Chapter 7
Love of a Phoenix
Chapter 7
Hermione awoke in the arms of Severus. She looked up to find Severus looking down at her and smiling.
“Morning.” He said.
“Good morning indeed. What time is it?” She asked.
“A little after five. We should probably get you back to your room.” He answered.
Hermione nodded sadly. She got up and they made their way into the bathroom. They climbed under the jets of water and took their time washing each other. Fifteen minutes later, Hermione was dressed and standing at his classroom door. Severus wore only a bathrobe. He leaned down and kissed her gently.
“I’ll see you tonight. We have a few potions we need to brew.” Severus said.
“Tonight it is.” Hermione smiled.
She turned and made her way back to her room. Severus closed his door and re-entered his study. He hadn’t told her, but during their many rounds of lovemaking that night, he had felt his entire soul being wrapped in warmth. As if everything wrong he had done for Voldemort had been washed away. He felt free for the first time in years.
“I love you Hermione Granger.” He whispered as he returned to his bedroom.

“Hey Mione. Where were you last night? We stopped by your room after dinner and you weren’t there.” Ron asked.
“I was meeting with Professor Snape. I am his assistant Ron.” Hermione answered.
“How can you stand being around that greasy git?” Ron grumbled.
“He’s not that bad once you get to know him.” Hermione sighed.
Harry and Ron just shook their heads. Both were dressed and ready for their Quidditch practice. Hermione began eating. She knew she had a long day ahead of her. She only hoped that Professor Sinstra could help her. Suddenly, she felt someone staring intently at her. She looked up and her eyes locked with Draco Malfoy’s.
‘You’re dead mudblood.’ He mouthed.
Before Hermione even knew what was going on, a ball of fire ignited on the Slytherin table. The Slytherins began screaming and jumping from the table. Hermione froze. Her eyes flew toward the staff table and locked with Aurora’s.
“Bloody hell! What happened?” Ron gaped.
Hermione jumped to her feet and quickly made her way out of the Great Hall without drawing suspicion to herself. Once in the hall, she broke into a run. She ran straight to Aurora’s classroom. She slammed the door closed behind her and collapsed into a nearby desk, burying her face in her hands.
“What have I done?” She whispered.
“Hermione?” Aurora asked as she entered the room from her private quarters.
“Oh Professor! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to do it!” Hermione cried.
“I know. It’s going to be all right. No one but myself, Albus, and Minerva know what really happened. First off, what triggered this?” Aurora said soothingly.
“Well, I felt someone staring at me. When I looked around, my eyes locked with Malfoys. He then mouthed You’re dead mudblood. Then I just lost it. I didn’t even know what was happening until the fireball appeared.” Hermione explained.
“I see. Well, we can work with that. Why do you react so violently toward Mr. Malfoy?” Aurora asked.
“I know in my gut he was one of the Death Eaters who killed my parents. I can also tell by the way he looks at me. As if he wished I had been there too.” Hermione answered.
“Okay. Now, we need to figure out which technique will work best with you. Let’s begin.” Aurora replied.

For the remainder of the day, Hermione worked with Aurora. As she sat at dinner, she already felt much calmer. She only prayed that she could remain calm when she was face to face with the man who ordered her parent’s death. As she began on her dessert, Ron broke into her thoughts.
“Mione, will you be able to help me with my homework tonight?” Ron asked.
“No, I will be brewing potions tonight with Professor Snape. Besides, you need to start doing your own work, instead of having me do it for you.” Hermione answered.
Suddenly, Ron slammed his fork onto the table and jumped to his feet.
“Why are you being such a bitch to me!” Ron yelled.
The hall fell silent. Hermione and Harry stared in shock at Ron. Hermione jumped to her feet and stared right into Ron’s piercing blue eyes.
“I’m not Ron. I’m just sick of you not using your own brain and constantly using mine! I help Harry, but he’s actually using his brain and does his own work! You don’t! You’re more concerned about winning the next Quidditch match or which girl to score with!” Hermione yelled back.
SLAP!! Everyone in the hall could just stare. Ronald Weasley had just slapped Hermione Granger. It was Harry that came out of his stupor first.
“What the bloody hell is your problem!” Harry screamed as he rushed to Hermione’s side and helped her up.
“MR. WEASLEY! MY OFFICE NOW!” Albus roared.
Ron turned and ran from the Great Hall. Harry and Ginny helped Hermione sit back down. Minerva came rushing up. There was a large red mark on the side of Hermione’s face.
“Miss Granger, come with me. Mr. Potter, Miss Weasley, continue your dinner. I will take care of Miss Granger.” Minerva instructed.
The two nodded as Hermione stood and followed Minerva. The two made their way silently to see Madame Pomfery. Poppy was shocked when Hermione told her what had happened.
“What was he thinking.” Poppy mumbled.
“Hermione, I know you’re suppose to be helping Severus tonight, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea.” Minerva said kindly.
“Professor, I’m fine. Stunned, but I’m fine. Besides, I can’t let this derail my goal. I want to be a Potions Mistress, and working with Professor Snape right now will help me once I graduate.” Hermione said firmly.
Minerva smiled and nodded. Poppy put a salve on the mark and it vanished immediately. Hermione bid the two witches a good evening and made her way toward Severus’s classroom. She knew he was going to be furious. She knocked and entered the classroom.
Severus turned to face her. Before he could even speak, Hermione let out a shrill scream and flames erupted and surrounded her body. Severus watched as the woman he loved, screamed in pain and the flames starting to spin faster and faster around her.
“SEVERUS!”
“Hang on!” Severus cried.
Without thinking he ran at her, never noticing the flames encircling his body as well.
