Anticipation

A/N : Sorry it has been so long since I last wrote anything. To those of you who have been waiting patiently thank you so much. I just found out I am pregnant again, so everything has been a bit hectic. Hopefully I can catch up on all my stories here soon.

For once in his life, Draco was a right mess. The gala was that night, just a few mere hours away and he was more nervous than he had been when he'd first gotten Alissa from the orphanage. He stood pacing the length of his master bedroom, his eyes darting from the window to the closet before him, full of suits and dress attire. He'd sent the note to Ginny with the invitation, but he hadn't heard back from her.He wasn't even sure that she had read it really, and who could blame her. He desserted her in the time that she needed him the most. He wouldn't want to see himself from her point of view either.Sighing heavily, he took a deep breath and began scanning the items in his wardrobe for the perfect outfit. He wanted to look good, but not too done up, since it was just a get together with family, friends, and coworkers. He settled on some black slacks, a dark green dress shirt and a black blazer to match the pants, with silver cuff links. Once he had done up the final button and smoothed out his trousers, he looked himself over in the mirror and was satisfied with his appearance.

Just as he was getting ready to head down the hall to check on Alissa, a loud tapping on the window caught his attention. Draven was back and in her talons was a small bit of parchment rolled and tied with a dark green ribbon. Realizing he was holding his breath, Draco abruptly took a deep gulp of air and hurried to the window to let the bird in. Hooting and fluttering her wings softly, the pitch bird made it to a dresser and perched, dropping the paper to the hard oak top. Draco, finger's trembling slightly, picked up the roll of parchment and with some difficulty unrolled it and began to read the soft looping words written in red.

Dear Draco,

To say that I was surprised to hear from you would be the largest understatement of the year.
That said, I would love to attend your welcome home gala. I have many questions for you.
It has been a very long time since you spoke those words, but I remember them like it was yesterday.
We can talk about it more when I arrive, as I am sure we have much to discuss.
Please tell Alissa that I will be attending and look forward to seeing her.
I look forward to seeing you too, Draco.

Enchantedly Yours,

Gin

Draco read the note several times to make sure he hadn't missed anything and slowly a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Rolling the note back up, he tucked it into his dresser and gave his bird an affectionate pat on the head. He was happier that he thought he would be and the thought of seeing ginny again made his mouth go dry and his throat get tight. Trying to get the sensation to go away, he unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, and headed out of the room to check on his daughter and tell her the news. Reaching her doorway, he knocked lightly and waited for her to answer.

"Come in," came the bubbly reply from behind the heavy door.

Draco turned the knob and pushed the door open, to find his daughter seated on the edge of her bed, dressed in the dress he'd bought her the day before. He blonde hair was in curls around her cheeks with part of it pulled up into a bun atop her head and she looked simply radiant.

"Hey dad, did you need something? Are the guests here already?"

"Not yet, Ali, but they will be soon. I came to tell you that I just got word from your mother. She said she will be attending and looks forward to seeing you tonight."

Alissa's eyes widened at the news and she felt tears welling up, but they were from happiness. Jumping up from the bed, she ran and threw her arms around her father's neck and hugged him tightly. "Really?"

Draco smiled widely at his daughter and nodded his head. "Yes, really, Alissa. She should be here in just a couple of hours."

With that Alissa gave out a squeal much like one he had become accustomed to in his late school years and kissed him on the cheek. Kissing her on the forhead he smiled once more at his daughter, before excusing himself to go check on the preparations. He hid his excitement well, but anyone with eyes could notice the extra bounce in his step as he moved gracefully down the main staircase and toward the kitchens.
