The End of the Beginning
It was a cool night, but neither of the two youths seemed bothered about the chilling wind as they watched their business associates arrive with a suitcase and a guard. Harry stepped forward with Amy both heart’s pumping fast, you never knew how one of these meetings ended, it could end well with everyone leaving with all body parts in tact or it could get ugly, very ugly.
"Is that the rest of my money Jake?" Harry asked calmly, he was not on friendly terms with this man but then again neither were they enemies, such as the life of a business man.
"Good evening Lloyd, Taylor," he nodded to the silent girl who nodded back sharply. "Yes it is, £500 for each of the stones you have and an extra £20,000 for your...labour on...retrieving them," his lips almost curled into a smirk before an invisible force wiped his face devoid of emotion.
"Good," Harry chucked the stones he had brought out from his pocket, at the bulky guard and took the suit case opening it to check the money was indeed that, money. And it was, luckily.
"I will call you when we find more work-"
"-That won't be needed, me and Taylor are going away for a while, we will be unreachable. Call it a holiday if you will..." Harry shook his head with a slight shake, he could feel Amy's disbelief at his words, they had certainly not talked about this!
"Very well," Jake's voice was tight and strained, Harry knew they were his best sellers but they needed a time out, especially Amy. "Will you call me when your back?"
"Yes, good evening," The separated, both walking to their own sides of the park, the grass was slick and slippery with dew as there walked turned into a small jog.
“Run,” Harry whispered.
"LLOYD!!!!" Came the irate scream from where they had seen their business partner, ex-business partner walking too. "YOU FUCKING LITTLE SHIT!"
Harry and Amy both flat out ran to the wall where they had climbed over in order to get in, scaled it again and fled from the park as quickly as possible, there was no way Jake could catch up with them, he had had an operation on his knee a week ago, but the body guard could.
"You freaking moron!" Amy hissed breathlessly as they skidded down the empty housing estate, mindful of the scavenging cats and foxes that snapped and hissed at them as they ran past. "Why, why in all names that are holy would you do THAT?"
"I saw something," the climbed into a back garden to get out of sight, they couldn't tell whether they were being followed or not. “In his head, I don’t know what, but he was going to use them for something bad, I couldn’t give them to him!” Harry hissed back at her, and swapped the suitcase into his other hand as he high jumped another wall, straight into a small pond with Amy following him into the fish infested waters.
Lights went on in the house as Amy and Harry both gave a cry of surprise which lasted only seconds before they dragged themselves up and out of the water and continued to leap the fences, soaked in mucky water from hair to toes, Amy in the lead for once.
The silence between them was thick but for the odd gasps of breath or curses as they slipped or tripped on the children’s toys littering there runway, or dogs that snapped at their heels as they ran through about half a mile of gardens.
Finally they reached the end of them and were back on the silent empty streets. They both held their breath waiting to hear some sort of noise that would indicate that they were still being followed, alas there was none and they both slumped down against the brick wall, both gasping for breath and sweating fiercely. Amy then turned to the younger boy.
Pulling her long wet hair out of her eyes, she said conversationally. "So why didn’t you tell me that before" She pulled her hair into one hand and twisted it harshly, wringing the water out of it, before starting on her clothes, which instead Harry dried instantly for her, pushing a bit of his magic into her clothing and doing the same for himself, she looked at him funnily for a moment, he never used his magic for petty things like this before.
"Because I wasn’t sure okay, I wasn’t sure and I wasn’t about to work you up, when you’re already ill, so i checked tonight, I still don’t know how I did it, I looked into his eyes and I saw him riding a dragon, he was controlling it, so much death and power,” he hissed back at her it was a painful memory to think about, she a hand through his hair in a calming action.
She relented, what, after all, could she say to that. He was always trying to protect them in some crazy sort of way. She lent her head on his shoulder and he wrapped an arm around her, they would be alright, they had forgiven each other, they always would, they had each other, they would be fine.
"What the fuck are you!?" Two people stood just outside the ring of light that the lamppost gave out with guns in each hand. “I shot you three times, why didn’t you die?” Jake was there, and in an instant he turned the gun on the shocked guard and shot him twice in the head before turning round the find the pair had gone, he smirked. Oh yes, they would meet again.
