locked up her storage room and walked back into the kitchen. She emptied the vial into the bottle of wine that she planned to serve with the steak for dinner. It was going to be an interesting night.
After shopping all day, Draco wanted nothing more than to fall asleep on his feet. He pouired himself a glass of firewhiskey and took a seat on the couch in his office. He thought about going into the office tomorrow to take care of a few things. He also needed to see about getting Cassy enrolled in a private school.
Hermione absolutely refused to send Cassandra to the private school that all Malfoy children had attended. It was a tradition that Draco wanted to uphold with Cassy, but Hermione insisted on sending her to any old wizarding school. Now that Hermione had no say in Cassy’s well being, Cassy was going to the same school as her father, just like her brother did now.
A soft tap at his office door interrupted his thoughts. There was only one person who knocked so softly on his door, and that was Cassy. “The door is open sweetheart,” he said as he put his glass down. He didn’t like for the children to see him drinking any form of alcohol besides the occasional glass of wine at dinner.
Cassandra came in the door in her nightgown holding on to her little brother’s hand, who was wearing his favorite pajamas. Draco smirked at the black silk pajamas that were embroidered with red scorpions. Red gave them to him for Christmas last year and since then, Scorpius rarely slept in anything else.
Both of them crawled up on the sofa on both sides of him. “Aren’t you two sleepy? I know I am,” Draco said as he ran his hands through Cassandra’s blonde hair. “Why aren’t you two in bed?”
“I saw Cassy crying in the bathroom Daddy,” Scorpius said.
Cassy immediately reached over and hit him on the head.
“Cassandra, don’t hit your brother. Why were you crying,” Draco said as he pulled her hair back so that he could look at her.
“Daddy, what’s wrong with Mommy?”
“Sweetheart, I honestly don’t know. Your mommy is just going through some things right now, and I don’t know how to help her. Your Aunt Ginny and Uncle Blaise don’t know how to help her either.”
“Does she not love me anymore Daddy? She doesn’t take me to the library anymore. She doesn’t play with me or nothing. Did I do something wrong?”
Draco opened his mouth to speak, but Scorpius beat him to the punch. “Your mommy does love you Cassy. Grown ups get sad sometimes and they don’t know what to do. So they start acting weird and that’s what your mommy is doing. That’s what Auntie Ginny and Uncle Blaise are for. When Daddy and Mommy don’t pay enough attention, then we call them. They love us and make us feel better when mommy and daddy don’t. Your mommy still loves you. My mommy does the same thing, and I think she still loves me, but I like Auntie Ginny better than I like my mommy. You’re the best sister ever and you’re a Malfoy so that means you can’t do anything wrong!”
Draco looked down at his son and said, “You know you’re one smart little boy you know that?”
Scorpius smirked and nodded as he looked up at his daddy. “Duh daddy!”
“Your brother is right you know that Cassy? You did nothing wrong. Your mommy is just dealing with some stuff so instead of loving you like she normally would, she is pushing you away so you won’t get hurt. Your mommy still loves you sweetheart. She loves you so much. That’s why she decided to let you come live with me. She knew that you would like it here better than at home with Viktor and Aleks. Never doubt that your mother loves you though okay?”
2“I know,” Cassy said as she looked down at her pajamas.
“Don’t look down when I talk to you or when any other person talks to you. Keep your head up. You’re a Malfoy. You’re strong, smart and beautiful,” Draco said as he lifted her head with his fingers. “Don’t ever doubt how much I love you. You are my daughter, my sweet loving and beautiful daughter. You are the only girl in my life, you know that? You should feel special.”
“Daddy, what about mommy, isn’t she a woman in your life,” Scorpius asked with a curious gaze.
Damn, Draco would have to choose his words carefully from now on because his children were too damn smart for him. “Son, things between your mother and I aren’t working as well as I’d like them too so your mommy is not going to be living here anymore. We are not together anymore.”
“Is it because you love Miss Mia more than you love her,” he asked.
“Scorpius, where did you get that idea from?”
“You let Miss Mia yell at you and call me names. You don’t let anybody do that daddy, not even mommy. When she would me names you would yell back at her. But Miss Mia called me a name and you didn’t get mad. Plus she interrupted dinner and nobody interrupts dinner.”
“Well son, I do love Miss Mia a lot but not as much as I love you and your sister.”
“If you love Miss Mia so much Daddy why did you marry mommy instead of her?”
“Well when your grandma was alive she didn’t like Miss Mia at all. She didn’t want me to marry her.”
~FLASHBACK~
“Draco Lucian Malfoy, how dare you get engaged to that woman, and dishonor your family name?!”
Hermione knew that this sort of reaction was to be expected, and she thought that she had mentally prepared herself for such a reaction. Now that she was here, she realized that she complete overestimated herself.
